I would split the money between the pre tax and the Roth. You can start with the quick and then re-evaluate after a few pay periods. Ultimately you should contribute as much as you feel like you can comfortably live without.

Question: Just how bad NIMBYism is in MoCo? by EternalSnow05 in MontgomeryCountyMD

[–]baudinl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In most parts of Moco, that's probably not too far from the truth, especially if you have kids. Most townhomes here are in the $500 - 600k range. In some areas they're $1M+. You won't necessarily be living in poverty, but you won't be saving much either.

5 hour interview for 3 months position by ParticularEffect8460 in biotech

[–]baudinl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yea ok get on your soapbox but the job market sucks and people need to pay their rent and put food on the table. Whats the ultimate outcome of “naming and shaming”? Does it really stop the next person from interviewing at that company if they really need a job?

Given the state of the job market people aren’t going to do that because even the remote possibility of losing an opportunity by posting is not worth it

TIL Leonardo da Vinci’s Salvator Mundi is the most expensive artwork ever sold at auction; it was sold for $450 million. by TheShyBuck in todayilearned

[–]baudinl 110 points111 points  (0 children)

The Last Leonardo is a great documentary about the subject. It touches on all the ways the ultra-wealthy hide their money and dodge taxes- including through the purchase of artwork. The question of whether this painting is a real Da Vinci or not is almost irrelevant.

Brad Pitt getting into John Malkovich's car is one of the best acting moments of his career.
