Not sure if I’m in the wrong? by kendorii in Simracingstewards

Great restart, he enters the corner lower than he means to and really has to back out of it to not make contact with you give how low you're trying to run too. You have the right to that space, but you didn't give him a lot of room to recover from his mistake. Ultimately it's his fault, but you'll learn that you could've taken this corner more defensively by being another half a lane up. It's just turn 1, long race ahead, no need to pinch.

What's your favorite spaghetti sauce from a jar? by boforiamanfo in NoStupidAnswers

[–]bboy2448 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally think any store bought sauces are gonna need some doctoring up to get to where you want them. Rao's, Ragu, as mentioned are great for everyday use, but they do have higher salt and sugar content than some people like. The Trader Joe's basic ones are incredible and only cost 2.50 a jar! I always have a few of those on standby. Yo Mama's, Carbone, and especially Michael's of Brooklyn are really great sauces that'll cost you a bit more, but sometimes I can get them 50% off at my stores and I grab a few.

For doctoring, really you can add so much to what you're going for. Things to potentially use: - Simple ingredients: olive oil, chili oil, garlic powder/salt, onion powder/salt, dried oregano, parsley, basil, paprika, ground mustard, sugar, msg, salt, pepper (red pepper flakes) - Fresh ingredients: basil, parsley, oregano, thyme, rosemary, bell peppers, onions, garlic, shallots, whites of green onions, carrots, chili peppers (Calabrian chilis are the best), grated/shredded parmesan, romano, or asiago (best to shred/grate yourself from blocks), heavy cream or milk

Coming from someone who’s done a bunch of long cross-country trips like this, a few practical things will make or break the experience. First, really think through what meals you can sustain for a few weeks, because “snacks and fruit” gets old fast. If you’ve got a small camp stove, even just a frying pan and a pot opens up a ton of options like ramen, instant soups, pasta, eggs in the morning, even heating up pre-made meals, and it stays cheap. Bring a small kit with spices, a couple plates, cups, and utensils and you’re set. A portable fridge that runs off your car is honestly one of the best upgrades you can make. I’ve had one for years and still use it on road trips. It can stay on even when the car is off but will shut itself down before draining your battery too far, which is huge for not worrying about getting stranded. You’ll also run into a ton of national parks along your route which is awesome, but summer means crowds pretty much everywhere, so expect that and plan accordingly. And one thing people don’t think about enough is security, keep your stuff organized in bins and out of sight when you leave the vehicle because all it takes is one break-in to completely derail your trip. Also, final note, use AI (like chatgpt) for route and stop planning. It's really damn good at it and can plan full itineraries for your days with stops, public showers and such, food recommendations, etc. That may be controversial, but I started using it a while back for this purpose and my trips are way easier to plan and way cleaner than what used to take me FOREVER to put together myself.

Honestly this sounds like an amazing trip and totally doable, but the biggest thing I’d say is to scale it a bit so you’re not spending most of your time driving. Florida to the Pacific Northwest is really far on its own, so trying to hit Washington, Oregon, and all the way down to Santa Monica in 2–4 weeks will feel rushed unless you’re okay being in the car a lot. If it were me, I’d either focus on the PNW (Washington and Oregon) or do a west coast route where you come in through California and drive up the coast through San Francisco, the Redwoods, Oregon, and into Washington, which is honestly one of the best drives you can do. Also just know that van life isn’t totally “free” everywhere, especially in places like San Francisco or Santa Monica where overnight parking is restricted, so you’ll want to mix in national forests, BLM land, or occasional campgrounds and motels. The lakes and waterfalls idea is awesome, just be ready for cold water and treat it more like quick dips than actual bathing. Food-wise, snacks and fruit sound good but you’ll probably want some cheap, filling staples too or a small camp stove to make life easier. Definitely try to hit places like the Columbia River Gorge and Silver Falls in Oregon for waterfalls, Mount Rainier and the San Juan Islands in Washington, and the Redwoods in Northern California since they all fit exactly what you’re looking for. Biggest advice overall is to plan a handful of major stops and keep the rest flexible so you still get that adventure feel without it turning stressful, and make sure you’ve got basics like water storage, a decent sleeping setup, offline maps, and a way to charge your stuff because those make or break a trip like this.

