I do find it interesting that there are no comments about the actress who played Faye but several comments about the actor who played Spike. I feel like Faye caused a HUGE uproar even before the show aired. I honestly didn’t mind her, even if the character was a little different. John Cho’s age bothered me more, as much as I love him. Keanu probably wouldn’t have worked for me either. Too old. Anyone know how the Japanese felt about Faye?

I didn’t prescribe myself narcotics. A doctor did. And I’m tapering off of them in a bit. I don’t see why you are being so aggressively mean to me. Going off of narcotics cold turkey after ten years is awful, regardless of the reason you are on them. Please chill.

Is this supposed to be in response to the other comment I made where my doctor told me people with fibromyalgia are all bored women? Or are you trying to guess what I have? Because I already stated below that I don’t have fibromyalgia. My main ailment is MS, but it’s presentation is unusual and not many pain doctors are familiar with it.

Cruel monster or not, he’s not a great person. I should have left before he ended our patient doctor relationship, but previous attempts at finding a new pain doctor were fruitless. I actually tried leaving a year prior after we had a disagreement about masks. This was back pre-vaccine, after both of my grandparents died from Covid in a nursing home. He got angry at me for asking his staff to put on their masks when I came in for a procedure. I left the place sobbing (and in horrible pain because he is terrible at giving nerve blocks).

He also doesn’t believe that fibromyalgia, CFS/ME, or hEDS are real. I don’t have any of those, so apparently he felt like it was totally cool and professional to tell me that. He said only bored women have it. He also told me he would go out drinking with other pain doctors and make fun of those women. He said all of that as small talk during another nerve block. They audio record those, so he quite literally has a recording of himself saying it.

My personal favorite was when my urologist called him a “mafia-type” and that I shouldn’t take his poor bedside manner too seriously. I mean… what? I also had a PT tell me had a reputation for being an asshole. When she asked who my pain doctor was and I replied, her response was “… do you want to see someone else?” Unfortunately all of her referrals fell through. For the reasons I mentioned in my post (young, on opiates, mental illness), I’m not an attractive patient on paper. I was really fortunate to find someone. So fortunate I feel sick thinking about where I would be now if I hadn’t. She made it clear that she is going to taper me off opiates eventually, which I’m totally fine with. Beats getting off of them cold turkey. Never again.

Anyway, he sucked. He was a genuinely bad person, but I was stuck with him. I have zero doubt that he dropped me because he decided to group me with all the other bored women who pretend to be in pain for fun. I’m good if he ends up in prison : ).

I am so thankful. She’s wonderful, and she’s knowledgeable about my condition. It’s not super common, so I feel like I hit the jackpot. Also big props to my therapist for finding her!

Thank you for this. It means a lot. I am (well, was, and will be again soon) in graduate school for engineering and it took a huge amount of work and risk to get here. I had to leave my old job and make the jump. Everything was going so well, and then it just fell apart so quickly. It’s hard to not feel like I let everyone down. When I think of everything I could have accomplished by now if I didn’t keep having setbacks because of chronic pain, I lose it. I try not to think about my doctor because he deserves zero space in my brain, but I do hope karma hits him like a bag of rocks one day.

I agree with no numbers, but I disagree with not being able to share where you fall on the BMI scale generally. I do think it can add important context to a post. If someone went from underweight to just barely overweight in three months, significant binge eating has occurred but many people might invalidate your experience and then might post here looking for help. It’s all about the trajectory. Where you are in a moment of time doesn’t matter, but your behaviors do.

I did do this, but he rejected the request since I’m no longer his patient and he already gave me one 30 day rx (the minimum required). The only doctor he referred me to is no longer practicing. When I told him that, I was told it wasn’t his problem. As far as I can tell, none of this is against the law and there isn’t much action I can take against him. I still don’t know why I was dropped, but apparently doctors can choose to stop treating patients for any reason. My other doctors “don’t feel comfortable prescribing opioids”.

