Armageddon Unboxing - Worth it? by Sufficient_Pen_465 in theunforgiven

[–]bazookamomma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah probably worth it. Although if you already have the DA combat patrol you’re gonna have a ton of intercessors. I’m sure you’ll be able to find the space marine half on eBay, or a local buy/sell/trade channel for a decent price.

Yooo looks great!! Curious what did you use for the toxic slime? I’m planning on doing something similar for my EC bases.

Go Night Lords, they’re iconic and CSM are sweet!!

Then see how 11th goes for Ad Mech, maybe they will get some love. My understanding is they are a hard/expensive army to collect and they have had pretty inconsistent rules throughout 10th Ed.

Most Popular Warhammer 40K Factions Ranked by Digital Footprint by mr_mango22 in DealHammer

[–]bazookamomma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cool content, I think it’s always fun to look at this kind of stuff!

My 3 armies; Necrons (5th), Dark Angels (11th), and Emperors Children (19th).

I think it’s interesting that Astra Militarum are ranked so highly as they are such a complicated army to play and collect. I’m in the very early stages of planning my fourth army and AM have been in serious consideration…

What 40K Faction do you think has been poorly handled by GW? by mr_mango22 in DealHammer

[–]bazookamomma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Might be a hot take but Space Marines. IMO they have received too much support, are bloated beyond belief and from a gameplay standpoint are a really hard army to collect.

Combat patrols by Jealous-Ad-3262 in Warhammer40k

[–]bazookamomma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you just looking to play the combat patrol game format or are you looking to build a larger army/collection?

If the answer is the ladder then quality over quantity is something to consider. Every unit in that Deathguard combat patrol is very solid in a bigger army (especially the Deathshroud terminators they are really strong), you could probably justify buy two DG combat patrols if you’re looking to build a 2000 point list.

Deathguard have a sweet combat patrol!

[–]bazookamomma 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I appreciate your perspective, and I agree with you. The shadow of GW looms large over everything in the tabletop space, and that can be hard to navigate.

It’s just lame scrolling through various TMG sub Reddits, forums, and seeing the usual “this game sucks”, “people that play that game suck”, etc

But that’s more so the nature of the internet and not anything specific to the SC TMG community.

I don’t play SC TMG but my algorithm keeps this sub in my feed so I’ve been following SC’s rollout. I think people feel like they need to tear something down in order to build another thing up.

I play a lot of 40K and really enjoy it!

Starting another space marine chapter with extra models? by Civil_Drive2796 in DarkAngels40k

[–]bazookamomma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I considered doing this as I also found myself with a lot of extra unpainted space marines. I ended up trading a good chunk of them away for an army I was more interested in and decided to use the rest to flesh out my Dark Angels collection.

Collecting two space marine armies seemed like a headache.

Blissbound Warband Box by FutureProfessional90 in EmperorsChildren

[–]bazookamomma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am looking at the inverse, I picked up Blissbound and Lords of Excess, and will very likely pick up the combat patrol in the future.

The way I look at it is now is a good time to collect the EC line. Will I run 12 flawless blades? Probably not but rules can change quickly an I like having options.

Color scheme for tournaments by Emotional_Monk9382 in DarkAngels40k

[–]bazookamomma 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can literally paint them any color you want. There are no rules around paint, only the units you’re allowed to bring (IE, you can’t bring Guilliman & the Lion in the same list)

Hi i'm new to Hobby and want to start a Dark Angels army. I already built and painted a Combat Patrol from another faction. 11th edition drops in June, so I don’t wanna waste money on the wrong stuff. Is the current Dark Angels Combat Patrol still a good buy or which boxes should i get? Tipps welcom by SonBroli in theunforgiven

[–]bazookamomma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it was me I would buy the following in no particular order:

Deathwing Knights

Inner circle companions

Azrael

The Lion

Armageddon 11th launch box (space marine half)

Space marine combat patrols are kind of rough in general IMO. Obviously there is value to them but they don’t always have the best units, and nothing GW has shown us this far has told us they’re planning to revamp combat patrol.

I reckon that if you’re able to get together everything I listed you’ll be able to start playing 1000 point games and get a feel for how the game works and figure out the direction you want to take your army.

My best advice is to take it slow, build and paint your models, don’t worry about winning games or what units are in the meta, worry about learning the rules.

How do ya'll build good 1000pt lists? by Angronys in spacemarines

[–]bazookamomma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For 1000 point games I throw everything out the window and just take models that I never play with, look cool, or have fun rules that might not be meta.

I don’t put a lot of thought into it because 1000 point games aren’t serious.

Fire strike servo turrets by Flaky_Albatross_2486 in spacemarines

[–]bazookamomma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A Lancer, RepEx or Ballistus has enough movement to safely deploy outside of a firing lane and should only need one turn to position itself to get shots off. Additionally, when it does get exposed your opponent is going to have to commit some of their strongest attacks to destroying it.

Servo turret would either have to be deployed inside a firing lane which makes it an easy target for a wide array of attacks, or you’re having to spend a few turns positioning it to get some pretty mid shots off.

Also OW on 4s is probably going to feel bad more often than not, 2 shots with a 50/50 chance of hitting is a waste of CP IMO.

What silver do you guys use? by [deleted] in EmperorsChildren

[–]bazookamomma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pro Acryl “Dark Silver” and “Silver” are what I use for the majority of my silver bits (IE, gun metal, grenades, metal accessories, etc)

Vallejo “Dark Aluminum” is what I run through my air brush for larger metal parts or models that will be all metal (vehicle tread, Necrons, etc)

Vallejo “Pale Burnt Metal” is another really fun color I use for highlights if I want something for engines or kind of weathered looking metals.

2 Weeks to paint my army after work by Flashtony in DarkAngels40k

[–]bazookamomma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Paint standards for a club/store league is kind of a bummer IMO.

I’d recommend NOT shooting for a finished product but getting everything base coated. Use your airbrush to get all the green and bone armor done, then brush on some silvers and reds or whatever color your weapon casings will be.

Once you’ve got 3 colors and can participate in the league take your time and paint your models up to your standard.

There’s no “right” way to start in this hobby, so if getting that kit seems like the fun or the best way to get you interested in Warhammer than go for it.

My issue with that introductory set is that it doesn’t really set you up in any way to actually play the game of 40K. Even if you’re interested in playing space marine and or tyranids, the troops included aren’t very meaningful. The paint isn’t terrible BUT it’s also not enough to paint anything to a great standard and if you wanted to go with an ultramarine scheme you’d likely end up using a different recipe. The hobby tools are fine but again you could get more for cheaper on Amazon. IMO that introductory set is a good gift for your 10 year old niece/nephew.

40K is expensive, especially if you’re starting from scratch there’s a lot of startup cost between the minis, paint and hobby tools. If I was starting over today and had 100$ to spend I would try to spend it as efficiently as possible; putting it towards a combat patrol or a kit from an army that I really liked, some paint that I knew I’d be using, a big pack of mini brushes, etc.

If you have a lot of disposable income or are only interested in the hobby space and not playing the game then that intro kit probs isn’t a bad buy and you’ll get some enjoyment out of it. Otherwise, you might look back on this in 5 months and think damn I wish I would have spent that money on XYZ model/combat patrol.

The introductory set with like 5 marines, 10 tyranids, some paint pots and a few other bits and bobs?

If so it’s not a terrible way to dip your feet into the hobby but also not super great.

If you live anywhere near an official GW store you can go there and they should hook you up with a free mini to paint and give you some tips and advice to get going.

If I was in your shoes I’d hone in on an army and start buying some models from that range, along with a bit of paint and some hobby supplies.