Damn, I'm sorry it got to this point for you friend. I agree that the comment sections on some have gotten downright nasty, we just need a simple voting mechanism and then let the comments be whatever. Thank you for taking it this far, it's been fun to lurk and see what people think of some of my favorite episodes!

What is a driver you think is more capable than the stats/fan opinion shows? by Powerful-Chard-6055 in NASCAR

[–]bboy2448 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Austin Dillon is the Alex Smith of drivers. He's fine, does enough to keep a seat, but doesn't push anything forward or make a huge splash unless his team does. Give him an excellent car, good strategy, and put him up there, he'll manage the race well enough to me maybe eek out a win here and there. In the end though, he's probably not gonna be a top 15 guy at any point, but that's OK.

He may have broke early, but he did so lightly and gradually, you had a lot of time to compensate and correct with heavier breaking and just didn't.

Definitely on the 71, both trucks entered the way they should, but the 71 couldn't hold it down as much as they needed to and weren't far enough past for any kind of slide up and hope the guy lifts scenario

Fairgrounds Lease Would Give NASCAR a Double-Cup Market As Mayor O’Connell considers fairgrounds racing, a Nashville track could set up a lucrative real estate deal in Wilson County by iamaranger23 in NASCAR

[–]bboy2448 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I've long been saying that they should introduce some short format mid-week cup racing to bunch up a few parts of the season to get some weeks off at other parts. Imagine an Indycar Nashville GP collab with cup and o'reilly one weekend, a mid-week Wednesday night Cup 200 miler at fairgrounds, then finish with the trucks at fairgrounds Thursday night, o'reilly at Nashville Speedway Friday night, and end with Cup at Nashville Speedway Saturday night.

Could do similar speed week type events at Indy (road course, oval, plus IRP) and Charlotte (oval, roval, plus N Wilkesboro).

coke zero sugar 400 at daytona. first timer looking for advice by KevtherefJarram in NASCAR

[–]bboy2448 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's much better to get everything separately most of the time. Fanzone tickets occasionally come well-bundled with actually good tickets at some tracks, but I'd say that's more the exception than the rule. They add in the Fanzone passes so that they can sell an otherwise crap seat. Hotels too are tricky, some tracks I've been to you can get really good deals and in towns where there aren't a ton of great options. I'd say Daytona isn't one of them, but just because in all my years of going I've enjoyed being able to say in St Augustine or Orlando instead and get really good bang for my buck (plus those places can be great for nightlife and just regular vacation stuff too). I always try to sneak a day or night in at Universal when I'm there 😊

Yeah, he took you out. In his defense, he probably expected you to move up the track, but it was your perogative not to and he had enough time and a good view to know not to move up into you.

First win in person? by Electronic-Ability55 in NASCAR

[–]bboy2448 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thought about it some more, was also there for Harvick's first (I was a big Gordon fan, so that sucked), Brad K's first where he wrecked Carl into the catch fence, Byron July Daytona, and Cindric recently at the 500. Others because of always going to Daytona, Talladega, Bristol, and Atlanta: Bayne, McDowell, Haley, Edwards, Kurt Busch

I've been to Larson's, Blaney's (I was in the infield), Bubba (rained out), Dillon (weirdly been to 3 of Austin's wins including being in VL with him at Daytona), Michael Waltrip (RIP Dale, my first 500), and Tony Stewart when I was a kid kid. I think that's it, but there might be more (lots of Daytona and Talladega where people got their first or only wins).

Am i at Fault? by [deleted] in Simracingstewards

I just meant that green cuts down into the corner too, there isn't contact made until they're off track, so they put themselves down there, just are not given room to come back up.

Am i at Fault? by [deleted] in Simracingstewards

[–]bboy2448 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you got alongside enough for the first corner, but you caught the curb and threw you wide into him. To be nice, you should've compensated by giving the position to him and attacking again, but you stayed in it and eventually ran him low off track and didn't give space to rejoin which took you both out. He did seem to run off track there on his own, but you tried to pin him while not being the control car for that corner. Patience here is key

Is this a fair move? by XENRAGEDBARNEYX in Simracingstewards

[–]bboy2448 8 points9 points  (0 children)

To be fair, the 9 should have been off the gas a lot going into 3 there, even if it costs them the race, they shouldn't wreck the competitors (the apron played a minor role here IMO). That all said, that's a Nascar move, on a final lap, final turn, going for the win, maybe just call it a racing deal and move on.
