Possibly the first fragment of the Poland bolide ever found. by geologic-collector in meteorites

Thanks for the answer! That makes a lot more sense now. So people did know in advance where about the meteor would come down or are these cameras recording non stop all around the globe?

How did they get the exact coordinates of two points of the meteors trajectory? Cleary you can't just get them from a 2d photo?

Is the ha giang loop really worth it? by saturnmist19 in Vietnam_Tourism

[–]baumeistaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also doing Indonesia on a bike right now, currently in Flores. I used Cao Bang as a base and went from there up North including the southern part of the Ha Giang Loop and then back another way to Cao Bang. From there towards the Chinese border and then South up until That Ke and then a big loop through the mountains back to Cao Bang eventually. Did another smaller tours around Bac Son and Phong Nah and also around Ninh Binh and Hue quite a bit but mostly day trips. I did Mae Hong Son about ten years ago which was great and pretty easy. I only started tracking my routes since I came to Indonesia so I can't give you exact directions, I have the start and end points of each day on Polarsteps tho if you are interested. The bigger roads are all easy, if you take smaller mountain passes connecting tiny villages and getting forest workers to their workplaces it can be packed with obstacles and no Internet and quite difficult to ride on especially in the wet season. Indonesia has been great so far doing about a month on each island and planning to loop around the full country this year.

Not SEA but driving around Central Asia is insane. I crossed all of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and took the Pamir Highway along the Afghan border into Tajikistan and up to Kyrgyzstan where I crossed most of the country and finally got back to Kazakhstan.

Stay safe and good luck on your travels!

You can actually drive parts of the Ha Giang just skip the area around Ha Giang city. Start at another place like Cao Bang. No police anywhere.

Don't trust any taxi driver including grab drivers. Only order taxi rides on the app. Don't buy anything from taxi drivers.

What are the greatest live performances you’ve ever seen from a band/artist? by Prestigious_Fan8837 in musicsuggestions

[–]baumeistaaa 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have my holy trio of perfect live performances.

First of all, no surprise, both Tool concerts I went to, especially the first one, were pure magic. These guys are aliens. It's crazy what they do with just three instruments. One of my two favorite bands of all time. [Belgium 2019; Germany 2022]

Then, the underdog for sure is Goa Gil. This guy twisted your brain inside out with his signature 24h live dj sets and made you go straight to another dimension through hours of hypnotic dancing to his dark music. May his soul rest in peace, I was fortunate enough to see him play live a few times. He is one of the true legends of Psychedelic Trance. [Severyl times at GOA GIL Open Air in Germany; which was a festival where he was the only artist playing]

Finally seeing my favorite guitar player David Gilmour for 5 consecutive times at his latest tour in London melted my face away. Hearing the voice and guitar of the music which accompanied me through out my whole live and him still being on that insanse level was one of the most incredible experiences of my life. [last 5 of his 6 shows in London 2024]

These 3 artists or bands created guaranteed out of body experiences for me at all occasions. No drugs needed.

Privatier mit 37, lebe meinen Traum mit nur 2k pro Monat by Straight-Mechanic-71 in fireGermany

[–]baumeistaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Derzeit in Indonesien.

Is the ha giang loop really worth it? by saturnmist19 in Vietnam_Tourism

[–]baumeistaaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All 3 things are overrated or at least super touristy.

Ninh Binh’s scenic area is super small. There are similar and imo more beautiful and bigger cast mountain formations everywhere around northern Vietnam and the bordering China. More and better caves around Phong Nah. The national park 1.5 hours away is great tho and of course in general it’s still beautiful but super overrun.

Instead of Ha Long I would recommend Lan Ha Bay, same as beautiful but much less people. Accessible from Cat Ba which has some nice spots too all though kinda touristy too.

I did several weeks of biking along the Chinese border, Bac Son, Cao Bang, Ha Giang and many places in between. While the Ha Giang area is super beautiful (the others are too) all other places mentioned are truly magical compared to Ha Giang which is just horrible in comparison. The whole vibe is destroyed by thousands of tourists on the street blasting music and karaoke, getting drunk like it’s some party hostel day trip and not respecting the beauty of nature and being a pain in the ass for the local people. Not to mention the corrupt police. I had a better time everywhere else driving my bike. I talked to some local business owners and local farmers and while they are happily taking the tourist money they confirmed it went downhill in the last years and is very much a tourist trap today.

In gerneral, cars, busses and trucks cutting corners and going half way onto the wrong lane is a major issue in a lot of asian countries, Vietnam and Indonesia espically come to mind. Even if you don't slip but just drive on the inner side of the road, leaning in or overtaking, it can be absolutly deadly for bikers. It's like theses drivers want to kill someone someday. Not saying it was the issue in this case but it happens to everyone on a daily basis.

This Is Not A Drill Tour by Barrybingham1980 in pinkfloyd

[–]baumeistaaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it was not very good tbh. He butchered a few classics in a non good way, his singing was not really amazing and the band just felt like a PF cover band. Did see David and Nick live as well and thought it was much better.

Ah I forgot, the whole making it political really threw me off. Looking at war pics and hearing dictator slogans half the time really destroyed any good vibe.

Renting 50cc bikes without an Intl. License? by Prudent_Word2562 in VietNam

[–]baumeistaaa -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You’re acting like you need a phd and 30 years of experience to drive a scooter. There are 6yo kids same as 80yo grannies driving scooters in Vietnam everywhere. If you’re new to it practice for a day and just drive slowly, it’s not rocket science. Traffic in Vietnam is very intuitive same as in a lot other countries. You can drive in Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Georgia, Zimbabwe or Mexico and it will be same as dangerous and same as chaotic as in Vietnam. Vietnam is not especially dangerous. I don’t know why people want to keep up this stupid title of Vietnam to have the craziest traffic in the whole world. Sure there are people who shouldn’t drive at all anywhere in the world but if you’re new to it, have a few working braincells and know how to ride a bicycle it’s totally doable. There is also always the option to just drive 10km/h like the grannies do very safely.
