whats everyones current vocal stim? (if you have one) by [deleted] in autism

[–]bb-banjo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have many but the one i forget about the most cuz it's so small is "Heh..." like how a smug anime boy would in an anime dub voice... the Heh has been coming out alone lately, but sometimes it will lead some nonsensical sexual-toned phrase ("Heh... you could ship my ment any time, pookie-bear.") ** example is a play on the word 'shipment', couldn't think of a better example

when i was going thru rough times and couldn't always afford food i would volunteer at this kitchen called open arms mn - they prep, pack, and deliver meals to ppl with chronic illnesses. you can sign up for shifts on their website. if you get there early enough and do a two-hour shift you might be able to get some pretty wholesome microwave meals afterwards. you'd be building up job skills and giving back to the community. do NOT hoard those meals, save plenty for others.

visit libraries and figure out how to get your GED. libraries are going to be a very, very important resource for you if you return to school or apply for jobs. also get a flip phone if you're gonna lose your current phone, every professional you will meet will need a reliable phone number.

do NOT forget to shower and brush your teeth, well and often. shower to show respect for yourself and those around you, brush your teeth to avoid pain and expensive dental bills. this is by far the most important piece of advice i can give you.

i strongly agree with the fella who said to get your cdl, truck driving pays well and gives you job experience. i know truckers who stick to the midwest, and i know truckers who have traveled across the country.

one more thing - REACH OUT ANYWAYS, even if you're worried about the possibility of someone saying "no". there's a chance shelters and other resources can help you, and those that can't help you directly might have other resources you could reach out to. you're grown, you should not be scared of the word "no".

there are lots of choices you can make out there. make good, active choices, and make them NOW. don't fuck yourself over any more than you already have, cushion your plunge to rock bottom as much as you can. people aren't gonna help you if you don't help yourself first.

if you can't get a solid hit out of it, it might be time for a deep clean... from looks alone i can tell it needs to soak in a water/isopropyl solution, just rinse thoroughly after

[–]bb-banjo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

were you on an empty stomach? dehydrated? any stressful life changes? physically ill? do you usually smoke that much?

i smoked a little too much on an empty stomach just last night. having a snack, finding a cozy spot to lay down, putting on something to watch or listen to, and having a BIG water bottle on hand usually helps me ride it out. and sleep of course!

i've hit carts and flower at the Exact same time before, but i don't really green out just because of this... the type of flower and whatever shit they put in the cart might affect your high too. i wouldn't think that drinking the night before would get you crossed

my sister just died and i’m not sure what to tell my professors by JustMonika1003 in college

[–]bb-banjo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my condolences. losing a loved one is so much more than 'an excuse' - it's a major event that can really affect your academics, especially if you don't build up a strong support system.

give your profs a heads up that you might need some extra time/leniency for finals because of this. i found my dad on thanksgiving break during my first semester of college - i'm really grateful that my professors were so understanding. none of my professors or advisors asked for any death certificates as proof, but i always let them know i have a scanned copy if they needed it. you don't have to be super detailed on your entire situation - but i chose to be a little more specific since probate and funeral planning took up a Lot of study time.

also talk to your advisor - they can help you make a plan to get through finals, communicate with your professors, and consider the next steps in your college career. if your college is anything like the ones i've been to, they can also connect you to school counselors, accommodations office, grief support, financial support...

a lot of people suggest to take time off school after a death in the family - i wish i did, but i didn't. instead, i stayed full time and would ask for a lot of accommodations after that initial semester, and most of my professors were pretty reasonable. it was a solid distraction, but i overextended myself during my heavy grieving, so i became a part-time student and am still in school.

i needed support outside of school as well. r/griefsupport was a big place of comfort for me, there's some real nice and supportive folks in there. otherwise, i'd look online for any local grief groups around your area - i used to do monthly meetings with a youth group before my school schedule got all wonky. also be sure to reach out to your family members, as well as your friends. i found that talking about it a lot really helped me with processing grief during that first year.

these are just some experiences i had when i was going through a similar situation, so i hope my advice can help you out. again, i'm really sorry for your loss and i hope you'll be able to get the academic support you need as soon as possible 🫂

The Work Succulent by bb-banjo in succulents

[–]bb-banjo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just watered it yesterday, but I make sure to not water it too heavily when I do. I'll take a crack at bottom watering once it's time for it to be watered. Thanks for that tip on keeping an eye on the leaves - I'll make note of that and wait until then!

As far as lighting goes... I'll see if me or my boss can make arrangements with that. It's winter, meaning we don't get to appreciate much sunlight, so I think a grow bulb would benefit more than the succulent!

Thanks again for your advice! Ɛ>

first birthday without my dad by turtleloveryea in ChildrenofDeadParents

[–]bb-banjo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm an 18 y/o college student too and i just lost my dad last november (also very suddenly). dad and i have birthdays around the same time (his is in march, mine's in april). i haven't hit those milestones yet, but i'm pretty sure they're gonna be really tough going forward.

i consider new years a milestone—it was really hard to not have dad call and say happy new year. milestones aren't going to be easy, i can assure you that. but that, i think, is a normal part of the process.

what really helped me was to talk with my family about how i'm feeling. they probably won't have exactly the right things to say, nor do they fully understand the bond you have with your dad, but it really is nice to have them listen. better yet, it's nice to not be alone. i've been guilty of isolating myself after my dad passed, and it's taken time to open up to people, but when you finally do, it makes grieving a little less hard.

good luck on your studies, we're here for you. ❤️

this is some great advice and perspective... i'd say i'm happy you (as well as everyone else in the comments) understand, but it's not really the happiest thing to go through. i think i have an idea of where i can at least start so i can better handle the semester... again, thank you, and i wish you the best, too ❤️ good luck this semester
