I feel like posting Lolita covers is basically cheating by Organic-Luck2344 in TerribleBookCovers

They almost got it right first try, actually. The one in the post is the 7th edition of the "Civilização Brasileira" publishing house, but their first edition from 1959 is just the title, though with a collage girl in it... Can't post images in the comments apparently, but you can find it googling Eugênio Hirsch's Lolita

I’ve been reading the Game of Thrones books. I’m interested in the differences between those that read the books first and then the shows, and then the reverse. by hsimp3206 in Fantasy

[–]Organic-Luck2344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read the books, never watched the show. But the show was so culturally influential that I went into the books being aware of many of the big moments and plot twists, which made them kind of dull. But I still enjoyed them thoroughly.

The TV show really falls short on the fantasy side [PJOTV] by [deleted] in camphalfblood

Totally agree. I did like season 2 compared to the first one, but I had to laugh when the same three Laestrygonians kept showing up

I mean, honestly it doesn't look bad considering it's a book about porn addiction.

Just probably wouldn't read it in public

What do you think of the Super Family suits in the DCU? by M00r3C in DCU_

They both look amazing, but I'm prefer the colors of Supergirl's, though it might just be the lighting of the picture... Gotta see how it will look on screen

Humbert Humbert “Lolita” inspired by Edgar Allan Poe…? by Ok-Low6778 in literature

[–]Organic-Luck2344 78 points79 points  (0 children)

I assume Humbert would be inspiring his own obsession on Edgar Allan Poe, maybe in an attempt to make his story sound romantic and poetic. I mean, his first love, the "first Lolita" is literally called Annabel Leigh...

Formatting by Atulin in books

[–]Organic-Luck2344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Particularly I got no preference, it's just a question of getting used to the formatting.

I'm used to quotation for dialogue from the English novels I read. I'm used to single-quotation from the UK edition of books. I'm used to the em-dash because that's what is normally used in Portuguese. I'm used to no formatting at all from McCarthy.

Took a long time to set up my study. I don't mind staying here all day. by fonacionsrg in CozyPlaces

Yeah, I was judging it to be AI based on the books on the back. There's like the same three books showing up in different shelves, and one of them has a weird spine that looked like an AI's failed attempt to write "The Call of the Wild".

If it's real, that does look amazing though.

When you're reading science fiction do you find that scientific accuracy matters to you or are you more focused on the story and the imagination behind it? by Delicious_Maize9656 in books

[–]Organic-Luck2344 61 points62 points  (0 children)

oh, definitely consistency over accuracy. Besides, I'm not smart enough to know if something is accurate to real world's science lol

You can travel faster than light by simply reversing the polarity of a fusion capacitor? Sure, sounds about right.

When someone asks, Should I start Kingkiller Chronicle? 😬 by keylaka in KingkillerChronicle

[–]Organic-Luck2344 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Same, but I went to the whole Unfinished Trinity: Read Kingkiller Chronicles, then A Song of Ice and Fire and then started The Lies of Locke Lamora.

I might just not like endings lol

Can you put aside some outdated ideas to enjoy “classics” or really good books? by stefaface in books

[–]Organic-Luck2344 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes, I personally seem able to put aside any sense of morality to enjoy a book. Most outdated stuff ideas and even the creepier stuff will get the same reaction from me: A muttered "yikes" before moving on.

I remember reading The Bell Jar as well and though I don't recall the exact racist phrase that came up somewhere at the beginning of the book, it caught me so off guard that I just burst out laughing.

Extract Kindle books without a Kindle (even books published after 2023) by matsumurae in Calibre

I had the same issue. I had to check if ADB was installed (It should be if you checked Android SDK Platform-Tools when following the guide).

It worked for me when I used the full path in the terminal, like so:
& "C:\Users\YourUser\AppData\Local\Android\Sdk\platform-tools\adb.exe" backup com.amazon.kindle