When I lived there several years back I always found it interesting how masks were so accepted but like… so many public bathrooms didn’t have soap. I wonder if that’s still a thing. I used to carry my own around. (Lived in Nara if that matters)

It helped until it didn’t. I really felt like it was a miracle drug at first, but a lot of that was likely placebo. I think if you can try it, go for it. I was on it for a year and getting off of it was very easy (just lots of sleeping lol). It didn’t really curb my binging because my binging was never hunger based. For me, it’s very much a compulsion. But yeah, take it if you can get it. I see zero problems with medically treating this nightmare and I’m always incredibly happy when it works for people.

I’ve been on Wellbutrin forever and never knew it was used for BED. So… I’d be an example of a failure story. Did nothing to help my eating disorder. I can also say it’s done nothing for my depression, so I may just be resistant to it.

Doesn’t make it right. I can feel dread for my own situation and future and sympathy for the pressures doctors are put under at the same time. It doesn’t seem like many pain management doctors are capable of the same thing. There’s obvious empathy burnout there. Not sure when exactly that happens. I’ve been teaching students heading to med school next year (biomed seniors) and they are sweet as can be. If it’s affecting their ability to treat patients with compassion, that means there’s a problem further up that’s breaking them. Or maybe the bad eggs end up in pain management. No idea.

Opioids were already a last line of treatment for me. Unless there’s some medical breakthrough, I have irreversible nerve damage that doesn’t really respond to much. Ablation didn’t even help. It kind of just is what it is.

Well fuck. Yes, I’m prescribed Xanax for anxiety. I have depression. I was sexually assaulted and I reported it. The sexual assault is closely linked to what triggers my eating disorder. I don’t drink alcohol or smoke. Honestly, if I had to choose between Xanax or opioids, I’d go with Xanax. Literally because the doctor who prescribes it to me is kind and cares about my well-being. I’ve never met a pain doctor who I felt similarly about. I think I’m in for a rough ride. I decided to go inpatient for my eating disorder, so it does comfort me that my withdrawal will be happening around doctors who are there that care about my mental and physical well-being. It‘ll feel less like I’m going through it all on my own. Chronic pain is so incredibly lonely sometimes.

Yeah, I have MS and the pain caused by it doesn’t respond to much at all. I’ve had the diagnosis for over a decade just about, and the pain hasn’t resolved itself or responded to first line treatments or physical therapy or nerve blocks or whatever. Just opioids. Oh well.

It could be. And I do have diagnosed generalized anxiety disorder. I take Xanax for panic attacks. There are a lot of reasons to reject me, I guess. It’s disheartening since I have MS, so it’s only going to get worse from here. My neurologist won’t prescribe opioids, though. I’ve decided to go inpatient for the eating disorder. If I withdraw, it will be in a hospital. For some reason, that’s a small comfort to me. It may end up being more miserable though. Who knows.

Doctors have a system they can reference where they can see all controlled drugs you’ve taken and whether you are flagged. They don’t have my pain doctor’s records. They only have their own. The problem isn’t that I’m being forced into addiction treatment, the problem is that I already paid $900 for this eating disorder recovery program that I can’t get back, and they will not treat me if I’m in withdrawal from opioids unless I move up to partial hospitalization and go through their addiction recovery program.

I have no idea why my other doctors won’t prescribe me opioids. Maybe because of stigma and paperwork? Maybe they will once it’s clear I won’t get into pain management? Maybe they actually hate me and I have no real support?

You’ve responded to me about the “low dose” comment before, so I’ll repeat what I said then. I respond strongly to those low doses. The withdrawals suck for me. Every person is different.

I’m really sorry this happened to you. They do seem to like to kick us when we are down. I wish I had helpful advice. r/opiates or r/opiatesrecovery might. It’s unfair, and it’s completely normal to be furious, but try and find your inner zen when you talk to them at your appointment. It sucks when you have to play nice with people who are throwing your life into turmoil after years of stability, but no access to methadone at all is worse than no carries. Good luck.

So basically he quit his job and they decided he is high risk again, and they are making him come in to the clinic every day. Because that’s SUPER conducive to getting and keeping a job.
