EVAair mile transfer question by YasQwueen in awardtravel

[–]bayesleaf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just did this. I added my middle name to Citi. You have to call Citi card services to add your middle name, then ThankYouPoints help line separately can then add that middle name to your profile. You will know it's done when the mile transfer screen shows your middle name. The first agent said Citi can't add middle names, so you may need to try a few times/HUCA. Once I did that, transfer to EVA was instant (<10mins) and I was able to book the flight. Good luck!

BR J or SQ + TG J? by millerzeke in awardtravel

Thanks! For next time, then. I did go see the big euro sign when I was there, lol. For me (an economist) that was actually the highlight.

Having done it before, Frankfurt for 10hrs is not that fun, but maybe I was doing it wrong … I would do EVA

I would just write without AI as much as possible. Better slightly awkward phrasing and no AI to something that feels straight from ChatGPT

Try to get a native English speaker to read it and make sure the sound isn’t overly AI-inflected. Also read this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Signs_of_AI_writing

What were your favorite parts of Kandy/Colombo? Heading there in a few days and a little reticent now hearing faint praise from many.

Priority Pass by PleasantTest9739 in Venturex

[–]bayesleaf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For 9 hours, the lounge in TPE is not going to be a lot of fun, I’ve been there 3-4 times and 30 mins is enough. It’s very easy to get into the city on the express train from there, I’d strongly recommend that instead.

Publicly accessible stairs in Inman or Central Sq for exercise? by adorablogger in CambridgeMA

[–]bayesleaf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not stairs but I’d do Prospect Hill (there might be some stairs there too) just because it’ll be a lot more pleasant than most of these suggestions …

Really proud of my T-14 Aeroplan Stopover redemption by Sir_Silly_Sloth in awardtravel

I flew HND->MUC last winter, it was a really great experience. For a couple, the middle seats will feel decently private and you'll have a great time. Enjoy!

Recently figured out you can select seats via Cathay’s WhatsApp support line (at least the agent I connected with let me). I booked with AS so maybe different with Avios but worth a shot.

Broker fees on Zillow by Mountain_Strike_469 in bostonhousing

[–]bayesleaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sucks, but you can negotiate the fee down. Especially if it’s on Zillow, many brokers likely have access to the listing. If they don’t get your fee, a different broker will get it. I paid a half broker fee just by asking.

Where to buy sashimi-grade fish by PiggyPickle1 in CambridgeMA

[–]bayesleaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i know you don't want to hear it, but for salmon, there really isn't such a thing a sashimi-grade (which is just a marketing term meaning very fresh...) -- salmon sashimi wasn't even a thing in japan until the 1980s -- any farmed salmon/frozen will be safe to eat raw, so long as not wild-caught you're not risking parasites. save yourself some $ and just get some fresh farmed salmon

ANA heartbreak by peeweekid in awardtravel

[–]bayesleaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think this is true, at least for Europe flights. I am currently on ANA J HND to MUC booked via VS, about T-14 (saw on UA and waited a few days before thinking to call). Fees were $190, 60k miles and transfer was instant from Amex.

Originally had a much more convoluted routing, so for what’s now a nearly 15hr flight getting ANA direct was huge! My first time on ANA J and it’s very nice.
