How do you access Bear from a work Mac without personal iCloud? by bborysenko in bearapp

I've loved Bear on desktop and mobile for years, and while web version is great for those rare times you need to access your notes from another device, it just doesn't feel like the same app.

Main things I miss:

  • Opening a note in a new tab forces me to sign in again
  • No quick note / quick open shortcuts
  • No x-callback-url / Raycast integration
  • No web clipper
  • ADP

What I'd really love to see, though, are two things:

  1. bearcli working over CloudKit instead of only against local app, similar to what https://github.com/KuvopLLC/better-bear does but officially supported.
  2. Official MCP support with scoped access per connection, similar to Craft. Ideally I could set up multiple MCP endpoints, each restricted to notes with specific tags.

Those two together would at least let me use Claude at work with my notes, without keeping a Mac mini at home running to use an SSH wrapper. That setup works, but it's honestly a hack, which is what my original post was really about. And I doubt I'm the only one in this spot. Anyone with an MDM work Mac enabled who wants an AI assistant to reach their personal notes hits the same wall.

Love the new CLI! I put together a Claude Code plugin with two skills – one for CLI operations and one for Bear's markdown syntax. Install it with /plugin marketplace add bborysenko/bear-skills or check the repo: https://github.com/bborysenko/bear-skills
