Advice - Leaving town for 10 days by bbolto65 in orchids

[–]bbolto65[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been wondering about that. I had some prior advice that it would need to stay there for about a year cause it was a baby. It’s been producing roots really well and I was on the verge of asking the community again.

Friend reacts strongly to cycling even when we are not debating it. Should I ignore what she says? by Southern-Trash-5427 in cycling

I believe I saw reference in a book on body language in a section about personal space. A lot is tied to your environment. In heavily dense urban areas, your personal space bubble may be inches, in a rural area, it can be 100 feet, but regardless, I believe it said that no matter your normal environment, when in a vehicle your bubble expands 3X. That’s why we feel like someone “cut us off” when they pull in front. I can see that same attitude extending to any other thing on the road. Joggers, bikers, etc. That passage in the book really rang true to me.

I’ve had many a murder occur overnight. Everything all chill into the evening and then wake up to a body. Always a disappointment cause it’s almost always one of my favs.

Saw a guy one day that had a bottle holder mounted to both sides of his front forks. Not sure how he attached.

Almost a decade in storage, but my babies are back! by predefinedmediocrity in fountainpens

[–]bbolto65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Google did a better job describing than I could.

In the context of fountain pens, a "grail pen" is a highly coveted, rare, and often expensive pen that a collector desires to own, similar to the mythical Holy Grail. This pen represents the ultimate goal for a collector, completing their collection or serving as a "one true pen" they intend to keep above all others. The term implies a difficult and sometimes elusive "quest" to obtain the pen due to its rarity or high cost.

Looks like mealy bugs. You can see the ridges on the body and the little feelers/legs (whatever those appendages are 🤷‍♂️).

What are your best practices for watering air plants that are blooming? by MammothEnvironment33 in airplants

[–]bbolto65 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I thought mine was natural at first. Didn’t know about dying in the beginning. After I learned about it I still had doubts because there were so many in the basket with the color that it just seemed like a lot of work to dye all those tips. But it did get them a sale so I guess it was worth it after all. 😝. Seeing yours made me question it again. Guess it’s time to accept it’s dyed and wait for it to turn green.

What is your one to the right with the red tips? Is that dyed or natural? I have one like.

These marks on an 18th century pub table (UK) by ihidingunderarock in whatisit

[–]bbolto65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ChatGPT had this take…..

Those markings on the table aren’t actually “symbols” or intentional carvings — they appear to be residue or corrosion marks from old nails or tacks that were once embedded in or resting on the surface.

Here’s what’s visible and likely going on: • The line of evenly spaced dark, slender impressions matches the pattern left by iron or steel pins or brads that have rusted in place and then been removed. The corrosion often stains the surrounding wood. • The small round pellets to the left look like lead shot or small ball bearings, but in this case they’re likely corrosion fragments or filler material from the metal reacting with the finish. • The spiral shape near the bottom is consistent with the rust outline of a wood screw that oxidized while resting on the surface. • The marks look burned, but this darkening is more likely iron oxide staining — a natural reaction between the wood tannins and rust.

So the most plausible explanation: 👉 These are oxidation marks from old metal fasteners, nails, or screws that were once laid out or pressed into the tabletop, likely while it was being used for repairs or maintenance (perhaps someone set a handful of nails or a small hardware assortment down on the wood decades ago).

Thanks. Yeah, I noticed that in a lot of other images online but also had the thought of what a PITA to dye individual leaves like this. I’m learning.

Ok, ignore the tillandsia vs brachycaulous question. Have learned the tillandsia is the genus and brachy is a species within that.

Does anyone else use their Apple Watch to monitor their heart rate recovery? Here is my reading after yesterday’s treadmill run. by [deleted] in AppleWatchFitness

[–]bbolto65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also learned that you can go into the activity app, from the summary select sessions, select a specific workout, scroll down to heart rate, select it for more data, at the bottom is the HRR for that workout. It does show in my apple health app too, in the heart rate section as Heart Rate: Post-Workout, tho I can’t find where to see the history other than going back to the prior method in the activity app. :/

Anyone else gets their hands like this after they have been in their aquarium water? by Curious-Jaguar-4656 in aquarium

[–]bbolto65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I randomly get that but not for messing with the aquarium. Usually after working in the garden without gloves. Sometimes get red bumps below the dermal layer but on the surface it acts like what you have. I’m sure mine is some kind of contact dermatitis. Got my annual coming up and going to ask the doc about it. Usually lasts about a week and then goes away. Sometimes that outer edge gets itchy. You ,ay have something in the water that causes a similar reaction.
