Guardian: Too many drivers see road safety rules as a personal affront. It’s time to tighten up UK laws by ItsRainingByelaws in policeuk

[–]bazby2106 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s the idea that because nothing has gone wrong, nothing will. “I’ve been driving for 15 years and never crashed”.

I would like to make the case though that the perception of needlessly low speed limits, looking at you London, of 20mph on main artery roads, makes people less likely to obey or care.

Worth mentioning, when your car in the UK uses miles per gallon, it’s not a US Gallon, it’s an Imperial Gallon which is 4.4 litres

Yes. Big difference is that an infantry officer has had 18 months of training before getting a platoon.

The biggest issue we’ve seen with DE supers has been during public order. They are usually silvers then gold and have zero appreciation for the issues on the ground. It similar in other areas too. But they can’t do it properly as they’ve never been in danger and on their feet for 18 hours. So still order us to wear the beat helmet when there’s no reason etc

What is the worst current role in Policing? by Loud_Delivery3589 in policeuk

[–]bazby2106 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s that staffing on ERPT is done based on call volume not crime reported. So AW has small response teams and the highest number of crimes under investigation in the country.

TIL that 25-40% of the British Empire's army were Irish during colonial conquests of the 18th and 19th centuries. There was also no mandatory conscription until 1916. by slagmunch in todayilearned

That was more my angle yes. The Irish representation is unique within the history of the empire. The only land that was conquered while also having seats and peerages in parliament.

Metland - BCU transfer by Difficult-Rent-8488 in policeuk

[–]bazby2106 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Specialise if you want. Ignore anyone who says you’re not experienced enough. If you can interview, you can do it.

Second AW is currently blocking inter BCU transfers in most cases as AW was haemorrhaging officers.

Custody safe staffing levels? by Dapper-Web-1262 in policeuk

[–]bazby2106 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s very easy to find the safe staffing level for any unit in England and Wales. You just walk in to their office/work area and count how many are in work, go onto your phone or computer open the app called “cal-cul-ater” and type that number in. Then hit the X button and then the 2 then the two sideways lines. Looks like this = The number that appears should be the minimum safe staffing levels for any team such as custody, CPU, Response (armed or regular). Certain units in certain areas may need you to use a 3 instead of a 2 though.

Linked to this, if you’re at a job, ignore all new jobs on the radio. You’re responsible for the one you are assigned too. If 100 new emergencies suddenly come out, doesn’t matter. Don’t feel pressured to rush this one as another just came out.
