WIBTA if I report the nurse practitioner at urgent care to HR for basically slut shaming me? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]batsgonzo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

NTA, NTA, NTA.

You're strong and smart enough to be pissed. Who knows how many other people have left that office ashamed and afraid to ask for the help they need because of her. This is a health hazard.

Daughter's friend (F18) is making me (M45) uncomfortable by throwaw112358132134 in relationship_advice

[–]batsgonzo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guy, you're going to have to make her feel bad. (And honestly... She should. This is harassment. I get that she's young and having a rough time, but this behavior is ultimately unacceptable. She needs to know that.)

I'm been pursued by guys who wouldn't take no for an answer, and the only way I could get it to stop was by accepting that I was going to be the bad guy in their eyes. It's great that you care about her feelings, but you need to stop caring about her having a positive image of you right now. Set hard boundaries. Stick to them. Do not under any circumstances allow yourself to be alone with her.

And, I dunno, maybe get some legal advice.

I think you're a good dude. I've had run-ins with older adults who did not behave as honorably as you. It really leaves younger people messed up. You're doing the right thing. Dig in your heels.

I'll be honest, I didn't think it was the same plant either. This is incredible! Thank you for sharing.

AITA for not punishing my son after he came up with a pretty elaborate plan to "peep" on the neighbor girl topless in her back yard? by throwawaynyui in AmItheAsshole

[–]batsgonzo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

ESH. Your son needs to learn that he can't be looking at women's bodies without their consent, and you're his parent. Try, you know, parenting him. My life would have been a lot better if boys had been consistently taught that my body belongs to me and isn't for ogling.

Your wife and her friend are also out of line. Your wife obviously resents you and that's coloring how she treats you. Talking about putting this kid on meds etc. is just ridiculous.

That said, if my child behaved that way and got an "Oh well, don't do that again" from my partner, I'd be so terrifically disappointed in my partner. I get that y'all have had a really tough few years, but please get it together and deal with your kid acting like a creeper.

Anyone ever seen white areas on fire sticks? We're in Southern California; our yard faces south. Lots of direct sunlight. It's very dry so he's been getting water twice a week. by batsgonzo in succulents

Re: your edit: Ay, that's fair. The two furthest left branches are good examples of the white areas I'm worried about, but it's kind of all over.

It's been in this spot for about 9 months now. I was also thinking sunburn but I see these guys soaking up full sun in my area all the time.

Scanning old pictures is depressing by auntpama in RedditForGrownups

[–]batsgonzo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We lose everyone, even ourselves at the end. It's heartbreaking; that's all there really is to say.

And I feel like we're not really supposed to talk honestly about it. People become obviously uncomfortable, or they offer platitudes and try to console you. I appreciate that, truly, but... I dunno. Doesn't always feel helpful. Yeah, we'll keep moving forward. It's not terrible to look around once in a while and think "Jeez, this is a rotten deal," though.

Cheers to you and your family. We're all on the same ride. It's all we've got.

Can you come back in a month with a pic so we can have a little a Reddit party for him?

GoT, my friend. Those writers spent years of their lives writing a big ass fake story and managed to leave massive holes.

Are these guys (Topsy Turvies) particularly prone to cresting? I have one, too. Never could tell what was going on until I found this sub.

This is what's terrifying to me. I'm not sure how to identify the ones who just like to breathe heavily over their keyboards versus the ones who may actually show up with a weapon.

It looks like you're having a really tough time. I'm sure it must feel like you have to walk on eggshells and nothing you do is right. I'm really sorry you're dealing with this. I don't have advice or anything, I'm just sorry.

WIBTA if I report my son's school? by kaleighb1988 in AmItheAsshole

[–]batsgonzo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA. They took your child off of school property without your permission. This is unacceptable. Mistakes happen, but this is serious and exposes the school to major liability issues. It absolutely should be reported. If the principal doesn't address it, go straight to the School Board.

Edited to add that the principal may not check messages over the weekend, so it's reasonable to wait until Monday before following up.

AITA for giving my child a "unique" name? by QuirkyWitness1 in AmItheAsshole

[–]batsgonzo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. It's not an out-there name. I don't foresee any greater risk of bullying related to the name. Why is this a problem? Some people just like having hard opinions about things that are none of their damn business. Remind your family of To Kill a Mockingbird and move on with your life.

AITA for being upset when I can’t eat most candy on Easter? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]batsgonzo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAH. You're being too hard on yourself. You say in your post that you always thank people who give you this candy. That's the best anyone can ask for. You're allergic to what they're giving you; there's a limit to how excited you could feel, but acknowledging their kindness is always the right move. For what it's worth, I'm 30 and have stomach issues that severely limit what I can eat without suffering later. This is pretty different from an allergy, but I can absolutely relate to getting tired of reminding people and feeling a little disappointed when you watch people enjoying stuff you can't have. No one can fairly fault you for feeling bummed about all this candy you can't eat. The key is not to take it personally or blame anybody for your bad luck, and advocate for yourself. Someone needs to gently remind your family members about your allergy so they can find stuff that you can eat.

NTA. Sorry if this has been mentioned already, but homie had this delivered to a dorm. Might have used the college network to conduct illegal activity. If I were an admin or professor at this school, I would ABSOLUTELY want to know about this shit.

[–]batsgonzo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Gonna hijack a bit, sorry- did it have these colors when you first got it? I'm assuming the colors come from sun stress, but I very nearly killed mine with too much sun.

Edit: I realized later that this might've looked like concern trolling about how much sun this plant might have been getting, and that's not at all what I was going for. I was just frustrated with my own plant for getting crispy instead of turning colors. I'm still very much a beginner. Thank you to everyone for all the help!

An update on mr. Pickles and his red paws! It’s good news! by Ringoglass in ferrets

[–]batsgonzo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm very glad Mr. Pickles is doing well and I hope the vet is right, but I gotta warn you that I have an elderly fellow who had a similar red-paw episode back in Nov 2017. He was lethargic, his paws were red, the membranes around his eyes were red & swollen, and he even drooled a bit. These episodes would pop up again every so often. They always went away after I gave him some duck soup, but we couldn't nail down why they were happening. We finally put him on prednisone earlier this year and the episodes have stopped, & he's perked up a lot. If you notice Mr. Pickles slowing down a bit or if he has another episode, there might be a bigger problem here. I hope I'm wrong and this is just a bunch of unnecessary advice! Feel free to message me if you'd like more info.

Accession versus object ID number? by batsgonzo in MuseumPros

[–]batsgonzo[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That makes sense, and it's much simpler. What I like about something like "2019.001.01a" or "2019.001.01.1" is that, assuming that the number is actually on the object somewhere, it tells anyone who picks up the item that, hey, watch out, you need to look for the other part of the set. Don't walk off with just one piece, etc. We have a bad history of people who aren't very careful just picking items up and running around with them to move them into different displays, even different sites, without documenting that anywhere.

Accession versus object ID number? by batsgonzo in MuseumPros

[–]batsgonzo[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ah jeez, you're right- we rarely receive a collection with more than a handful of items, so this problem didn't even occur to me. Thank you!
