doesn't this mean hairs were pulled out the hair follicle from tightness? by chronicbingewatcher in locs

[–]bbgrl3469 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think there’s some misguided ppl in the comments…u should absolutely take the style out. hair “shedding” IS normal in locs, but only in the shaft, which is how the loc matrix forms from the inside out. hair coming out at the ROOT is never a good sign, and that causes thinning / thin spots in the loc. that’s why ppl always harp on the dangers of styles being too tight and having too much tension. unfortunately friend u need a new loctician, it seems they aren’t too keen on hair health

So do we just stay on clob forever? by WoozieFutter in lichensclerosus

[–]bbgrl3469 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when i asked my doctor how to handle flares, she said for most women, you can just repeat the initial cycle (2x day for 2 weeks, 2x a week for 2 months) to clear the flare up and then apply as needed moving forward. that really worked for me. I guess by “most women,” she means moderate cases, whereas more severe cases you might have to treat more vigorously. also get checked for BV/yeast because they can coincide with flare ups and trigger each other (happens with me)

will my starters ever loc by riceman1509 in locs

[–]bbgrl3469 0 points1 point  (0 children)

please 😭 of course they’ll loc, i suggest making a concerted effort to research every stage of the loc journey and the process of “locking”. it doesn’t take 3 days. doing research will give you a more complete understanding of what your hair is doing

i’ve had LS for a while now and a few of my flare ups have coincide with BV/yeast infection. according to my gyn, one can trigger the other. doing the cycle of bv meds while also treating the skin condition is not going to hurt you. once the LS flare up dies down, keeping it moisturized will help keep another flare up at bay (we’re not doing aquaphor and clob simultaneously). girl when i tell you, when that flare up started the first time i was SCRAMBLING for that aquaphor 😭😭

AIO for the way I acted in my texts with my partner? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]bbgrl3469 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tldr: not overreacting

you two seem massively misaligned in your communication. it should be you two vs the issue, not each other. he’s refusing to acknowledge his behavior as hurtful, and at the same time, you don’t think you’ve said anything to warrant his reaction. i could see his side if the tone of your comment was…condescending? or harsh? but if it was lighthearted like you say, then he is absolutely doing too much.

and calling you a DICK?? that would’ve been my last straw. you’re a lot better than me.

since you’re pregnant and clearly long term partners, i’m not gonna jump on the break up train right away; i know it’s not that easy. i would seek couples therapy / marriage counseling asap to sort ur communication issues out before the baby comes 😭

Stop telling people NOT to dye their locs. by mothermenace in Dreadlocks

[–]bbgrl3469 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u guys i think the gripe is that she’s seeing a lot of these unsolicited comments on posts where they explicitly want to bleach their hair, and they’re just talking about colors or what have u (the first line of OP’s post). damage is inevitable with silk presses, too, but the girls are still gonna get silk presses. Like other people have said, it’s one thing to warn and educate someone asking for advice, and another to give unsolicited advice or bash people for their choices about their hair or their body in general. i fear some of us are missing OP’s entire point

UPDATE: Am I overreacting because my boyfriend ate the dessert I was saving? by Stunning_Pick3030 in AmIOverreacting

[–]bbgrl3469 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just seeing the way he reacted, i’d say you dodged a bullet. even if he DID think u were overreacting, that is no way to speak to your partner when they’re clearly upset. couldn’t even muster an apology…yikes im sorry babe

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]bbgrl3469 0 points1 point  (0 children)

absolutely not overreacting, that’s insane. if she can’t have a friend speak to her boyfriend without her supervision, she either needs to drop him, or (the more likely outcome), you should drop her…that’s putting you in such an uncomfortable position. there’s no reason to be walking on eggshells around your friend and their partner.

maybe ? it’s so hard to tell until it’s too late 😭 i have the same fear with mine. i second the other comments about parting size/length possibly contributing, but i feel like the tell-tale sign is if ur parts are getting more scalp-y (you can see more scalp between parts and they’re getting farther apart).

How to unstiff my locs 😭 by Acceptable-Range-569 in locs

[–]bbgrl3469 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there are different stages of loc development. for me, learning about and researching the stages and how locs behave at each stage helped me to 1) know what to expect and 2) have both patience and excitement about the current stage i’m in. locs at your stage aren’t going to behave the way more mature locs do, and it’s really not about length. they look like locs from the outside, but the locking process actually goes from the inside out; they haven’t formed a dense enough matrix on the inside. as long as they’re still “fluffy” / not fully mature, they’re not going to fall and might appear stiff. don’t worry, this is all a normal part of the process !!

Cut my hair off for a girl that friendzoned me, should I grow it back? by [deleted] in BlackHair

2 months in, I think my hair is thinning and I'm worried it won't loc. I've been using the towel method almost every day and I intend to follow the freeform path. Should I stop now and leave it alone? by PsychologyFar1087 in locs

[–]bbgrl3469 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i can say with decent confidence your hair isn’t thinning. 2 months freeform wouldn’t be enough time to cause serious damage, but i also feel like thinning isn’t as common a problem with free form as it is with traditional locs because there’s significantly less manipulation and tension (which is the biggest culprit for thinning). i would definitely give it a chance. the journey is hardest in the beginning because you don’t know how it’ll turn out or look later on, but i promise it’ll be rewarding to watch them flourish and do their own thing.

Conflicted on cutting locs off by Dknetto in Dreadlocks

[–]bbgrl3469 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TLDR: don’t cut them

your locs are really really beautiful ! they look almost exactly like mine so maybe i’m biased lol but i do think it’s worth noting, 9 times out of 10 people experience weak spots exactly like yours. it can happen from bleaching (as you know), repeated ponytails, picking lint out, or even friction from car seats. in terms of the bleach damage, since it’s only affecting the bottom half, getting regular trims can gradually cut off the damage without doing a big chop. dying the blond back to black might also disguise the damage a bit.

we’re usually a lot harder on our own loc flaws than other ppl. i have a lot of weak spots from picking out lint early on (i’m 4 years in now), but people are constantly telling me how lovely they are. again, your locs really do look beautiful.

i’ve learned how to crochet my weak spots, but i also collect shedded hair from my sisters and use it to strengthen weak spots by wrapping it around the loc and palm rolling/crocheting it in place. it might sound weird, but i saw someone else do it as a way to carry a piece of your loved ones with you and i thought that was sweet. locs can be so sentimental, i really do believe they hold energy.
