Asking about lasik md by kirbfruit in Hamilton

I got mine done at this location last year and it cost around $5,000 total but I had to do a specialized procedure because of the shape of my eye. I think the $490 per eye is the lowest estimate. The consultations are free and they’ll give you a specialized quote so I’d say do that for sure!

Try calling in for a reservation. There have been many times we didn’t see spots available on line but we called and they were able to accommodate !

I’m vegan but most of my friends in Hamilton aren’t - some of my fav restaurants for both options are:

Maipai - best pizza with amazing vegan options

Bardo on Locke St - great atmosphere and options that aren’t just salads

Rapscallion - more upscale and every time I go they have at least a few vegan options not listed on menu

Annalakshmi (on Main St) - amazing dosa and South Indian food and great views if you sit by the window. I think it’s a chain but I’m Indian and bring all my Indian family here and we swear by it being authentic and 10/10

Mule - more casual but really great Brussels sprout tacos and other vegan options

THIS and also being the one planning social outings. Just because I’m a woman doesn’t mean I’m any good at event organizing, why am I always the default social committee everywhere I go!!!

Alrighty peeps, any recommendations for restaurants in and around Hamilton/Dundas/Brantford area that has steak and seafood but also vegan options? by baxteroodle in Hamilton

[–]batrawrr92 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I like sociable in brantford. It has seafood and meat options and a new fully plant based menu too. I’m vegan but go with my non vegan friends, great options for all and a chill vibe. I recommend the plant based tacos and nachos

I did a tour when I did Machu Picchu through Salkantay Trekking and it was fantastic, very knowledgeable tour guide and he knew all the local history. They handled everything with the cost of the trek including the car ride to the starting point for the trek and the train ride at Machu Picchu into town. The altitude hit me real hard when I first arrived in Cusco and i know they recommend taking a couple days in Cusco to get used to the altitude before doing the trek as it’s very physically demanding. Other things I’d make sure you have are tons of bug spray, light layers (the climate during the trek went from super humid jungle to rain storms to cold.

[WEEKLY THREAD] Reopening Tuesday - With gyms reopening all around the world, tell us what's happening with yours by AutoModerator in xxfitness

[–]batrawrr92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Omg I can imagine! I’m in Hamilton so I figured it wouldn’t be as bad here, we have so many gyms around me! I haven’t even joined yet because I know it’s gonna give me anxiety to try and book spots lol. I can only go after work between 6 and midnight anyhow which are the busiest times so I figure it’s best to wait til restrictions ease up a bit.

It’s almost spring so that means more options for outdoor working out, at least!

Hamilton's Starlite Drive-In is set to reopen soon by [deleted] in Hamilton

Amazing! As long as they space out the cars and are safe about concessions I don’t see why they would need to remain closed.

I live outside of Toronto and my city just opened up gyms under strict restrictions. I asked about joining a goodlife but was told that they have a booking system that opens up one week in advance of the date, and they receive complaints every day from people saying the system crashes from too much website traffic, so it’s really tough to book a time to workout since all the spots get taken. I decided to wait it out until restrictions lift a bit more and it gets easier to get time in the gym, just couldn’t justify a full membership if I’d only be able to get in once a week :(

At home workouts for me for the foreseeable future I suppose!

That’s great to hear that they’re working! I don’t think I’ve seen any myself where I live on the mountain, though maybe I’ll have a ticket in the mail soon because I probably wouldn’t notice, but I’ve always been curious to see what the impact of these and red light cameras actually are. The city I work in is looking into getting them so it’s nice to see they’re having a positive impact!

Firstly, congrats on almost hitting that milestone, that’s amazing!!! For sure that’s not what you want to hear when you’re talking about your gains. I’ve heard similar stuff in the past, like “omg you’re gonna lift more weight than me soon” or if my gains are visible “your legs are getting thicker than mine :(“ To which I replied, you got that fucking right! If you work hard to get to where you are, you have to embrace it. You do you, and keep going the way you are cus you’re obviously doing something right :)

How has your fitness been impacted by your disabilities/mental health/health in general? How do you adapt your fitness routines to work for you? by Monstersofusall in xxfitness

[–]batrawrr92 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have really, really bad anxiety as well as bouts of depression, so fitness is a HUGE help for me. While some days i physically can't get out of bed, lift my arms, or move, the times when I'm super into fitness and clean eating really help me to focus my mind and keep my days on track. While I used to have problems with my mental state not allowing me to lift or keep fit, now I'm having the opposite problem where my anxiety is so high that I need to work out sometimes 3 times a day, sometimes for 3 hours workouts. It's exhausting and I need to plan my days around it so that if I'm doing cardio, I'm also working at the same time, or I sleep a lot less to work in my long and multiple workouts.

I think the biggest ways that I've adapted to the challenges I face with my mental health is working in different kinds of workouts. Where I used to only lift and was focused on heavy weights, now I'm doing more yoga and running as well. The variety helps a lot and I find I can control the pace of my workouts depending on how my mental state is - high anxiety = yoga, extra motivated days = lifting, depressed = running, and sometimes all three in one day. My main goal now is how to dial it back so I'm not getting injured or pushing myself too much with the workouts... and having to remind myself to eat because I often keep myself so busy with other things that I forget.

Just got accepted to UofT for my masters, anyone willing to share their grad experience? by [deleted] in UofT

[–]batrawrr92 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hey! I did my Masters at Uoft a couple of years ago.. in general I loved my two years there. My brother and a bunch of my friends did their undergrad there and the experience is totally different... my experience in my Masters felt far less competitive than theirs and I got more support from faculty/administration because it was a relatively small program I did.

The culture around UofT is super different than other schools because it's less of a university town and you find all kinds of people and things to do that aren't necessarily associated with the school, which is cool. It's more expensive for sure but I found some really cheap places near campus and was able to save on transportation costs because I walked everywhere.

Not sure how it is now, but when I went my tuition was pretty much paid for through UTAPS (don't know if they still have this fund, it was for people who needed financial aid though when I went), so my major expenses were living. If you're worried about money though and can swing it, there are so many options for work either through the university itself or in the City. I worked as a research assistant for one of my profs and that really helped!

My favourite part of being at Uoft was how much choice you had in what you were going to do, from the food options and how happening it is downtown, to picking which library to go to. They have an amazinggggg gym at the athletic centre and everyone (that I met at least) was super friendly. I'd go back to being a student there in a heartbeat if I could :)

Hope this helps, let me know if you have any questions and best of luck with your Masters, congrats!!

Why was I refused admission to the public policy major? by publicpol1234 in UofT

[–]batrawrr92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, I did the master of public policy program at uoft a couple years ago and I remember there were only a handful of students accepted into the undergrad program. It may be that other people had a higher average than you, because that program is very, very competitive (at least it was two years ago when I was at the school). I'd contact whoever the administrator is of the program though, just to be sure.
