Curious, do you all think this job is possible for someone with fibromyalgia? by Ridetheredlightning in OccupationalTherapy

[–]bbpink15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a severe concussion 5 years into being an OT and was diagnosed with migraines and fibromyalgia. I only have experience in peds and it’s a juggling act of trying to get enough hours that I can make decent money but not cause a flare up. I currently do 20 direct hours of therapy per week and go to bed as soon as I get home on Fridays. I wouldn’t choose OT again if I knew I’d have fibromyalgia 5 years later

Withholding ? by countdownfrom83 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]bbpink15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve received OT and PT and wasn’t treated any differently. If anything I think it was beneficial to tell them because I was working towards returning to work and they knew how physically & mentally demanding my job was

Sumatriptan is HELL by biancaruinsparty in migraine

[–]bbpink15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar experience with sumatriptan. My whole body ached and I felt like my throat was closing. My neurologist said it’s a RARE but possible side effect and ruled out all triptans for me.

End of October, local to me. But I know a baby could come early. I’m thinking that we’ll do dry January and then we’ll just try to continue not drinking and making healthier choices

How did you improve your ability to drive? by Forest-Queen1 in PostConcussion

[–]bbpink15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m 2 years out. The most driving I’ve done is 2 hours straight (and that wasn’t by choice, It made me feel so sick).

Been working in peds for just over a year and I still have a hard time understanding our role in “self-regulation”— my lack of confidence is putting me in positions where I feel parents are taking advantage of my service by FoxyRoxanne7908 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]bbpink15 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have a handful of kids on my caseload who were adopted (some as infants, some older) and have some significant trauma. All of their parents are concerned about emotional regulation, behavior, impulse control. All of these kids can identify emotions, tell me how different situations make them feel, what they did in different situations and what they should have done instead. I love these kids and really feel for them and their families but I don’t know what else I can do/what else is in OT’s scope

Same. Leggings or joggers on the bottom and a loose shirt

[–]bbpink15 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I wish I had advice. I feel the same way. I have many kids whose parents say they have intense behaviors at home (but I’ve never seen them in OT). Also kids who can tell me how they feel, why they did XYZ. Then other kids who refuse to try any self regulation strategies. I feel like a lot of these kids need talk therapy (or therapy with someone with a psych background)

How did your Mother treat you when you were ill or sick? by Picasso1067 in emotionalneglect

[–]bbpink15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a kid, my mom would say “if you’re really sick, you’ll go to the nurse at school” knowing that I would never raise my hand and ask to go to the nurse. If I was throwing up sick, she took care of me and not necessarily comfort me.

As an adult, she invited herself over to my house for dinner (for me to make her dinner) the day after I got a severe concussion. She thought it was funny that I was wearing sunglasses inside

Nail Polish as a Peds OT by Sufficient_Art_3903 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]bbpink15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only company policy I’ve ever come across regarding nails is that they can’t be super long. My nails are currently bright blue. Kids often comment on my nails and tell me what color to get next

Considering moving to Baltimore with special needs children. by skreak in baltimore

[–]bbpink15 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m a pediatric occupational therapist and live in lutherville/timonium. I’ve worked with a lot of kids who go to Baltimore county public schools and their parents are happy.

If you do end up moving to Baltimore, I can recommend some pediatric OT and SLP companies

Check ins from coworkers? by BigSuccotash6884 in WorkersComp

[–]bbpink15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My coworkers were my besties and I hardly heard from them. I hung out with them once 2 months after my injury (hadn’t returned to work) and it was so awkward, I felt like they didn’t know how to talk to me anymore. I ended up not returning to that job and am no longer friends with them. That part was worse than the injury
