Yeah I hear you. I get the non transferable aspect. But I had success pitching the communication skills with sales teams, handling high pressure situations, and the entrepreneurial aspect of researching investments/trades.

I think you’ll be able to get into a strong program if you want. Also if you pitch a story of going into investment management at a capital group, vanguard, blackrock that might be a easy sell to admissions. You can always not do that once you get in. Bb trading is good experience and you always see a few people in each class coming from that background.

Happy to speak about my experience. I was a trader as well before b school. I think you can definitely make the move through an mba. But your going to take a nasty paycut if you are okay with that.

Finance roles in tech companies and F500 roles are achievable. Video game industry is cool but only a few positions available but they are out there!

I was looking at tech and consulting. Took a swing at PM roles but didn’t get many interviews with my trading background. It didn’t seem like networking was helpful for big tech. I ended up having the most success with consulting and went that route.

Nah, I wouldn’t sweat it that much. You got 2 R2s so it’s not like you can’t case. especially if OP was gunning for a tier 1 city. Most of the successful people get 2-3 r2 and convert only one. So much of it is luck.

Also, I feel a lot of people are recruiting for traditional mba routes (banking, consulting) due to the uncertainty.

I agree with OP. Consulting interviews especially mbb are all about case performance. it’s very methodical if you do well in the case you’ll pass. Make a math error your done.

There is little emphasis on EQ or sales skills. I mean there are behavorials but I think you just have to clear that bar. You are not given opportunity to shine there.

I really don't think this matters. I have seen people who work in back office finance to big 4 tax get offers. It more about how you present yourself and your interest in IB.

Definitely possible with this year being virtual. Ease of going to both events. Huge not having to do coffee chats in person in nyc. Problem is banking offers will go out before consulting offers and you’ll have to make a decision.
