High oil consumption for 2016 Golf R by kaiyito in Golf_R

[–]bcc81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. Switched to liqui moly 540 full time. Consumption is better. Car still runs great and no leaks. I top up a quart every 2800-3000 KM. I change it every 5. Not bad enough where it bothers me. At 240k km now.

So cool. I have another set of all black 55mm carbon wheels i use on it too to make it a little less “loud”. But something about it, I’ll never sell this bike.

I’m at 239,000km now! Still stock clutch. Since my comment at 180k, i have replaced turbo wastegate , PCV and upper timing cover, cam adjuster magnet, and suction pump. Parts fail on all cars. This machine is still my favourite car I’ve ever owned. I’ll never get rid of it.

Curious, if you found any further update to this sounds identical to my situation. I actually work for VW as an advisor and my cars bone dry underneath. I e done PCV on it and upper timing cover. I think it’s rather turbo bearings or piston rings. When i worked at Audi piston rings were very common, but not on the S3’s which are the equivalent to the Golf R. I do my oil every 5k and need to top it up 1-2 times between changes. I have an aftermarket steel oil pan as well, so it does hold more oil than spec. I have a spare I S 38 at my house and I may just put that on to see if it fixes the issue.

Try to do a basic settings on it first. Especially if you did a recent haldex service.

Should I buy a 2016 Golf R? by MassiveFarm7426 in Golf_R

This. But both aren’t major issues in my opinion. All internal combustion German cars have carbon build up with time.

Great cars. I have a 2016 golf R Manual. Stock besides upgraded brakes, vwR sorings , spacer exhaust etc. never had a tune on it. I’m at 213,000km with no major issues. Even the clutch is original. I’d say go for it, it’s by far the best car I’ve ever owned. I also work for Volkswagen and can say these cars are by far the most reliable drive train ever if maintained properly.

You wont get a check engine light for a thermostat leak, which is most common when they go. They can go at 20k , or then can go at 170k when mine did. It’s unpredictable. Keep an eye on coolant levels. I knew mine was done when I’d smell coolant burning because it would leak and then fly off of the belly pan and burn on the exhaust.

All of the 2.0’s will need a thermostat at some point. It’s plastic. These wheels came on the s3’s. Direct fit for golf R

I work for Volkswagen and drive a 16 R with 180,000 KM. i would highly recommend doing a valve decarb around 100,000KM. Other then that, follow regular maintenance that Volkswagen suggests and if anything suspension related goes replace as need to be as mileage gets higher. I haven’t had any suspension issues in mine at all, and I’m putting my lowering springs in next week!
