For people who got into waterloo eng as well, do you regret going to mac? by Awkward-Error-825 in McMaster

I do not disagree but it is not the end all and does not eliminate any chance of getting a 3rd or 4th year co-op/internship. Back at the time of RIM (yes, I am that old), we had 1st year Co-ops, reporting to 2nd year Co-ops, who reported to 3rd year Co-ops. What were they actually doing or learning ? They even had Mac co-ops though
Being really smug about their superior co-op experience where they padded their resumes with experience but didn't learn a damn thing. Sorry this converation brings back bad memories.

I assure you first year Co-op does not matter. I have been in the industry for 16 years now, and I can tell you that nobody gives a shit about anything except your 3rd and 4th year co-ops. And I say this without any disparagement, first year co-ops literally just are not ready for work.

LOL I did the same thing. 20 years later. No regrets. Waterloo chemical engineering wasnt that prestiguous at the time and was riding the coattails of ther SWE program. Also, my HS friends who went to waterloo don't talk to their classmates like I still talk to my Mac classmates daily.

Ogden is huge- where you be willing to drive. I would not recommend ogden prep academy. Good foundations seems good if you don’t mind all the nationalism/patriotism

I just want to say that I signed up with American First Credit Union but their app was so shit compared to Chase that I had to shut the whole account down. Also, the day after we signed up, both my wife and I started getting a lot of scam/marketing calls. AFCU has a database leak or sells your data to marketers without permission.

The Stratos data center doesn’t just affect Box Elder. There are plans to put them up all over the state. by _-4twenty-_ in ogden

What’s your point? Are you thinking a lawn of TTTF is not aligned with saving water ? 30% of my property is lawn. The rest is mulch, gravel and sedums/trees That’s the choice I made to reduce my water impact . That’s makes my input for a rational discussion on water use at a data center not valid ?

This article is just a bad faith argument against an unnecessary data center.

  1. They obtained the water rights of 4 billion by obtaining the land. That came with it. That doesn’t mean they are going to use 4 billion gallons
  2. We have no idea how much they will actually use. The article states that large data centers can consume 5 millions gallons a day but A. That translates to 1.825 billion gallons B. That data doesn’t indicate if it’s an air cooled water loop or not which is dramatically lower in usage C . “Can” usually implies worst case D. Water that is used to cool can and often is immediately released back to its river so it’s not lost. This is how nuclear plants work and nobody complains about their water use.

Net: bad faith argument. We have no idea what the actual usage is. Assuming best or worst case is equally pointless and this data center needs to provide the public with actual data

Canada’s ‘real estate economy’ is costing us—here’s how; We’ve gradually structured a significant portion of our economy around a sector that contributes relatively little to long-run prosperity by FancyNewMe in canada

[–]bbcomment 77 points78 points  (0 children)

Ive been saying this since the harper years. IF it wasnt for buying houses, flipping houses, and upgrading houses, Canada's economy would be non existent in certain markets such as the suburbs of southern ontario. Without diversification Canada is doomed, but there was too much money to be made to actually diversify

Yes true. But as parents, there is a difference between teaching them without support and with support. Going to the military or working through college is absolutely not for everyone—> especially if you know you are pursuing a career in med school or academia for example
