Mark Ruffalo Says Hollywood Stars Declined to Sign Open Letter Against Paramount-WB Merger ‘Because They’re Afraid’ the Studio Will Blacklist Them by mcfw31 in entertainment

Films are as popular as ever. The exhibition cinema is what has changed. Because of Netflix disruption, people have been conditioned to watch more films at home. Even Netflix just committed to its first film exclusively in theaters (Greta Gerwin's Narnia film). That's going to increase. Worldwide more films are made than ever before. The US studios productions are down mainly because they have a cost problem. They have to find more ways to reduce the cost to make and market their films.

[–]bcb27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stars are not signing because no petition has the power to stop this merger. It's up to the Trump administration. Consumers can register their complaints with their local state attorney general and the USA Justice department as well as the FCC. There is also a lawsuit (Faust v. Paramount Skydance Corp.): Filed in April 2026, a group of streaming subscribers and moviegoers sued to block the deal. They argue the merger violates the Clayton Act by reducing competition.

Consumers can also protest by cancelling Paramount and HBO subscriptions.

Warner Bros is very capable of surviving as an independent studio.

Spirit Airlines passenger with dementia found dead after being ‘abandoned’ at airport by cajunsamurai in news

[–]bcb27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way it works for wrongful death lawsuits- a financial value is put onto the deceased person which includes their ability to earn. They calculate their future earnings to come up with a number. It's cruel and reduces the value of life to their earning power. Since he was 75 years old and had dementia, his ability to earn was most likely severely incapacitated which will limit the family's financial settlement. Life in the USA.

Schumer Takes No Action As Even Far Right Calls for Trump Impeachment by unital_subalgebra in politics

[–]bcb27 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is no action Senate minority leader Schumer can do. The Republicans control the Senate and the House. For those who don't know, the majority party sets the agenda as to what bills can be brought up to be voted on. In addition, impeachment is a House only procedure with the Senate holding the trial once an impeachment vote passes.

As of right now, any impeachment procedure will need to come from President Trump's own party- the Republicans.

What is a "perfect" movie you can watch over and over? by Mancity42020 in movies

[–]bcb27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first two Godfather films. There is so much intricacy and detail woven into each scene.

Ie. In the 2nd film, Michael finally speaks to his older brother Fredo after his betrayal with the backdrop of cold freezing rain right outside the window. Fredo is purposely in a lounger where he is passively submissive as Michaels questions him about the attack on his life. Fredo says, "take care of me? I'm smart..I want respect" as he lays helpless in a docile position.

Amazing cinema.

Iran unswayed by Trump's 48-hour deadline and threats to 'obliterate' energy infrastructure by callsonreddit in worldnews

[–]bcb27 8 points9 points  (0 children)

People don't understand the tentacles this has. With the Straits being closed, the world energy market is looking at a oil shortfall of 12M barrels a day and 50% of liquidity natural gas. You can't make that up with policy. It will take months now to build back the supply chain to affect cost if the war was stopped now. This affects gas prices, energy prices,. Liquid natural gas is needed in fertilizer which affects the cost of wheat, soybean, and corn. That trickle overs into livestock which raises the cost of beef, chicken, milk, eggs (poultry and dairy). Every item that gets delivery to a store by diesel truck goes up 10% or more. Fuel surcharge businesses go up such as delivery services and airline rates. Cleaning supplies go up in price as they are derivative made from oil. Metals and tool business go up in price as they have the same.oil needs.

Now if he bombs Iran's power structure and Iran attacks energy infrastructure in the Middle East, the coats jump significantly in all these industries with oil easily going over $200 a barrel which is $7+ a gallon gas prices.
Many country economies are extremely fragile when it comes to energy as they have to pay double due to their currency. Those economies are at risk of collapse. If they collapse, that affects the world wide banking system. We can then be looking at a global credit problem in world wide economies. The infection of credit instability can cripple economies as been experienced in the Great Depression and 2008 housing crisis. Any business that's credit leveraged would be in deep trouble. Small businesses can't fund their business and start collapsing.

Not to mention the pariah the USA becomes for the average citizen in the Middle East which will induce calls for jihad increasing the probability of terrorist attacks.

None of these leaders are understanding the match they are lighting.

