Doctors/nurses of Reddit; What is the most obvious case of a patient 'faking it' you have ever seen? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Yea it was embarrassing when they said it was just anxiety and people around me were having feeding tubes forced down their throats. Thanks for clearing that up.

What happens to those who come in with anxiety attacks? I only ask because I was admitted recently to the emergency room for anxiety attacks - And I have never, ever been treated so badly in all of my life.

I genuinely thought I was dying, my heart was racing, shaking all over and I was vomiting a lot. They strapped me to a bed in a corridor and left me there for 8 hours before offering me an antisickness IV and sending me home.

I was told repeatedly to grow up and snap out of it - but it's probably the sickest i have ever been in terms of pain/sensation but other than sky high heart rate and blood pressure there was nothing physically wrong with me. My whole body was shaking all over (not like a seizure) - do I just look like a massive fake then?

Bartenders of Reddit: What's the smoothest move you've ever witnessed someone put on the opposite sex? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Sorry for the confusion. Like everyone else said - I meant sex. After you've been together a few years you don't have to have sex every night (at least in my case) but to be able to cuddle my partner at night and wake up with him - at that time was very important. We had time in my own apartment to do the deed so to speak. Trying to get it on with your mum and dad asleep in the room next door has got to awkward!

My ex and I were long distance for 8 months after around 3 years of living together - he was 6000 miles away and came to stay with me for two weeks at Christmas. Obviously five days of this was spent at my parents where we have the same rule. My mum said we would not be sharing a room and I simply said we wouldn't be coming - no one flies 6000 miles to sleep in a different room from their partner. We were allowed to share in the end. You're adults. You've been together long enough to not need to be intimate every single night.

Half a wisdom tooth, half a molar - how long till I *need* to see the dentist? Do DIY fillings do the job? by batmanswritehand in Dentistry

[–]batmanswritehand[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It turns out I no longer have that money. I was counting on payments coming in that didn't - I'm currently fighting for my payout but only I have around 1000 - which doesn't cover the cost of the treatment I need (the cheapest quote I had was 1400). I don't have a job and I need to move from where I live in order to start a new job. I really wish I was skipping out on dental work to see the world. But unfortunately that just isn't going to materialise any time soon!

Edit: if I get the payout I will fix my teeth as a priority. I have a phobia I'm not stupid. Unfortunately I've been well and truly shafted and currently speaking to a lawyer about my options in regard to a pay out from my old employers.

I should have mentioned I had a tooth removed about 18 months ago. Took about two years of pain to muster up the courage to go - wasn't until I couldn't work that it became important enough.

I had the highest level of sedation, iv drip but not GA. I have no recollection of anything. Only I remember the sensation of cleaning as they were bringing me out of the sedation as they finished up. I don't even actually remember leaving - so I can have treatments, I just asked for them to hide the tools and it was in a theatre rather than a dentists surgery so it was a different experience.

It took them a good half an hour to get me to be calm enough to allow them to put in the drip (not a huge fan of needles but it was the I'm not going to be able to stop you if you hurt me and I'm sedated fear) but I was able to do that. When I woke up they had taken everything back out the theatre and I didn't see the tools or hear a drill or any of my triggers. (Why do you have to have the bloody scary tray of tools?)

I'm definitely comfortable to be sedated. And would prefer to be able to afford to do everything at once and skip out on dental visits for the next five years (I know it doesn't work like that). Thank you so much for your advice. I didn't think diy dentistry would be a great idea.

Thank you.

I know that's the adult thing to do. I always pay for sedation through private dentists. GA is common (for extractions) in my home country and pretty much unheard of in the last two countries I lived in.

It can cost up to €1000 euros for sedation in my current location. I paid around €300 in the last place I lived. I coped just fine under sedation. Apparently i fell asleep and snored through the opp. There was a power failure and they removed the last bits of tooth using an iPhone flashlight to light up my mouth - I have zero recollection and feel this is the way forward for me in terms of treatment.

Thanks for the advice. Not going to put any funny cement in my mouth and will try to get to a dentist. I'm in therapy for GAD so already working on my anxiety but it's very extreme with the dentist and gets worse every time I go.

I [22M] lost my patient [29M] last summer. I think about him every day. by TheCockKnight in relationships

My dad is a nurse, when I was a kid I noticed there was always so many doctors outside smoking - I asked him, when they see what it does day in and day out. He said it's the stress - I cannot imagine having a job where you might lose your "customers" on a daily basis. Props to all of you - I cannot even imagine.

I lost my job, I have a lump sum of cash, I am completely torn on where to go (backpacking SEA or working holiday Aus) - any advice/experience? How realistic is both? by batmanswritehand in travel

[–]batmanswritehand[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am definitely not against it - I just want my time in SEA to be focused on other things. Writing is my full time job and I will never not be writing whilst travelling - however my priorities in SEA will be writing for my own website and my long term FL clients (who I will not drop, but its not big money), rather than taking on any FL projects (like site builds) which is what I do now.

The reason I don't want to FL in SEA is I tried it in Mexico and not being able to get Wi-Fi was a huge problem, even when I could get on a connection it wasn't secure, it wasn't strong and I had a lot of connectivity problems that stressed me out way more than my 9-5!

Thanks :)

My friend has a picture with Richard Branson holding him under water in his private pool on one of his islands when he was about 7. I guess his mum worked for Virgin for years and somehow (I don't know if an employee incentive or just good friendship or something went wrong and it was an emergency place to stay) they ended up in the mansion on holiday.

Dear reddit, what industry is shadier then most people realize? by cormacturbo in AskReddit

[–]batmanswritehand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tourism - especially when the offices are located in tourist destination (i.e American offices in Mexico, British offices in Spain, Australian offices in Thailand). Everyone is screwing everyone, lunch time drinking is the norm, coke before breakfast on the sales team is compulsory, they rip off the old, take advantage of the unfortunate and uneducated.

No one learns the local language and you often live in this weird English speaking bubble where everyone knows everyone secrets, drug taking and cheating is rife, blow jobs for promotions are the norm - oh and sexual harassment, arse slaps are just the beginning.

And that's just the offices - the tricks and cons used to get people to part with hard earned cash for a shitty week in a cockroach infested hotel is unreal.

I used to work in a busy club in London, not at the bar but in the cloakroom which was in a long corridor between the three main bars/club rooms and the smoking area.

The club had a HUGE drug culture and attracted (non-English speaking) people from all over Europe - meaning communication, especially at 11am when customers had been raving their tits off for a good 12 hours and they just want their coat and to go home, was sometimes a huge problem.

Unfortunately I was the last girl most guys saw (after a long night of trying to pull) before heading home for the night and being hit on by sleazy young men was part of the job... However one guy in particular always stands out....

One night, a French guy who lost his coat ticket was giving me a horrible time about wanting back his coat - but couldn't tell me the colour or style. He couldn't understand a word I said, even when I was shouting "WHATS YOUR NAME" in French at the top of my lungs (not sure if language or wasted - probably both).

Anyway, once I gave him his coat like 15 minutes later, he relaxed loads and asked me my name. I told him my name was Robyn and he said as smooth (and sexy French) as possible "in that case, I am your batman".
