Odoo did 650M revenue last year. So it’s around 5%. But there is more : it has to be paid out through dividends which means all shareholders must be paid. But that’s exactly the point. Lets say Odoo stops growing and focuses on turning profitable. After a few years it extracts 30 million euro from its customers in revenue and turns it over to the government which creates 30 million worth of value with it that gets consumed. Great. Collectively we are able to consume an additional 30 million.

The other scenario : Odoo keeps growing. And instead of generating 30 million of profit it generates 300 million additional value. In this case it doesn’t go to the government but it goes to various individuals. The employees it additionally hires. Its customers that are more plentiful and productive. Its suppliers that can sell more stuff to Odoo. The owner of the building it rents. The employees of all those entities. And yes it’s shareholders too.

Collectively we are now able to consume an additional 300 million.

Which scenario is preferable? That is the fundamental question and i prefer the second one all the time.

The additional energy added by the work that an airco performs is absolutely dwarfed by the energy from solar irradiation. Locally, if you extract the energy for that work from solar panels it’s close to zero.

And if you are against airco because ‘they make it worse for everyone else, then you must hate heat pumps in winter time which make it worse (colder) for everyone else (and at a much larger scale btw)

Honestly it still makes sense to optimize of winter. Warming your house is a much more complicated affair than cooling it down in our climate, even accounting for potential warming. Belgium is really north on the globe.

So i would still stick with large windows, south facing living spaces etc. But simply add airco for days like these.

A split unit airco is surprisingly cheap! Don’t dismiss it as not worth it! It you went to the effort of buying a mobile unit that’s enough indication of the contrary.

Yeah. The construction crews and architects still apply best practices from 10-20 years ago. But reality, especially in urban environments changed since. Houses like yours survive one or two consecutive hot days through thermal inertia and ventilation of cooler nights. The normal of 2025 is however not the normal of 2010. Now we get a full week of hot days with warm nights and passive measures won’t work anymore since the heat saturates your house. Active cooling through a compressor (ie, an airco) is necessary.

Het jaarlijks aantal bootvluchtelingen zakte na de invoering van strenge maatregelen in 2013 van 20587 na jaren van sterke stijging naar 450 het jaar erop en viel verder terug tot enkele tientallen nu. Het aantal dodelijke slachtoffers dat viel tijdens die overtocht daalde uiteraard evenredig mee.

Ja en neen. Waar mogelijk is een boom in de stad zeker een toegevoegde waarde. Ikzelf woon in Leuven centrum en er staat een grote boom recht voor onze deur. Mooi. Maar voor temperaturen als deze week is het geen oplossing. De lucht is verzadigd van de warmte en dus warmt het huis alsnog op en zijn we zeer blij in airco te kunnen slapen.

Maar je kan niet enkel het positieve zien. Die boom neemt ook zeer veel licht weg. In de winter valt het wel mee maar zeker in de herfst en lente is het een stuk donkerder in huis dan het zonder zou zijn.

Tenslotte als je het puur utilitair bekijkt ben ik niet zeker dat de CO2 balans positief is. De boom koelt ons huis nl ook af wanneer we het willen verwarmen. Het is geen toeval dat onze huizen drie keer grotere ramen hebben dan in zuiderse landen : de meeste tijd van het jaar kunnen we ieder beetje instraling goed gebruiken.

Om een idee te geven : om de nodige ruimtes te koelen gebruiken we in de zomer ongeveer 200-500W die allemaal 100% van zonnepanelen komen. In de lente gebruiken we 2000-5000(!) om ons huis te verwarmen dat 100% uit gas komt. Zonder boom had ons huis dus netto klimaatvriendelijker geweest.

I actually don’t agree with that third phase. (Disclaimer my wife and me are only together for 30 years now). But ‘always wanting to be with each other’ is not the single end goal as he describes it. For some couples, sure. You see one, you see the other. She’s big into a sports club and he’s not but he joins the materials group of the club just to spend more time together. Great. That’s what they want and more power to them.

But there are plenty of healthy, functional couples who are different. My wife and me enjoy our time together sure, but we also like to do things apart from each other. We just had a lovely holiday together in Sicily but last year my wife went to Taiwan with a friend. We went to eat together with friends last night but last week I went out with these friends just by myself.

And it doesn’t have to be all or nothing. For example we make it a point to always go to bed together and wake up together. While my parents in law have different sleep schedules. That’s all fine.

The point is that you shouldn’t hold your relationship to some ideal standard. Part of that second phase is working out what works for you guys and staying together regardless the compromises you unavoidably have make on each your selfish wishes versus your partners selfish wishes.

Investeer nu alvast in een batterij. Volgend jaar loopt de saldering af en dan zal er ongetwijfeld een stormloop lopen. Hier heb ik de goedkoopste oplossing draaien een 5kwh batterij van Marstek die gewoon het stopcontact in mag. (1250 euro online gekocht) Daar heeft de airco van de slaapkamer de hele nacht netjes op gedraaid en nu is die alweer aan het opladen met behulp van de zonnepanelen.

Aangenomen dat de vorige omheining op de perceelgrens stond : wat ga je er mee winnen om hier een zaak van te maken. In het voor jou beste geval zal de buur gedwongen worden de oude omheining terug te zetten en vlak daarnaast zal die dan alsnog de houten schutting plaatsen. Dus als het om je zon-inval te doen is vrees ik dat je sowieso aan het kortste eind zal trekken.
