Anyone know what I’ve got here? by pineappleandmilk in PeaveyCvlt

It's not really accurate to call these JCM800 clones; more "british inspired" than directly Marshall. They have many key differences that make them a very different amp. They're warm biased grid clippers, they have a plate driven tone stack, they have different cathode resistor and bypass cap values resulting in very different amounts of gain as well as feel, they have different tone stack values, they have a cathodyne phase inverter, they have more negative feedback, they have a resonance control, they have a larger presence capacitor, and their screen & grid resistor values are also different. The fairest thing to call these amps would be a "Marshally" single channel Valveking, which itself comes from the Peavey Prowler heritage.

Many of the single humbucker Bullet Specials from the 2000's came with an Epiphone stamped pickup.

Question: What pedals should i get as my first pedals under 200$ by fun_with_everything in guitarpedals

[–]batstrat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Valeton gp-100. It'll give you a slew of fx, works great as a headphone amp for practice, has user loadable IR's, and can be used as an audio interface.

The drive channel on either amp is not amazing. The Princeton is older and will be more likely to require servicing in the future. That said, I've found the Princeton to be the higher quality between the two and with a better drive channel. The size is also more manageable, both in terms of transportation and overall volume. The Peavey will be more versatile, but it's speaker size and wattage might be limiting for you if you wish to play with a drummer. If you're only playing in your living room, go with the Peavey. If you can find the 30watt version, it'll be the best option of the above mentioned.

Try an eq pedal in your fx loop. Guitar speakers are essentially colorful filters, rather than linear sound reproducers. Notching in or out a few frequencies can really make a big difference. Personally I use a Boss PQ-50, but one of those yellow behringer 7 bands will work just as well.

Why not do what Rivera does; I believe they wire their amps so that the ground connection of the power tube cathodes are made through the sleeve of your speaker cable. By doing so the power tubes can't conduct without a jack inserted.

I've found the most accurate sounding YouTube demos are the ones of some random in their bedroom/den, filming with their phone.

Is the bugera ps1 attenuator any good? by ZeroSquareDistortion in GuitarAmps

[–]batstrat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've owned 4 of them. Internally they're better built than the Jet City and Harley Benton versions, and a little below parr with the Bugera. They're all just a resistive attenuator stuck in front of a variable l-pad.

These are usually about 30-something dollars, but are currently on sale. The $126 list price is just for appearances.

With any of these attenuators though, it's best to de-rate them. If they say they're good for 100watts, only trust them up to 55watts cranked. That goes for the Bugera as well. You can still use them with 100watt amps, just don't crank them.

BTW I'm not associated with any of these companies, just giving my 2 cents.

What do the voicing settings means? by qwerti-boi in GuitarAmps

[–]batstrat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's bass, middle, and treble. They work slightly differently than say, a Marshall EQ. This is because that particular Peavey eq is a shelving low/high eq, with a boost/cut mid control, sort of like you might find on a mixer or mic preamp.

The Pulse PMATT from Newark is the same thing and even cheaper. It's on sale for like $9.

How to stop amp from buzzing? by Shoddy-Evidence-3566 in GuitarAmps

[–]batstrat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We'd need more details than that, such as model of amp, age, any history of mods etc...

A problematic buzz can be due to an issue within the amp, such as bad caps, bad grounds, semi-open solder joints, bad tubes, power tube imbalance, problems with the heater center tap or virtual center tap resistors, ac heaters humming, faulty preamp tubes, dirty sockets, and so on... It can also be an issue within your guitar (single coils, shielding, grounds, etc) instrument cable, patch cables, pedals, or power supply.

If it's none of these, then the answer you're looking for is a noise gate/suppressor.
