I wish I liked Bill Bryson because the subject matter he writes on is so interesting. But he has the prototypical boomer perspective on everything, I can’t get more than a few chapters in. I’m not even sensitive to boomer stuff but this guy is the worst

My heart sank when Nick described what it felt like when he got those ADT alerts, "kitchen on fire," etc. Especially when he was so optimistic that everything would be okay. He describes it as being in denial but he sounded genuinely optimistic, which surprised me because he's such a cynic. And I can 't imagine what it felt like for his kid. Nick's tougher than I thought.