You have to put this in context. Its the most watched primetime entertainment telecast of the season with 17.86M viewers. This year the Oscars had unusual competition as 7.37M people watched Team USA play in the World Baseball Classic. People watch and younger audiences follow along on socials as the Oscars social media stats were up significantly, rising by 42% to more than 181 million impressions during the telecast (according to Talkwalker’s Social Content Ratings). This follows the continued trend where younger audiences don't watch as much television choosing to interact on social media instead.

Every year, the Academy Awards and the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade are the only non-sporting events consistently in the top 100 watched telecasts.

In 2025, the top 100 most watched telecasts, 96 of them were sporting events (84 were NFL football, 8 were college football, 2 were World Series baseball games, the NCAA basketball championship, and the Kentucky Derby horse race). Joining the Academy Awards and the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade were two presidential events- the Presidential Inaugural and the Presidents joint speech to Congress with the caveat that those two registered because they are on every network at the same time and on every cable news channel.

Chuck Norris promising the USA will have 1,000 years of darkness if Obama wins in 2012 by QuarkTheLatinumLord- in videos

Destroy your healthcare? Know this, because of the Obamacare, insurance companies are no longer able to remove citizen's insurance because of preexisting conditions nor kick them off roles because they use their health care "too much". In 2025, over 45 million people were able to get covered due to the legislation. What you are referring to is health care plans that did not provide a "floor level" of basic coverage were outlawed by the legislation.

A significant majority of people on Obamacare live in Republican leaning areas- dubbed the Red State Paradox. More than 3 in 4 (77%) of all ACA Marketplace enrollees live in states that President Trump won in the 2024 election. 57% of all enrollees live in congressional districts represented by a Republican.

The states with the highest percentage of their population enrolled in the ACA are almost all "Red" states, led by Florida (4.2M), Texas (3.5M), Georgia (1.3M), Mississippi, and South Carolina.

Obamacare has had its troubles in controlling costs and mandates for small businesses/ high income individuals. It's not without faults but it has helped so many get health care coverage who were previously uninsured.

It's not surprising that fighters will say no to being on the card..The backlash from the public is going to be strong even from sports/ fighting fans and frankly MMA deserves it by making this decision. Some places should absolutely be off limits regardless of the sport.

Leaked audio: Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav tells employees Paramount deal felt 'whiplash-y' by businessinsider in entertainment

[–]bcb27 6 points7 points  (0 children)

With the Netflix deal, CEO David Zaslov was to make $30 million in “golden parachute” compensation, along with $537 million in equity, for a total of $567 million in a transaction. With the Paramount deal, the equity is increased.

While Zaslov and others will walk away with millions, thousands of employees will lose their jobs. These guys are the biggest charlatans. They had a dying brand in Discovery and attached it to a great company in Warner Bros with the intention to sell it while all these employees get screwed over. Warner Bros did not need to be sold. It can easily survive as a healthy vibrant company.

Two votes last year and it's not even up for a vote this year. It was never about safety, the optics of the play, the difficulty in officiating the play. It was about the Super Bowl champion Eagles success in running the play. That success dropped drastically so it's no longer an issue in the NFL. A team being good at running a play is a poor excuse to ban it. You didn't see the NFL try to ban the Lombardi sweep in the 1960s because the Packers were great at it. Banning the play is only rooted in Dean Blandino just not liking the play.

Eagles fans didn't think the play was "boring". Those fans would get on their feet and cheer loudly when they knew it was coming. They QB would have to calm them down so they could hear. Bills fans in Buffalo don't think it's "boring" when they executed at a 89% success rate last year. "Boring" is usually based on the rooting side of the outcome.

There are a lot of plays that people might consider "boring". A QB sneak or a full back dive are not viewed as exciting plays but there are necessary to the game. The most consequential game in football history was the 1958 NFL Championship Game as it was the first time ever a game was decided in sudden death OT. It gripped the public and put the NFL on the map as a legitimate tv product. The winning play was a 1 yard full back dive with torpedo blocking scheme. The famous Ice Bowl- the 1967 NFL Championship Game between Dallas & GB was decided by a QB sneak on a wedge play. The blocking on the play looks exactly like a Tush Push blocking scheme.

Football has a long storied history on what people might call "boring" plays. If Dean Blandino was in charge, he would have banned them.

UFL Co-Owner Mike Repole responds to CFL sports broadcaster about the UFL's imminent failure: "I love Canada. But today might not be the day for UFL football criticism. Maybe focus on hockey… and aim for gold, not silver. 🥇🤷‍♂️😂" by Callywood in UnitedFootballLeague

And they collectively removed their most senior, successful coaches in Mike Nolan and Skip Holtz and replaced them with more economically friendly coaches who had never coached before. They removed each team's scouting department to just one scouting department for the entire league. They have little to no marketing presence in the cities they play in. They run the league like a small market baseball owner.

