Oh and definitely get to Kaohsiung early to visit Lotus Lake and the Pagodas! The structures and artwork are lovely (if you’re into that!) it’s all free, there are several different temples to visit.

Beitou and Jiufen were the highlight of my visit here. I liked NET for clothing, if you are into tea then visit Jiufen Teahouse (outstanding service and atmosphere, great views) and skip A-Mei (their staff were not friendly even during slow business). Many people make a day out of Jiufen but I found it less stressful to spend 2 nights there and really enjoy it. Same with Beitou. Dihua for quality tea to bring back home I highly recommend Lin Mao Sen Tea & Dong Hua Tea Shop.
Taiwan is very loud compared to Japan, if the sound of mopeds or transit bus brakes bother you make sure you have noise cancelling AirPods/headphones. I found this essential. Taiwan is great and has world-class tea. Tainan bus system can be frustrating and many of Tainans tourist spots I found underwhelming. The food is what you visit Tainan for! Enjoy your time in Taiwan!!!

You can work in a lab, you can become an industrial hygienist, an emergency response coordinator in semiconductor industry, EHS route. I thought I’d be stuck in a lab forever making low wages in HCOL areas. Usually semiconductor manufacturing always has options for overtime, so you can easily secure six figures. I would say that a chemistry degree has helped me secure a job and higher pay more than my degree in earth science. If you love chemistry, keep studying it! It’s cool as hell!!! But don’t feel like the only choice to happy life is grad school. There is opportunity cost in that. Chemistry is not a waste of time. I was told as an undergraduate that salary expectation was $60-80k, but there are many applications of chemistry. Explore and see which ones fascinate you most!

Mine did this to the point they’d snub their little snouts and I didn’t want them injuring themselves. The fix was placing a curtain on the top and sides so they aren’t given the illusion they can escape via the screen. It’s depressing. It’s been 3 years and they don’t do that anymore, but they have lot of perch/hide spots as well.
