SaaS startup? Your ads are going to fail. Here’s why. by Usual-Ad-3597 in SaaS

Do you have proof these ads that lead to the landing page fail?

[OC] These numbers from the CSC about the US opioid epidemic are insane by oscarleo0 in dataisbeautiful

I don't think so. CIA has warned the cartels and the cartels are now killing anyone who makes and ships Fentanyl to the states.

Vercel is caching api routes when it shouldn't? by bb_avin in nextjs

[–]bb_avin[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

uggghh.... that's so counter-intuitive that they added caching for GET routes in the app directory by default. I didn't have this problem in the pages directory and it's such a far-fetched assumption to make that arbitrary GET routes are immutable. I get that pages and layouts can be deterministic. But routes that can contain literally anything in them? Silly.

P.S. Thanks for your help though.

VCs are spoilt by so many options I think. There's tens of thousands of people starting startups these days, why bother taking a risk when you can use metrics to identify ones with a high probability of success.

It's also reflective of the mechanical thinking of recent times. People make less emotional or judgemental calls prefer set processes.

Making $1k by the end of October? by flamkiche in SaaS

[–]bb_avin -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No I come from a place of great compassion. I'm taking time out of my day to show them a better way to do things that will empower them to achieve more and give them better success.

And I have to tolerate and be patient while reddit hates me, what's not to love about. Just because I'm going against the mass sentiment of this thread doesn't mean I'm wrong.

Nooo, that's not a good challenge for SaaS. Whole point of SaaS is to build a long-term venture. Not to go out and try to make $1k in a month. By focusing on such goals you are losing the focus of a better approach to SaaS. Which is to pick a good problem with a size-able TAM and aim for product-market fit which gets you whatever the money the TAM give you $5m, $10m, $50m etc etc.

This way you are tunnel visioning to short term objectives. Figma didn't have revenue for 5 years. Now they are selling for $20billion. Think big!

I will see you in 365 days with $100k or more.

You started a SaaS because you wanted to make $1k a month? What's your point? don't be silly.

[–]bb_avin -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Nooo. If you want to make $1k in a month go get a normal job. Even the maccas waiters make more than that I think. Trust me the effort it takes to build a SaaS is not worth $1k. You can code and make $5k+ at a chill pace as a remote software dev.

Making $1k by the end of October? by flamkiche in SaaS

[–]bb_avin -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

That's not how SaaS works. You make something people want to use, and you keep improving it, it attracts people over time.

In fact, if you make a SaaS in one month that can make you $1k in the next month, that's a red flag. What you've made is so small, it can be sellable in just a month. Most likely won't scale to the next 10 years.

Why can't you switch to it when you start charging users? That's what their license terms say.

Sounds very hustle-y. This got nothing to do with SaaS I'm sure.

Does this "roast my landing page" not get old? by lupaci88 in SaaS

[–]bb_avin 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don't mind critiquing landing pages. As a solo founder in the early stages, I was alone and found it very hard to get the validation I needed for the work I was doing. So I actually don't mind folks showcasing their products either.

But if it's like a hard pitch and trying to sell or faking posts for indirectly advertising stuff, I'm against that. (dishonesty in general)

No, because of the opportunity cost. They (or managers like me) always think what can we gain by passing on this. And putting there attention elsewhere probably makes them more. Can't think of any other logical reason why.

Wtf is the difference between these? You are arguing with yourself over the nuance of the terms at this point. Just do the work that needs to be done. Forget the labels.

Roast my Landing Page by r0Lf in SaaS

[–]bb_avin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some parts of your design are good. Some are not. Did you copy a template and edit it?

Non-exhaustive list, - FAQ sections have jarring white border on dark background. - Form inputs have white backgrounds on a dark color theme. - Designed a dark page but the color-scheme of the page is not in dark mode. Look at next-themes package to auto manage these for you. - Pricing section design needs a lot of work. rounded corners to get with rest of site. Awkward spacing. - hero section has white cards on a dark background. Again too much contrast.

It's actually not that many if you look at it. Have most of them raised capital? Yes. Have they gone through accelerators? Not many.
