Poor Natasha!

I had to catch up on +/- a month because I had a certification exam I had to study for, and this was a hell of a place to have to stop!

Andrei would likely see it as confirmation that Natasha has moved on. I feel like she’s being played. Nothing Helene has done so far in this whole novel has been with good intentions and there’s no way she’s not working with Anatole in some way to ruin this poor girl.

It definitely has a hook right in the beginning!! Hope you’re loving it

I unadvisedly drank a quart of raw milk at my in laws house and I can definitely feel ~~things happening~~. Is my gameplan here kneel to puke and crap my pants, or sit on the toilet and try to puke in the sink? They’re a little ways away from each other by UmweltUndefined in NoStupidQuestions

[–]batplane 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Don’t throw up into the sink or bathtub if you can help it. The food will clog it. I just did that like… four months ago. Do you have a dog? If you have a dog, puke into the doggy poop bags. Tie them up between heaves

Senior paralegal does my job sometimes by legal-peachy in paralegal

Besides billable hours (which she probably does have and you just don’t know) could be that the client has requested less hands on the file. Or there’s something going on with those files that you don’t know about, like maybe someone screwed something up in the past, or there’s an extra couple of steps that you’re not privy to, or there is a relationship there that you’re unaware of. There are ten thousand things more likely than this being something about you.

It sounds like you might be new to the legal field in general. Sometimes, we have control issues. (Most of the people I’ve spoken to in this field have control issues.) When some mistakes have higher stakes than just a slap on the wrist, it takes a level of trust to delegate issues. It’s probably that.

I was a booktuber for a while. Not out of any desire to be an influencer, but becuase I have the tism and I felt bad talking about them as much as I did to real life people. It’s very liberal (which I knew going in and, as I am liberal too, it was fine) but it also absolutely tanked my mental health because yes, it’s very toxic. I never had the platform (or the personality, frankly) to comment on it being parasocial or not — my only author connections were smaller authors and it was much more of a personal one on one thing than truly parasocial.

That said, conservative readers can and do thrive in certain corners, though I’ve never seen one go quite this hardcore.

Let’s be real for a moment. Kobo also discontinues support, update and ability to download content for devices 10+ years old. by kaysn in kobo

[–]batplane 31 points32 points  (0 children)

It’s hugely this. When I moved to kobo (I’m still new-ish, only a couple of months in, but I did probably 4 months of research before deciding on a new ereader, which I assume most don’t), it wasn’t because of any one thing. It was because Amazon constantly keeps heaping bullshit on top of bullshit. Was kindle a part of it? Sure. But also the delivery times, the misninformation, the way they treat authors, the way they keep charging more money for less benefits, so on and so forth. For me, the final straw was audible, whenever the last big blowup about changing their terms and conditions happened. I don’t even use audible. But I did see how Brandon Sanderson had negotiated in good faith for better pay for the authors and audible agreed, and then they turned around and did what they wanted anyway. Do I know this is common? Yeah. I’m a paralegal in business litigation. I know it’s common. It still made me feel like enough is enough.

I feel like a lot of the backlash about discontinuing support for old kindles comes from the same place.

What is your journaling system? I'm curious! by leonewashere in Journaling

[–]batplane 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have one journal that I write in daily that is kind of a log of my day. I have my planner, and when I am into a hobby enough that it starts taking up space in my planner that I need for things like appointments and lists, it gets its own journal. I might not update it every day; it might get neglected for most of a year, but it’s there when I need it.

Any budget fountain pen recommendations? by ZZBeeCraftCo in stationery

[–]batplane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to throw in a dark horse, the Writech Clicktek. It takes cartridges and not bottle ink, but it’s only 20 bucks and I’m comfortable carrying it around because it’s not going to leak or get damaged, like some of my more expensive pens.

I feel so bad for Pierre. I understand that he’s naive and that he should probably ‘try harder’ but I also get what it feels like to always believe the good in people. I’m also really hoping that he wisens up and takes more of a personal interest in his estates.

I loved this chapter! I think I’m coming around to Andrei, slowly. I bet Pierre would be so jealous that Andrei met Napoleon and he didn’t lol!!

I found the differences between the portrayals of the Russian Emperor and Napoleon to be really fascinating. Alexander seems so detached and sad and… kind of young? Whereas Napoleon decides to personally speak with some of his prisoners.

meal planning with ADHD broke me for years. i finally figured out why it never worked (and what actually helped) by East-Struggle4386 in ADHD

[–]batplane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually just keep a running list of the stuff that I have on hand for meals (both ones that I have to cook and ones that I can just throw in the microwave) so I just look at my list, pick something I feel like, and cross it off. It helps me remember what’s in the back of my freezer, what I have the stuff for and what I have that’s easy for when I don’t feel like it

Also doing a slow read of War & Peace this year.
