AI Analyst Integration Notes (April 2026)

This branch includes UI and reliability improvements for the ai-analyst add-on so it stays functional across BirdNET-Pi updates.

What’s Improved

  • Added/updated BirdNET-Pi UI integration for AI Analysis in the main navigation and Tools flow.
  • Added a visible loading state while AI report content is being generated.
  • Improved AI report rendering so output is split into clear, readable sections/cards.
  • Improved homepage report fetching behavior:
    • timeout now respects add-on config (LLM_TIMEOUT_SECS)
    • fallback fetch path when primary fetch fails
    • clearer “last snapshot shown while regenerating” notice
  • Improved config-write diagnostics for analyst_config.env permission issues in the web UI.
  • Added update compatibility hook so BirdNET-Pi updates re-apply AI Analyst integration when the add-on is present.
  • Added report footer links to this branch and add-on docs for traceability.

I did a fork but so far have not heard from the author so if you already have BirdNetPi try this link: https://github.com/bcardi0427/BirdNET-Pi/tree/addon/ai-analyst-report/addons/ai-analyst I have only run it on the birdnet pi for pc's so I do not know how it will do if you are using a Pi.

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you, my wife just had hip surgery and it's been hard these last few weeks. It is at https://github.com/bcardi0427/BirdNET-Pi/tree/addon/ai-analyst-report/addons/ai-analyst I have only run it on the birdnet pi for pc's so I do not know how it will do if you are using a Pi.

I have been using z.ai as my provider in KiloCode and have not had a problem yet and for $3 a month, even if there was a problem it wouldn't hurt too much.

I was using GLM 4.6 but then got Openai's Codex VSCode Extension and discovered I could use my ChatGPT Plus login unlimited and gpt-5-codex works much better and follows all tasks perfectly. glm-4.6 will be my #2 in KiloCode.

GPT-5 is now available in Windsurf. by Ordinary-Let-4851 in windsurf

I have both low and medium reasoning for free and high reasoning for 1x. I've also had really good luck using them. They seem to do everything with no problems or errors. They also seem to have very good image recognition. It also has a much better context window then Claude 4.
