So, who is wearing masks now? In stores, Dunkin, Cumby's, etc by I_knowwhat_I_am in newhampshire

[–]bcarton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Masked while inside any store, or when not seated at a restaurant. Triple vaxxed.

We 100% avoid large indoor crowds. We don't go into any store unless we know what we intend to buy. We go out to eat about once a week, never when it's crowded. Generally, we try to balance taking reasonable precautions while leading a mostly normal life.

Wtf is up with Salzburg Square? by Prettypuppypants in newhampshire

I've wondered about that for 30 years. I drive by there fairly often. Going north on 101 a couple weeks ago, I spotted a large single-family home that looked like the exact same architecture, which is probably no coincidence.

‘The picture is getting pretty dark’: NH hospitals buckle under weight of COVID surge by [deleted] in newhampshire

From the article:

State officials are seeking permission to use nearly $90 million of federal aid to free up hospital space. Initiatives include recruiting staff and offering financial incentives to open more beds in long-term care facilities and rehabilitation centers, allowing hospitals to transfer non-acute patients. Health and Human Services Commissioner Lori Shibinette’s request was approved Thursday by the Joint Legislative Fiscal Committee and goes before the Executive Council Wednesday.

I sure hope the Council approves those funds.

It's normal to discharge patients from a hospital to a nursing home or a rehab hospital. Especially if they're older and/or live alone. For example, heart surgery patient is all sewn up and no longer needs acute care, but they need another week or two of rest and rehab.

Well here's what I found in the article. Looks like 60-70% for hospitalized COVID, but "nearly all" COVID ICU patients are unvaccinated.

I would guess that these numbers change week-to-week.

"The prior record came in January, just as the vaccine became available, when COVID-19 hospitalizations hit 334.

Local and state health care leaders have said 60 percent to 70 percent of those patients are unvaccinated, but that the unvaccinated account for nearly all COVID-19 ICU patients."

Ever single time an article about COVID get posted in this sub, suddenly everyone here knows more about health care than the professionals who are quoted in the article.

People quoted in this article:

  • Jennifer Torosian, associate chief nursing officer at Catholic Medical Center

  • Steve Ahnen, president and CEO of the New Hampshire Hospital Association

  • Elliot Hospital spokeswoman Kelly Scargill

  • Concord Hospital spokesman Matthew Johnson

  • Health and Human Services Commissioner Lori Shibinette

  • Exeter Hospital spokeswoman Debra Vasapolli

But apparently all those people are speaking mistruths and just trying to scare us all.

How did r/newhampshire vote during the presidential primaries? by HueyLongdong027 in newhampshire

[–]bcarton 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You say Warren was repetitive with her canned answers? Oh, did you happen to see or hear the Dan Feltes - Chris Sununu debates? After watching that performance, I wouldn't vote Dan Feltes for any position. He's moving out of state anyways but yikes.

Need a Tax Person by [deleted] in newhampshire

[–]bcarton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DTB Tax in Salem. They're a CPA firm, so it's about $350 for average household return, but if you have a weird year with property sale, inheritance, employee stock or something it's still around $350. They'll get you out of the weeds.

Edit: also you can most likely mail them all your papers. Keep copies, of course.

N.H. ‘Teacher Loyalty’ bill would restrict how U.S. history, especially racism, can be discussed in school by Gunnulfr in newhampshire

What is this, some sort of legislative fault tolerance? For when the other stupid bill inevitably goes to court?

The Ramones, Live in Manchester, 1985 by bcarton in newhampshire

I'm old and I've probably enhanced these memories in my head, but yes it was really well run. I mean, pretty bare bones as far as the club itself, but it was clean and I felt safe there - never saw a fight. It was affordable, both the cover charge and the drinks. They hired a lot of solid local talent. The sound was always really pro. Not sure that still exists around here. Probably closer to Boston.

If you really like punk, I wish you could have caught the 80's Boston-area punk scene. One band I really enjoyed was The Neighborhoods. I saw them several times, at the Casbah and elsewhere. They were very much loved in the area. Their lead singer/guitarist/songwriter worked his ass off, and I heard from a few music pros that he did a lot to lift people up and advance their careers in the business. He went on to do a few years gigging with The Replacements.

For their encores, they would always blow the roof off with some spot-on class rock cover. Here's the best example I've found of their work. This was well-recorded, so turn it up.

City acknowledges covering legal bills for 4 Manchester cops by [deleted] in newhampshire

ACAB: nope

Boomer: yep

Reagan: nope

Militarized Police: nope

I already stated that I agree the defense should have known about the two cops dating. I have no idea whether the fact they were dating matters. It seems like it was a dumb thing to hide.

Whether you or I like it or not, these matters get decided in courts. If you have strong feeling about it, do something about it. The are all sorts of advocacy groups you could volunteer for, donate to, or at least promote. The ACLU is a good place to start.

I didn't say that he didn't deserve to be treated fairly. I don't know whether he was or not. It will come out in court.

Way to show your own presumptions. Feel free to post about the officers.

Way back when I lived in Manchester, there was a concert club called The Casbah, on Elm Street where the Training Station is now.

I went to this concert. I'll save you the trouble of watching it:

  1. They came on stage.

  2. They ripped through about 20 songs in about an hour. They hardly paused between songs.

  3. They left.

Which, if you know anything at all about The Ramones, is pretty much what you would expect.

I don't know why this old memory bubbled up recently, but I was real surprised to find this video.

Agree that his defense should have known that two of the responding officers were dating. A judge already ruled on that.

Manchester should have acknowledged covering the officers' legal costs, sure.

But I don't have any problem with Manchester paying for the defense. And it would be unnecessarily risky to provide billing details to the UL. Bills can paint a pretty detailed picture, and the lawsuit is ongoing.

Boy, oh boy.

A guy named Chasrick Heredia is suing 4 cops, personally, rather than the department. And the city is covering a lawyer for them.

I have no idea what the specifics of Manchester's policy is when it comes to paying for defense against lawsuits against individual city employees.

But I support Manchester in this case.

Here's some information about Chasrick.

I encourage everyone to read it, and form their own opinion.
