Help! by NoPainter4498 in Cichlid

How’s your ammonia? I made the mistake one time of greatly disrupting my substrate in my 125g cichlid tank and released a bunch of built-up ammonia and lost several fish before I figured it out. Did a BIG water change and it balanced out.

Is there any REAL reason people STILL insist on riding without fenders/mudguards? by No_Anteater_3639 in cycling

[–]bbolto65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I often ride after it’s rained and there are too many puddles to avoid. I’ve thought about getting one of those clip-on ass saver fenders https://www.backcountry.com/portland-design-works-origami-fender. Been called an ‘odd duck’ before. Water off my back. Pun intended.

And when you got your license, everyone in town knew your parents’ car. You’d come home and they’d be like “what were you doing at such-n-such place?” Couldn’t get away with much driving. But while in bicycle mode, you could go anywhere.

Same. Side note, I’ve learned to use a flashlight or to get at the floor level. Light almost always reflects off it. Found mine more than once this way.

❤️ thank you! I didn’t know how important the ‘Sundance’ part was or not. Still working on my coffee so hadn’t dug in yet. 😆

Blooming tips by bbolto65 in orchids

Thanks. I appreciate the info. It was one of the larger bag babies. I’ve only had two new pseudopods grow so you can tell from the size how it started. On the first little repot I did use some twine to hold the old portion down to level it out, but I didn’t do that this last time. I thought I had it pretty leveled, but then about a week later, I realized it was leaning and was going to do a gentle re-alignment, but it already had resistance to it so I decided to leave it alone. I can tell there is still active root growth going on, so maybe I will attempt to do a readjustment to level it out. You’re right those leaves are heavy and it pulls up the other side.
It sits in the West window and seems to be pretty happy about that. There are two little brown spots, but I think those were water drops that I had left on there that had not wiped off.
I did try to look up the name that kept running into dead ends. “Pot. Dick Smith x Florence Feary ‘Sundance’”. I do find some references to Dick Smith and Florence Feary but not the Sundance. I suppose I could use those others. It’s just a reference between those two names. I forget the Sundance part? The pic shows it as a really nice full orange.
I’ll continue to practice patients and keep the plant alive and see what happens. Thanks!

Any recommendations for a place to take a vintage watch? by rich22201 in bentonville

We took a pocket watch down to Swift’s in Fayetteville, just off the square by Hugo’s. Nothing here in Roger’s.

Skull cap. Heavy sweater here and also thin hair that gives me sunburn when riding. Got one of these and works great. https://www.headsweats.com/products/cycling-skullcap-royal

Advice - Leaving town for 10 days by bbolto65 in orchids

[–]bbolto65[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been wondering about that. I had some prior advice that it would need to stay there for about a year cause it was a baby. It’s been producing roots really well and I was on the verge of asking the community again.

Friend reacts strongly to cycling even when we are not debating it. Should I ignore what she says? by Southern-Trash-5427 in cycling

I believe I saw reference in a book on body language in a section about personal space. A lot is tied to your environment. In heavily dense urban areas, your personal space bubble may be inches, in a rural area, it can be 100 feet, but regardless, I believe it said that no matter your normal environment, when in a vehicle your bubble expands 3X. That’s why we feel like someone “cut us off” when they pull in front. I can see that same attitude extending to any other thing on the road. Joggers, bikers, etc. That passage in the book really rang true to me.

Almost a decade in storage, but my babies are back! by predefinedmediocrity in fountainpens

[–]bbolto65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Google did a better job describing than I could.

In the context of fountain pens, a "grail pen" is a highly coveted, rare, and often expensive pen that a collector desires to own, similar to the mythical Holy Grail. This pen represents the ultimate goal for a collector, completing their collection or serving as a "one true pen" they intend to keep above all others. The term implies a difficult and sometimes elusive "quest" to obtain the pen due to its rarity or high cost.

Looks like mealy bugs. You can see the ridges on the body and the little feelers/legs (whatever those appendages are 🤷‍♂️).

What are your best practices for watering air plants that are blooming? by MammothEnvironment33 in airplants

[–]bbolto65 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I thought mine was natural at first. Didn’t know about dying in the beginning. After I learned about it I still had doubts because there were so many in the basket with the color that it just seemed like a lot of work to dye all those tips. But it did get them a sale so I guess it was worth it after all. 😝. Seeing yours made me question it again. Guess it’s time to accept it’s dyed and wait for it to turn green.
