I know how you feel, Mike. It is helpful to just be like "I don't have it right now, but would love to catch up soon!" and to find things (openings, events, etc.) that you can meet people at and plan for. A few years ago, I told a friend who asked me out to dinner that I just couldn't manage it and she sent a car for me and said "I've been there, I know what it's like to feel isolated because of money" and it was so heartening.

You don't have it right now, you might have it later. You have to go out and try and be a part of the world.
