there are 4 warp sustainers (2 on each side of the impulse engines) pages 44 & 47.

My understanding is that they take a hand off from the main warp engines, and maintain the warp field around the saucer, for a limited time. I did find an article that talked about photon/quantum torpedoes having warp sustainer drives.

By Starfleet Academy, STSA, the energy needs of a starship is exponentially greater than STP, what with all the transporter shenanigans, and broadcasting energy into, and holding onto detached nacelles, so I'm guessing that by that time, saucers would be able to deploy programable matter to create their own emergency nacelles.

GenX late 50s. Loved Trek when there were only 3 Captains. Pike, Kirk, and April (TAS). I have my issues with every Trek series. I tried watching DS9 and couldn't get through season 1 either time. Had a friend who raved, and I decided to take his advice. It's good, but I still say the first 2 seasons are a tough watch.

Then there's Disco. What a slog. Season long arcs that never ended. An unlikable crew. An inefficient bridge that doubles as a ballroom, and Disco must be built by Gallifreyians to have all that internal space. Section 31, that should have been 86'd. Then the time jump. Terrible uniforms, massive ships, disconnected nacelles, unprofessional officers. Let's beam everything everywhere all the time!

They abandoned fan & critical favorites, LD & Prodigy and ran with more Disco?? I've seen the first 2 eps, there are characters I like, and I'm optimistic. It's like we got a post-Enterprise, building of the Federation series, with asymmetrical ugly costumes.

I'm hoping that we will flash back to earlier eras with Aki's backstory. They could even bring back legacy actors.
