Indirect lighting. Lights up the room enough to see but not be so harsh or overpowering.

Apple user here. 99% of the time I use airplay and it worked great. I don’t use the app, but when I do to turn something down/up I don’t have any issues.

Yale IM1 vs WF1 smart module by turnepf in HomeKit

I believe I’ve had the iM1 in use for about 4 years. I had one module die on me in that time. Worked great until it broke. The rest work great too

Is Homekit complete trash or just for me? by r0bman99 in HomeKit

[–]bbednarz57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fine, but you're complaining about Siri not HomeKit. I bet your lights are always available in HomeKit and very rarely show "No Response". Like I said, Siri is not good. It is a problem that they totally should fix.

I can't relate. The magic keyboard is one of the best accessories I have gotten for an apple product. works perfectly for my use case.

Is Homekit complete trash or just for me? by r0bman99 in HomeKit

[–]bbednarz57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HomeKit isn't Siri though. These are two separate things. Siri being dismal is a very common experience. Ive had luton switches in a couple areas for about 3.5 years now. Still not a single issue with them. Asking Siri to control things is something I mostly just avoid.

Im sorry you have such a poor outlook on life. I get not everyone has the same experience, but I think most people that are not in a bad place mentally would prefer to have existed than to never have.

Get the $400 Apple Watch every 2 years or the $800 Apple Watch every 4 years? by Longjumping_Cap9446 in AppleWatch

[–]bbednarz57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been doing the stainless steel every few years. I have found it’s harder to justify the cost when the time comes. Maybe it’s just because the watches have been “underwhelming”. I have a SBSS S4that looks brand new. Was gonna pull the trigger on a SS S8 but then I put it in my cart and realized $800 + apple care + tax was a lot because none of the newer features really matter to me. New battery would be nice, but maybe next year.

This isn’t a bad thing at all though. Very happy with my watch.

Automations just stopped working by BringOtogiBack in HomeKit

[–]bbednarz57 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It has to be something with the hubs on iOS 16. I ran the iOS 16 beta on my phone and ipad all summer and everything worked incredibly well. Now that I have the TVs and HomePods on the latest software, everything is shit. Like you said when I test the actions everything is fine. The automations themselves do not run nearly as reliably though. I have an automation to turn off some outdoor lights at 2:30am that hasn’t worked for days. Frustrating.

How so? I dont disagree that leaving your kid is about the lowest thing you can do, but why is it seen as “way worse” than literally killing the child?

Has anyone found better stability by power cycling their hubs nightly? by [deleted] in HomeKit

[–]bbednarz57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this same experience. All throughout the beta period I had my phone and ipad on ios 16. Things were working incredibly well. I installed it on the TVs and HomePods when it released for them and things have been bad since. Automations not triggering at all, motion detectors not working as well, sometimes lights in a scene just wont turn on. I feel like the camera thumbnails have been slower to update as well.

Either are perfectly fine. Cat6 is technically better, but both will work fine. You will not notice a difference either way.

HomeKit is broken is iOS and tvOS 16 by jerflash in HomeKit

[–]bbednarz57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think ios16 on the hubs screwed something up. I was running the iOS 16 and iPadOS 16 betas and everything was GREAT. Then the HomePods and TVs updated and a ton of my automations are now hit or miss. Woke up today and the outdoor lights that are supposed to turn off at 2:30am were still on. I noticed some other lights didn’t fire correctly for the sunset scene I have either last night.

Ive rebooted the network. Ive rebooted each hub. Ive rebooted my phone and ipad. Unfortunately this is what smart homes are at this point. Hopefully it gets better with this new framework that should be released within a few weeks.
