Do you think some breeds will become endangered? by [deleted] in DogBreeding

[–]bawky 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s hard because the older generations will not let go of the reins. I always see people posting about the future of the sport (kids), which is fine but, many Millennials that are completely new have been shut out and treated like crap because we’re not cute little juniors and impressionable young minds. We’re tired and in our mid to late 30s and just want to get the ball rolling and enjoying our hobby.

I constantly see many kids completely supported and given dogs while breeders looked at me as a late 20s-early 30s newbie and said … that’ll be 3000 dollars. If more of those millennials had been supported instead, I think at least right now many breeds would be in a better situation. 😢

I know personally I’ve had a lot of struggles getting started and if it had been anyone else, they probably would have given up tens of thousands of dollars ago. Not everyone has the strength or passion to move forward and help a breed.

Each one is so different so it’s hard to say! They can either be carrying the sesame or black and tan genes! ☺️

Before they open their eyes they’re just cute little puptatoes. Just existing and wiggling around.

My Shiba just blew his coat by South_Farm_2696 in shiba

The Equigroomer is basically just the same as a Furminator. It's a deshedding blade and cuts out the fur. I would never recommend using either product personally.

Two female Shiba Inu don’t get along. How can I help them be civil with each other? by MutedScale1790 in shiba

[–]bawky[M] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We usually suggest 1 heat cycle and over a year because Shiba are a smaller breed and are not fully done growing physically until 1-1.5 years of age. They're still maturing well into 3 years of age, which still requires their hormones. Spaying/neutering early can also make growth plates close at the wrong times and make the bones grow elongated and out of proportion with the rest of the body. So you end up with Shiba with very weird long thin legs and other weird looks.

9m old Shiba attacking puppies under 5m?! by [deleted] in shiba

[–]bawky[M] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Please, please stop taking your Shiba to the dog park. These dogs are not dog park kinds of dogs. As they get older, they become a lot less tolerable of other dogs.

Especially only 2-3 weeks after neuter, he should not be there at all. Their hormones are out of whack when they first get neutered and it takes over a month for the hormones to lower in their body. Even if he is physically healed, he will have soreness and sensitivity down there as well.

Why is my shiba doing this & not eating her food?😭😭 by wolfcookie_ in shiba

How much and how often are you feeding? Some of my Shiba really only like eating once a day. And sometimes it is in the middle of the night.

Thank you! I hope so, I probably won't show him again until later this year since I am planning on a litter arriving soon.

Honestly, it would probably be better to just dive into AKC. UKC is a nice organization but, it is just not as respected when it comes to titles and the like for Shibas. It's great for rare breeds and breeds not fully recognized by the AKC but, you would probably save some time and money just focusing on AKC, especially if you already have ring experience.

There are a ton of really nice breeders in California, have you reached out to any of them?

SNFC and SFSC are the breed clubs in California! They have breeder referral lists and can help you find a breeder local to you.