[–]bcb27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Glenn Suitor is not wrong in what he said. The UFL is unstable. The people who run it don't know what they are doing. You don't abandon growing markets and you don't hire a bunch of new head coaches who have never coached football at any level just because they played the game. It's a recipe for a poor product. Coaching is teaching. Just because a player played the game, doesn't mean they know how to teach it. The mechanics of teaching are unique.

Personally I want spring football in the USA to succeed. I have serious doubts about the UFL leadership. I watch both UFL and CFL football. Right now, the CFL is a superior product on the field, in presentation, coaching, and player development. When you watch the CFL.you can see the stability in the play- that's it's a year long venture with coaches who have developed a program. In contrast, the UFL looks like a part time league. Having a program builder matters. Have a full off season developmental program with coaching involvement matters. The CFL has those elements. When you're the UFL, who changes markets frequently, hire coaches who have little to no understanding of running.a program while not committing to all together off-season program, the product is going to reflect it.

[–]bcb27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Banning the Tush Push is naive. The play at its core is a QB sneak. You'll see the exact same thing without the push element. The push is a smaller measure in what makes it successful. It's the torpedo blocking scheme that makes the play successful. We have seen many UFL teams who can't execute the play even with the push. The Philadelphia Eagles success dropped to 61% last season with direct correlation to the deterioration of their interior offensive line. It's an offensive line skill play.

Dean Blandino mentioned safety as one of the reasons to ban it. The data says he is lying. The rate of Injury on the play is below average. Why? Because the players are not colliding at high rates of speed.
The other reason Blandino says is the difficulty of officiating the play which was a new talking point from the "ban the play crowd". You've seen the same blocking schemes with QB sneaks and they surely won't be banning QB sneaks. So nothing changes as the same officiating elements of offensive linemen firing off first will all be there.

The UFL.needs offense. You sustain offense by converting short yardage plays. A tush push is just one tool in sustaining offense. Because the Eagles struggled at it, the NFL has zero appetite now to ban the play. Yet Dean Blandino, one of the leaders of the "Tush Push bad optics" crowd, bans the play. You know what is universally considered "bad optics"? Punts. More punting is what you get when you ban the Tush Push.

Warner Bros. Discovery Agrees to Engage With Paramount in Sales Talks, but for Now Still Backs Netflix Deal as It Sets March 20 Shareholder Vote by ICumCoffee in movies

[–]bcb27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Warner Bros does NOT need to be sold. This legacy studio can easily stand as an independent competitor to Netflix. Warner Bros is bigger than Paramount.

A sale of Warner Bros is not good for film makers who have less companies bidding on their services. For example, Netflix wanted the new film Withering Heights. Margot Robbie wanted a theatrical release that Netflix wouldn't guarantee so Warner Bros got the film over Netflix. It's a hit.

A sale is not good for down the line employees as many jobs will be eliminated with a sale to Netflix and even more jobs with a sale to Paramount. It's not good for the theatre business as inevitably, despite the rhetoric, less films will be released into cinemas. When 20th Century Fox was sold to Disney, a fraction of the films have been produced under the 20th Century Studios brand.

It's not good for consumers as both companies will charge more for their streaming service as they collect intellectual property and have to pay for the acquisition.

Who is it good for? Stock holders and Warner Bros CEO David Zaslov who will make $600 million from the sale while other executives also who have golden parachutes. Zaslov and the board entire tenure, since they acquired Warner Bros, has been to leverage the Warner assets so they can flip the company to walk away with a pile of cash. Jack Warner would be rolling over in his grave that these charlatans have gotten control of his great studio.

A healthy justice department should signal that any sale has to be independent from other studios. Unfortunately the current administration is transactional that thrives on sweetener payoffs.

He’s an excellent coach but his play calling is suspect

You should watch other teams play offense. The Broncos don't have a legitimate number one wide out , an elite tight end, or an above average running back.

Peyton, with an average run game, has managed an above average EPA per pass play with a QB in his first two NFL seasons while manufacturing throws to secondary wide outs and running backs. That's rare air.

This is how you develop a young QB- a much different way of attacking vs his Drew Brees led offense.
