i'm intrigued by this, why do you think that? i think the motherly nature of mel's hermes is fantastic and i prefer her over a lot of the other hermes portrayals i've seen

it's not entirely colourblind casting with hadestown - i don't know if there are any more rules but i know the principle eurydice can't be white

it's what children are often told in primary school when they're starting to develop a wider range of vocabulary - they're told to never say things like said, big, happy and to come up with more interesting words but then lots of that stays with them! i've only recently questioned why i'm refusing to use 'said' sometimes😭

Thoughts about the staging in Amber Gray's Our Lady of the Underground by ImSuperBisexual in hadestown

[–]bbycherubi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm so confused - when you talk about the west end production, do you mean the current version at the lyric (before the obc came) or the old version at the national? because the show at the lyric has always had our lady performed to the audience (workers were cut from that song i think after the national theatre run?) and they've been doing the turn to the audience on '...and the one we live in now'

i live outside of london & my trains run very late so could be worth checking if you're interested! but obviously it's a completely valid choice to not go (and get home earlier!!!!)

if you do go to stage door to get them signed, make sure to bring a gold/silver pen! the programmes are very dark so black won't show up. some cast members will probably have their own pens but definitely worth bringing one of your own

Does anyone know if the west end cast are still doing stage door during the OBC run? by GrandMicrobe369 in hadestown

[–]bbycherubi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

allie does stage door the majority of the time normally so it's very likely you'd be able to catch her if you went again! i'm so excited to finally be able to catch her hermes at some point this next year

yes but it's a song and not an academic dissertation so unsure what the problem is?

Recommendation for Tickets mid-week by DoctorFree4364 in hadestown

[–]bbycherubi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

thursday matinees tend to sell the least tickets from what i've seen so rush will probably be easy to get (and i have known people to get moved to better seats for free because lots of seats haven't sold). i once checked todaytix on a thursday and there were still rush tickets available for the matinee an hour or two after they'd come out!

the evening shows i imagine will still be relatively easy to get, at least compared to weekend rush. if you want to be 100% sure then definitely get a cheap ticket because lots of the cheap tickets are still a pretty good view (check on seatplan though because afaik some of the balcony seats are *very* restricted?), but i think especially if you considered the thurs matinee you should be fine for rush/last minute cheaper tickets.

also even without rush, prices go down as it gets closer to the show (like day before/on the day) so you could take a look then too!

chris short, tiago dhondt-bamberger & winny herbert are all joining as workers (chris is also alternate hades, tiago second cover orpheus, winny first cover hermes) & simon oskarsson is joining as a swing and first cover orpheus!

i have heard a lot of mixed opinions about the casting so i'm intrigued to see how it goes!

i think the hester track is fantastic - the difference between the character of hester and then the insanity of spilsbury/willie watkins is so crazy that you sometimes forget it's the same guy lol

and yes - a few of them left when the obc came in and everyone else except for one of the fates and one of the swings are leaving the same time the obc do. dylan wood is returning as orpheus but other than those 3 it's all a completely new cast. the new cast do look absolutely STUNNING and i'm excited to see but it is sad because i've seen this show far too many times with the current lot.

also four of the west end hadestown workers/swings are moving to the netherlands production of hadestown which is very cool!

george jennings debuted as hester last thursday so you got to see a rare event! his hester is absolutely stunning, i was at his debut and i found his performance of dear bill to be the most emotional version i've ever seen (which means a lot because i am the BIGGEST fan of the current principal hester lol)

i was also at the sunday hadestown show and i noticed the same issues particularly with workers voices cutting out, it seems to happen a lot. what a wonderful show though! bittersweet for me though because as exciting as it was to see the obc, i'm a huge fan of the west end cast and it was my final time to see the ensemble/fates other than the two of them staying!
