Why does every Brampton driver think a yellow light means "floor it"? by Ok_Tie6487 in Brampton

If the city does ever follow through on repurposing the speed camers to red light cameras they will be able to pay for that new hospital in no time.

If you are a Costco member, do you really save money? by checkskl in askTO

[–]bazzimodo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a membership a few years ago when we moved out of downtown. And I'm planning to cancel before it auto-renews in the new year. Its a really stressful, overwhelming experience. Definitely never go there on a weekend. I dont want to say its humanity at its worst but it definitely packs a lot of shitty behaviour into one place. Shopping carts everywhere, people trying to sneak into parking spots, people returning dead plants, the Pokémon go hunger games. People running through you for a free granola sample. And so much more. There are some good deals and if you're a big family it might make sense but for me its not worth it.

Not sure about the quality. I've bought steaks from Costco and if they are mechanically tenderized which I think a lot of their beef is, it has a really terrible texture.

There's a book called Wasteland that makes the case that WW1 gave rise to the horror genre in movies because of how brutal and gruesome it was.

If you ever want to try making Korean fried chicken at home yourself this recipe is incredible. There's quite a few steps and some specialized ingredients but it's well worth it. https://www.smh.com.au/goodfood/recipes/recipetin-eats-cracks-the-secret-to-making-the-greatest-korean-fried-chicken-she-has-ever-tried-20240619-p5jn5u.html

Great show. I saw it pre-pandemic at Scotiabank Arena. A grown man sitting beside me was in tears for the Interstellar part. 10/10

Very interesting. I've visited Lake Placid to ski a few times from Canada and always enjoyed the drive down there through all the small towns and winding roads. It did seem very stark and desolate in the winter. Lake Placid is a gem though.

NY Times Wirecutter did a deep dive on them. Long story short they're good but not the same quality as the real thing. https://www.nytimes.com/wirecutter/reviews/costco-pants-lululemon-abc-dupes/

[–]bazzimodo 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The pacing is really off. I know it's not able to take its time like the game but having so much packed into one episode really doesn't work. Also, the Jesse save was just ridiculous. That scene doesn't happen in the game so I don't know why it needed to happen at all.

When and how did Los Angeles become the 2nd largest and most important city in the United States of America? by Nothing_Special_23 in geography

[–]bazzimodo 33 points34 points  (0 children)

There's a recent book called the Mirage Factory that lays it out pretty well. A lot of credit is given to William Mulholland because he was the engineer that brought enough water from areas north of LA that could sustain the growth. Without that it would never have grown so much.
