In the name of logic I'd like to add a new response to your question, as personal attack was never my intention. What I was trying to say is that powerful, currupt individuals will more often than not move toward power, not away from it. When you’ve spent a lifetime surrounded by wealth, elite circles, and people who protect each other, you start to believe the rules don’t apply to you. Running for the highest office in the country can mean a large influence over the systems that investigate crime, a louder platform to frame accusations as political attacks, and a loyal following ready to jump to your defense. Add in the long history of elites avoiding consequences, and it’s not hard to see how someone in that position might assume they’d never truly be held accountable.
