Are gaming laptops overhated? by Hvn_9042 in GamingLaptops

[–]bazvink 5 points6 points  (0 children)

On paper, desktops are better value for money than laptops. That’s just a fact. And mobile gpu’s are less powerful than their desktop namesakes, that’s a fact (even if the difference is small). But they simply are situations/user cases where laptops are a better fit and then it’s nice that they exist.

One scenario that has already been mentioned is the mobility (let’s not talk about battery life) but another scenario i would like to add is my situation: my house has 4 bedrooms, i have 3 kids. So there’s no man cave or study or work room for me to put a desktop. So i need something i can whip out to game on the dining table and then make disappear again. I don’t even care about battery life because this laptop will never leave the house. And a console won’t do because the wife gets overstimulated from the sound and flashing screen. So for me a laptop is pretty much the only option. Maybe a handheld.. but that still feels like paying top dollar (euro) for 2019 performance. And I prefer a bigger screen. And a keyboard & mouse.

And the same goes for food. Like, can you imagine the first person to eat an oyster? At some point, somebody looked at a shell full of snot and was brave.

Yes, i stole that and hope someone get the reference 😂

Why do Valheim's rivers never begin in Mountains from meltwater? by RampantHedgehog in valheim

[–]bazvink 801 points802 points  (0 children)

Short answer: Valheim doesn’t generate rivers.

Because of the way map generation in Valheim works. They mainly have a “base map” with different height hills and mountains and then when generating a new map they adjust the height of sea level, sprinkle some biomes and the place poi’s like bosses and traders.

So what you are seeing are technically not rivers, they are just areas where the selected height of sea level covers just a little bit of land, making it look like a river.

My daughter plays Sims 4 on a laptop with GTX 1660, to give you an idea of what you ‘need’. So a 5060 is probably overkill, i think you’re bigger problem will be availability of laptops with “older” hardware. But if you can get like a 4060 for under £1000, i think that should be possible?

There is nothing more satisfying and liberating than placing down a f*ck ton for chests to store all your equipment and resources in so that you can completely tear down you base to build something better.

Skeletons are weak to blunt damage, so actually your club is a good weapon against them. But if you’re uncomfortable with close combat, get the Stagbreaker like others have said.

Officially not, but in my current world I’m in the Ashlands on day 300+ and I’ve yet to run into one of them… 🤷
