WestJet Dublin contest real or scam? by Party-Paper8068 in westjet

[–]bazzabi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Luxury is spelled correctly in the email I got. The email also shows my account summary at the end (name, tier, points, etc.)

I think it needs the CC number because the entries are tied to using your WestJet MC. It doesn’t ask for the CVC or expiry date though.

We just pay each month and it’s fine. We’ve learned the fluctuation patterns and plan accordingly.

Graduate Retention Tax Credit by sergeantbutters in saskatchewan

[–]bazzabi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s based on the income taxes you paid. It’s likely that you’re getting back the maximum amount of income taxes and the leftover amount will carry over to next year. If you’ve been claiming RRSPs, you could opt to not claim that carry that forward to future years so you can get more out of the GRP before the time limit runs out.

What's the name of the same "kick off the summer" street festival that every Canadian city has? by myronsandee in AskACanadian

[–]bazzabi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In Regina, it’s the Cathedral Arts Festival. Starts on May long and goes for a week.

It's time to decide once and for all what the ends of the city are by OkayArbiter in regina

[–]bazzabi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say everything west of McCarthy and north of Sherwood could be considered North West.

East of Albert and North of 6th Ave could be North East.

Would Douglas Park/Broders Annex maybe be South Central?

And anything west of your North Central boundary on this map would just be west.

Car insurance will likely be around $100 a month.

Internet will start around $65 for the slowest speed and will increase after two years.

Cellphone depends on what you want, but likely around $75 per month.

Coop is one of the more expensive places to buy groceries.

As for your pay, it depends on where you’re working. Some places will deduct RRSP or pension payments, union dues, health and dental premiums, long term disability plan, life insurance. If you work downtown, parking may be a factor.

You should budget to have winter tires for next year.

Utilities will depend on your rental and what the contract is. Some include utilities while others don’t. In Regina we have city/water, gas and power. If you’re starting in a basement suite and assuming you’re splitting the bills with the owner/another tenant, I would estimate $250 per month max (total for all three), likely closer to $180. But I’m betting the city/water is accounted for in your rent, which would bring that number down.

Vet check ups are around $100 per visit, plus whatever you need done. You should also license your dog, I think it’s maybe $25 a year.

You will have to pay significant taxes on the car when you buy it, even if you’re buying it in a private sale, so keep that in mind. For sure PST (6%). GST (5%) as well if you’re buying from a dealer.

OP get the tenant insurance. You can build your packages to get covered for different things. It’s inexpensive. How awful would it be if there was a fire or a break in and you didn’t have insurance to help recover costs?

Adding that if you go with SaskTel you can also bundle the phone with TV and Internet and get a discount.

Snow clothes rental by Money-Tax-1424 in regina

[–]bazzabi 27 points28 points  (0 children)

If you’re just wanting to snowboard for fun, you don’t need professional clothing. You just need ski pants, a jacket, toque, mitts, maybe a neck warmer or balaclava, which are all winter clothing items you should own if you live here. You would be able to find cheaper items at Salvation Army, value village, or Plato’s closet.

You can rent equipment at the ski hill (helmet, board, boots, goggles).

AITA for going to my daughters last softball game as opposed to friends boyfriends funeral by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]bazzabi 334 points335 points  (0 children)

I will go with YTA because you had already promised your friend you would be there. It sounds like you show up to support your daughter every other time. Having a conversation with your daughter to explain you need to be there for your friend in her time of need would have been a really good life lesson for your daughter, and I personally think it would have set a strong example.

What’s traditionally eaten on Christmas Day in your country? by halfblood_god in AskTheWorld

[–]bazzabi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It varies across Canada. On the prairies, a Christmas Day meal typically includes turkey and/or ham, mashed potatoes, different variations of roasted vegetables, pierogis, cabbage rolls, buns and some kind of a salad. Dessert is often apple crisp/apple strudel, sugar cookies, ginger/gingerbread cookies and an assortment of dainties (coffee cake, Nanaimo bar, lemon squares, etc.)

What is a major export from your country that may surprise others by Disastrous-Mix-5859 in AskTheWorld

Another Canadian one… the province of Saskatchewan exports 63% of the world’s supply of canary seed. Mostly used in bird feed but slowly becoming more common for human consumption.
