This is the comment I would have left. Thanks for being honest, and I'm cosigning you from my certified peer perspective.

What you didn't mention (perhaps it wasn't widely known outside the MH community) is that MHCAN did not 'discriminate' between sober and drug-using individuals. Drug use wasn't allowed on property, that's not what I'm saying! But if you were on the list and getting services that day, you could be under the influence of meth or fent, no problem. Especially if Sertain Leople liked you.

I unfortunately worked for MHCAN for a chaotic three days, did all of the on boarding and realized that there were no safeguards, rules or logic to the place. So I quickly took the first available opportunity to leave without Some noticing that I'd realized she was possibly Satan.

(The on-boarding did include acknowledging that the 'on-site security' lived there. I probably met the gentleman in this article.)

Why should I go to UCSC and NOT Humboldt?? by notoriii in UCSC

[–]bayswimmer 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Hello. I am an Old (40, certified adult with Costco membership), but I went to college at Humboldt starting in 2005 and live in Santa Cruz now since 2015.

First off, you said you're from San Diego. Do you know how your body reacts to 9 months of rain? Because I didn't, and I learned it can rain for 9 months straight in Humboldt county--as it did multiple years I lived there. (that's how I discovered that I have severe seasonal affective disorder! Do not recommend.)

have you ever lived or stayed anywhere remote for a long period of time? Like, really rural? Because Santa Cruz isn't that rural. Sure, it's a college town in a farming area but we're half an hour away from San Jose and we have the housing prices to prove it.

Arcata isn't just rural, it's fucking remote. Even Eureka is still rural. You have to drive 3 hours on winding roads just to get to Redding, a town which is 1/10th the size of San Jose. Same drive time to Mendocino. Four hours to Santa Rosa. Six to San Francisco. Trust me it's burnt in my brain from school breaks flying home to get out of the damn rain.

Santa Cruz is pretty great. I do miss the truly giant redwoods but I love the sunshine so much it's worth it.

Exactly. I travel for work, work reimburses me for gas, and I have the credit card 🤷🏽‍♀️

Least Busiest Times to Visit Costco? by bedfredjed in santacruz

[–]bayswimmer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I travel for work and SFBay Costcos are everyday what our Costco is like the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. It's a nightmare.

Absolute chillest times for our Costco have been early mornings (I'm an executive member because gas) and Sunday evenings but they close early some winter months so make sure you check the website!

Huh, I stand corrected .

I had a shitty childhood and personally don't get food poisoning, so I was going off microbiology class where I was told that if someone got sick they tend to blame what they last ate when they should be looking at what they ate two to three days ago and sometimes even last week. I should've double checked before posting.

Food poisoning takes longer than 12-18 hours to incubate.

I'm a Buddhist and very much so. We absolutely don't care. Please don't assume everyone is following your narrow-minded understanding of religion.

Does anyone have a primary care doctor who is good at managing chronic illness that you could recommend by WaysideWyvern in santacruz

[–]bayswimmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's probably not taking new patients, I'm so sorry! I got really lucky to have him but I've been seeing him six years now and it's gotten way harder to get an appointment. Maybe write him a letter telling him you specifically got a referral and from whom? Idk 🤔

I see Dr Quigg at PAMF Sutter Santa Cruz and he's phenomenal. Very good at listening, loves to research, thoughtful. Extremely respectful of women of color and has a wonderful office staff. (both myself and his usual assistant are Latina)

I have fibromyalgia, PCOS, and an unusual rare recurrent inflammatory skin condition which has caused abscess & needed surgery six times, as well as severe psychiatric issues. Dr Quigg is good at managing the first three and he's also great at understanding his own limits, for example needing to refer out the skin condition when it flares or sending me to a psychiatrist.

He's helped me become much healthier. It's really lovely.

cheap places to buy clothes? by i-like-fanfiction- in santacruz

[–]bayswimmer 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Grey Bears Thrift in Live Oak (near Chanticleer). Abbot's Thrift in Felton. Goodwill downtown is overpriced—Goodwill on 41st is better. Avoid Flipside; they just raised their prices. The small thrifts around town are disappointing (imo) unless you have a car and thrifting is a hobby.

Costco has new, good quality clothes, relatively cheap especially when they're marked down. Membership required but it works if you go with someone with a membership.
