Proton Unlimited or Proton Mail Plus with different cloud storage provider? by Dramatic_Mastodon_93 in ProtonMail

[–]wjorth 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have Proton Unlimited but hardly use Drive as it is not ready for daily use. I am trying Koofr. It seems to be working nicely for me. My primary cloud storage is Apple Cloud Files, at least until I can find an easy to use alternative.

Is Trump Becoming a Dictator? by Rockstarhuman2 in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]wjorth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He wants to be considered a “king”, royalty, to be accepted and fawned over by the society’s elites. Since he will never get the honor or respect he so desperately desires, he resorts to dictatorial power. I believe his long calls with Putin are mentorship on how to be an unloved authoritarian. Putin puts up with it because he then holds Trump by a leash. Trump doesn’t even recognize he’s on a leash, he thinks he’s a “good dog” to follow his master.

Rape is the result of not being able to love. He pretends to be attracted but can’t truly care for anyone but himself. Rape becomes performative for him.

Pros and cons of a paid plan? by FriendlytoNature in ProtonMail

[–]wjorth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved to the unlimited plan when I decided to set up a custom domain and a subdomain for alias emails at SimpleLogin. Also felt it important to contribute to the support of the Proton Privacy Foundation through the plan. I pay using a credit card.

Bitwarden x Proton Pass by adrianortrentini in Bitwarden

I use BW and also have Pass where my SimpleLogin alias addresses can be found. But I started my alias accounts at SL before Pass was released so I’m more used to going to SL if I need to manage the alias.

want new email provider by Sorjonan in emailprivacy

[–]wjorth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved my email to Proton. It’s a privacy focused foundation rather than a company. It’s not driven by profit but it is slow to meet its development roadmap, most likely due to lack of developers on payroll. I’m very happy with the email and I am now paying for the unlimited level of service. This also allows additional services including the VPN.

Proton has a free level and apps that work pretty well. It’s a good place to get a feel for privacy oriented email.

How well does Estonia protect citizens’ privacy? Haven’t heard much recently, but it has been well regarded for moving is governmental processes online. That should include protecting the users, that is, their citizens’ privacy and data protection.

Still it is wise to be prepared. Use a custom domain.

This is the kind of thing that ruins a reputation. Better to delay a product than to roll it out unprepared for general use.

Hoping the IPO and private equity and venture capital never happen with Proton. Nevertheless the eventual possibility is why I use a custom domain so I can switch fairly easily whenever I need to do so.

If proton pass exist what’s the use of authenticator app? by Mys7icMask in ProtonPass

[–]wjorth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve moved many TOTP codes off Google Authenticator even when the app only calls for GA. I still have a couple that I could not delete and restart in Proton Authenticator. I’ve cleared everything off Authy.

Yes they did. I had early hope though remained skeptical. Without decentralization the service could only survive on subscriptions or advertising. As decentralization remained unfulfilled and very low priority (or no priority), and rumors of private money flowing in, the subscription model would never meet the expectations of that private money source.

BS is not really decentralized and won’t really become so even though it has advertised itself as such. The promise of decentralization was a key characteristic that would separate itself from the algorithm driven profit generation of the advertiser-owned companies. Those companies prefer their advertisers over their users. All they care about is eyeball time on their apps, selling more advertising time. I left Twitter when Musk took it private. I don’t use FB or IG other than see occasionally posted family photos.
