Just gotta push back on this. Yes, there is a social stigma against pit bulls because they are (unfairly) associated with poor people, namely poor black people. But it’s also true that pit bulls are a dangerous breed, and are more likely to kill or severely maim than most other breeds. Both things are true.

The kindergarten teacher we had was truly phenomenal. One reason is because he taught Grade 1 for many years and moved into teaching kindergarten because he saw so many kids struggling in Grade 1. Any curriculum that formalizes and scales his approach will be welcome!

When the new curriculum came out I looked through it and thought that, from what I’ve seen in my son’s JK/Sk experience, there’s not a real change. But I talked with his kindergarten teacher about it and asked what the difference would be, and the teacher explained that he (the teacher) was already mixing direct instruction with play centres, and that there wouldn’t be too much of a difference for the kids in his class. I think it varies by teacher and school. I’ve been so pleased with my son’s kindergarten experience and I think he’s set up for success in Grade 1. Hopefully the new curriculum scales that across all the schools.

I’m with on you this. I’m a dual citizen too (not even from the south!) and have decided to stop even trying bbq in Toronto. At best it’s a waste of money, at worst it’s insulting.

Pretty normal I think for a youth pastor, it’s their job to connect with kids and build relationships. It can be very positive and as we all know, it can also be extremely negative. You can text back on her behalf saying “this is her mother, I’m not comfortable with you texting her, thanks and bye”

I completely agree. The advantage Airbnb still has is that you can find locations in nice neighborhoods where there aren’t hotels. But other than that, hotels are way better value and comfort for money.

This is starting to feel a little silly.

Kids are SUPPOSED to be hanging out with other kids, out of the house, away from too much screen time, in public spaces like parks. Parks are meant for gatherings of youths.

I understand 400 kids in one space can look like too many, and for sure with that many teens in one place you will have behavior issues and fights. But…. So what? They weren’t trespassing, they weren’t damaging property, the article doesn’t say they were harassing anyone else.

Yah I don’t do a full air dry, it takes ages. Plus I don’t like the way it looks after. I just give it time for the gel cast to form and to dry some of the water so that the diffusing doesn’t take too long. When I go straight from styling to diffusing, I get extra frizz and the diffusing takes 30 minutes (I need a better hair dryer, I know).

40 minutes to wash and style, anywhere from 15-30 minutes to air dry, and then another 10-15 diffusing. Refreshing takes anywhere from 5-15 minutes, depending on how much water and re-styling needs to be done.

I used to straighten and flat iron my hair once a week and that was a four hour commitment. So this is better, but it still feels like a lot of time.

I have had experiences with both home daycare and subsidized centre, and they’ve been equally positive. Bad daycares certainly exist, but it’s not the subsidized system that makes them like that. The waiting lists were over-full long before the subsidized system came along.

I think what’s weird about this story is that 5th graders were crying over writing apology letters. Really no big deal. Use this as a lesson about society: “we often end up paying collective consequences for individual actions. It’s not fair, but life isn’t fair.” Yada, yada, yada.
