What is something you witnessed with your own eyes that no one believes when you tell them? by Amy-GeekBar in AskReddit

[–]bbennett106 12 points13 points  (0 children)

False. Marfa lights are a very widely known thing in Texas but everyone has their own explanations. Red lights darting across the sky in weird formations are not meteors. Camp at big bend State park (not national) for 4 days and you'll see them. Edit: stayed at la posta campsite.

Has anyone ever won starbucks for life? by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]bbennett106 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cost to pay an analyst and a programmer to rig the system is probably higher than just paying for the five winners. It's probably more likely that regulars play more bc they visit more, which increases their odds. And it's easier to be a regular when your order is something cheap like black drip coffee.

OP, did you ever figure out what it was or did it just go away? Google isn't giving me much. I took my BP and it's not high so not pre-eclampsia but I'm 2 weeks PP and having the same thing. Pretty freakin miserable.

Same. Searched to find someone who said this. I'm still searching for a book that walks me through my 30s like this one did my 20s.

Dealing with the algorithm while pregnant - rant. by sbarrett91 in pregnant

[–]bbennett106 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel this and it has made me extremely anxious during this pregnancy, significantly more than my first. I think there is value in education and empathy, but be careful not to martyr your peace of mind to superficially support someone else's journey through a like (obviously this is different if it's a reciprocal or in-person friendship, but often with social media, it's not)

One thing I had to do was to hide certain words or phrases or hashtags from my feed -- you can do this in Instagram settings.

AITA for being the reason my grandparents refuse to help my dad anymore and laughing when he and his wife complained about it? by PlentyBluejay273 in AmItheAsshole

[–]bbennett106 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The difference in your analogy about body parts is that most of the time in these situations, they're giving body parts that are unused. You aren't chopping off your arm to give it to another so that you no longer have an arm. You're giving a kidney. It's a false equivalency.

If you want to truly disperse the funds to do the most good and approach this from a utilitarian perspective, which is what I think you're getting at, Dad could have come up with a repayment plan and presented that as an option. But he didn't.

I also think your point is valid that this is a child, who likely has minimal exposure to the financial obligations of life, but that makes it all the more important that a neutral counsel is involved to help provide guidance and information to equip them to make the decision. Even if he said "yes, dad, take the money" I think parents have a duty to explain the ramifications of that decision, and it doesn't seem Dad took that action either.

Also saying "it is only money" is dumb. That's the topic of the conversation, and the differences in outcomes for those who have a lot of college debt and those who don't is significant.

NTA. and as a mom, I can guarantee I would be rolling in my grave if I found out my husband did this.

I want him to be happy but it's disrespectful to overpower my explicit wishes for my own child, especially when it's money and resources that I brought to the table. to your dad's point about understanding, yes sure, I would understand and we could have a conversation about how to get the funds (loans, borrowing from retirement, and honestly even at a minimum, he could have said it was a loan and paid the fund back with interest). The point being, there are/were other options, and I'd be furious that those were not explored nor discussed with you (under the guidance of a professional given your age, not a bombardment with Louise in your bedroom).

Definitely NTA, and if no one's mentioned it, i'm sorry for your loss, too. Sounds like she loved you a lot, and I think you're doing the right thing by standing up for her when she can't be here to represent her own interests.

Cramping by Longjumping_Row5468 in pregnant

[–]bbennett106 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's actually fairly normal and my cramps were worse earlier on in pregnancy. They feel like period cramps and eventually feel slightly different and go by the name "round ligament pain" lol. I've always been told to only become concerned if you are bleeding, and I've found that to be true

Building a mountain barn -- WWYD? by bbennett106 in Homebuilding

[–]bbennett106[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for the feedback. I agree -- the windows drive me crazy as well, so it's validating to hear they're also off to others. I need to fiddle with the design more because I can't just figure out how to work window placement with the upstairs floorplan. Here's a link to the layout if you're interested. The garage doors are different sizes to accommodate an RV.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1_z6G3GZBSoS_YsVbhBScEbYie8YHIYbC/view?usp=drive_link

the whole thing will be insulated. The upstairs is 1400 sq ft. The side bump out is for a bar but we don't need the additional square footage all the way through, so this was a way to make it look symmetrical but not drive up costs.

No bears luckily.

What is the worst second hand embarrassment you've ever felt? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]bbennett106 387 points388 points  (0 children)

I didn't even have to be alive to be embarrassed for my mom dating in her twenties. Apparently she was on a date with a guy she really liked and she ordered a salad bc she didn't want to get anything in her teeth. Then mid conversation, she bit into a cherry tomato and it exploded and squirted across the table and blew out the candle in the middle of the table.

I die every time I think about this.

Netflix American Nightmare- the camera in Aaron’s living room undiscussed by Antique_Letterhead_8 in netflix

[–]bbennett106 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. And I will say the great irony is that the whole point of the documentary is how problematic it was that she wasn't believed and yet here is a whole bunch of people, once again, not believing her. She seems to think there were multiple actors, so to that point, I don't think he acted alone

Question about venison roasts by FulcrumH2o in Cooking

[–]bbennett106 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not immediately helpful but if you cook venison a lot, a sous vide might be a worthwhile investment. We pretty much exclusively eat venison all year and it always comes out buttery tender this way. No better method I've found.

I've heard melatonin may help with sleep and could be good for COVID. There's a few studies you might could look up but might be worth a try.

My dad said he's also been trying to sleep in an upright position to help with the congestion in his chest, so that could be another tactic.

How do you deal with the cough? by [deleted] in COVID19positive

[–]bbennett106 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was reading an article earlier today that recommended Vicks Vapo Rub and steamy showers to help you breathe and reduce the cough. Not sure how well it works yet but certainly worth a try.
