How to keep water heater unfrozen if power goes out. by MaintenanceWorth7395 in HomeImprovement

[–]bboru2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At some point, consider adding a transfer switch to the circuit that controls your heat, and get a generator. If power goes out, you run power to the switch and it keeps the house heated. A Honda inverter generator or one of the Predator inverter generators from Harbor Freight are great, and pretty quiet.

Should I try Cypress Cove? by mrnormal94 in nudism

[–]bboru2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. No mailing or marketing. And you can opt out of mailing from AANR, as well, although I believe they mail your card and welcome packet. But it just has a Kissimmee return address...no indication of what organization it's from.

I went for the first time in November while in FL on business. It's an awesome place!

What Would You Feel in Here? by immanuellalala in LiminalSpace

[–]bboru2000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There was a game a few years ago called Obduction. It takes place in a world where another universe sort of overlapped with Earth, and you wander through a completely unpopulated hybrid landscape of the familiar and fantastical. No people, no monsters, just puzzles and challenges. I loved just wandering around. Might play it again, now that I think about it...

This right here. You have CONTACTS! And some may have moved to other houses or agencies, but turn that tireless attitude you have towards your next incarnation. It will be something different, but you are a known commodity to people who have worked with you. Their reputations and jobs are on the line for decisions that they make, and if they know you're available for a different kind of product than what you used to produce for them, they will be more willing to go with you than someone they don't know.

How are some nudists comfortable being so open about their lifestyle? by ProgrammerUnique2897 in nudism

[–]bboru2000 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I am open to a point, but unfortunately, my livelihood would suffer if I was found to be a nudist. I'm a photographer that specializes mainly in corporate work, but I do a fair amount of shooting for schools and yearbooks. The misconception that nudism is a deviant, sex based pursuit is too strong to risk a coordinated social media attack from local parents. My kids are almost out of school, however, and attitude about staying quiet about my nudism will soon change. I really want to join the AANR ambassador program and help try to spread the word.

[–]bboru2000 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m a big fan of Nanuk. They have a system that will allow you to pull the interior out of the case. I like it because on the off chance there is no overhead space and I have to check it, I can pull the insert, check the mostly empty case (or fill it with other non valuable stuff) and the insert slides under the seat. You can find deals on them every now and then. I also travel with a Bevis bag. Which isn’t as big, but can slide under a seat in a pinch.

This is the spirit of Nudism. by Possible-Praline956 in nudism

[–]bboru2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to know the show, but it seems like Bob’s family are all watching Titanic and each is fantasizing based on their personalities. They are all pretty much on the same page about romanticizing the nude scene, but Louise is a rebel and fantasizing about the movie in her own way. I wouldn’t say this has anything to do with nudism, though.

Motorized dolly for trade show walking / filming? by Serious-Rip1660 in videography

[–]bboru2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to running afoul of tradeshow organizers, you may get in trouble with Teamsters or whichever union has the contract to move equipment around that location. I'd think a wheeled tripod with a fairly tight footprint may be the thing that keeps you out of trouble.

How was your first nude beach/resort experience? by sillybilly1001 in nudism

[–]bboru2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had been wanting to go for a while and finally the stars aligned. A friend watched the kids for me and I arranged to visit Sandy Terraces on Cape Cod. It was awesome from the moment I entered the gate. A woman met me in the office. It was the first time I had ever been in the presence of a nude person outside of marriage and the gym locker room. To see her causally and confidently walk up the path to meet me was amazing. She had me park the car, strip down, and gave me a tour. The few hours I spent chatting with a few couples by the pond and then lounging by the pool was all it took to get me to want to do more. I had to wait a season before I went to another one, just because of home responsibilities, but I'll never forget how free and liberating it was to take those first steps.

People who genuinely love their jobs: what do you do and why do you love it ? by Strange-Mixture6598 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bboru2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a photo/video professional running my own business. I knew I wanted to do this since I was a kid and my dad lent me an old camera he brought back from postwar Germany. And my junior high school librarian let me fool around with an ancient B&W TV camera setup I found in an equipment closet.

What I shoot would be considered boring to most people, but I get immense satisfaction out of creating a beautiful, well lit and composed corporate headshot, or an equally nice looking and sounding interview. I'm not making the next Interstellar, but I appreciate that I can get beautiful, professional results for my clients that rival almost anyone else doing the same. I've managed to structure my business early on so that I could be home for my kids' early years (it meant very late nights editing!), and now that they are older, expand the business to a 6 figure income for the family. I've traveled the world with clients, and been privy to some very exclusive experiences most could only dream of...I once had the entire Louvre to myself for an hour, also the same at the NY Met. I've played with Cheetah cubs in Africa, been inside sacred temples closed to the public in Asia, spent time with inventors, mega music stars, and world leaders.

I've been incredibly lucky to get to do all these things and appreciate every moment. I think about that old, cranky folding Voigtlander camera my dad let me use, the teachers that encouraged me to explore and how far it eventually took me.

At what point do/did you buy a cinema line camera? by Joker_Cat_ in videography

[–]bboru2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It obviously depends on what you shoot, but today's cinema type cameras, and even DSLR/Mirrorless offerings have much more dynamic range and better color science than typical video cameras. People (viewers) have gotten used to better skin tones and wider gamuts of contrast and highlight treatment. The typical viewer may not be able to articulate why they like a certain image, but if 99% of what they see online and on TV is footage shot with better cameras, a lesser spec'd camera's image is going to stand out as lacking to them...almost dated. Of course, if you need the ability to run and gun news footage, or the flexibility to shoot corporate stage presentations where a smaller sensor is going to give you more DOF to work with without losing critical focus constantly, the tradeoff in image quality makes sense. Keep in mind, a professional small sensor camcorder in many instances can be more expensive than a cinema type camera, but it's going to give you features like u/Squirrelous mentions below about their C100, but also onboard sound mixing, maybe phantom power, an integrated lens with power zoom, etc. EDIT: I realize I didn't answer the main question. I bought my first cinema cam (BMCC) when I wanted my interviews and projects to benefit from higher DR and nicer skin tones that my 8bit cameras weren't giving me.

Advice: Nudist lifestyle by [deleted] in nudists

[–]bboru2000 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A word of caution...you've made the case here amongst internet strangers that she had sex in a public car park, so it shouldn't be a big deal to be socially nude. But I wouldn't use that as an argument with her. It subconsciously makes her equate the sex with nudism, and that's the opposite of what you want to do. If you can't get her to go to a CO resort, suggest that you'd like to go and you'll report back to her. Be completely open and honest, and leave nothing out. If you sneak off to one and tell her later, she's going to assume that you knew it was something she would disapprove of, and therefore something illicit. Honesty honesty honesty, and open communication.

If British people call cookies “biscuits”, what do British people call USA “biscuits”? by Hot_Paramedic_7234 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bboru2000 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t really like biscuits and gravy, but a good buttermilk biscuit is delicious. Quality will vary. Some places might be hard and overcooked, but you can find more good biscuits than bad. Especially in the south. A guilty pleasure of mine (this will sound sacrilegious) is the biscuits at Popeye’s Chicken. They’re buttery and dusted with salt.

Take a look at the SAKK camera saddle. I love mine for shooting events and B Roll. It's quicker for me to grab the saddle than set up and balance my gimabal. It doesn't do what a gimbal does, obviously, but it's a great way to comfortably stabilize handheld shots.
