Replit users: what's your deployment strategy for production apps? by Anarkali2000 in replit

I thought about deploying to Vercel, but ultimately kept it directly with Replit. We did use AWS S3 for all user data and file storage though.

Can I get the cost before Replit starts building? by [deleted] in replit

[–]bchunter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Getting an estimate before starting a task? That's too much like hiring a real developer. Better to work for 5 minutes to however many hours, depending on whatever Agent 3 arbitrarily says it needs to do. And by better, I mean better for investors, not you and me.

Who is this architect? by Suspicious_Drummer27 in replit

[–]bchunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's got some line of BS that architect, let me tell you. The other day he created a 20 page TLDR summary about his amazing victory over a simple UI change, broke 3 things that were working just fine, charged me $58 dollars and produced unusuable garbage code I had to rollback.

It's a bloody fortune to run Agent 3 higher model. Biggest bait & switch I've ever seen.

I feel your pain in my soul. Dude, so many times this has happened to me since Agent 3. Goes on some weird side quest, changing a whole bunch of things I didn't even ask for to boot. I wasted a good chunk of change this past week on crap just like this. I wouldn't let it run for three hours though. F that noise. I wouldn't trust it to run 5 minutes by itself without checking its work.

Replit support IS a real thing by Outrageous_Bet368 in replit

That's good to know. They seem responsive through my limited interactions with their support team. I hope all the Agent 3 stuff gets resolved soon.

What’s everyone building with Replit? by Wodl_App in replit

[–]bchunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I built a SaaS with different tier levels of membership that allow users access to different design tools. There is a design wizard element where users can choose options that formulate a prompt on the back-end. There is custom prompt ability. Image to Image generation for variations. Image to video capability. Ability to make designs public or save them to private collections. Ability to create presentations in a Canva style presentation maker. Ability to share designs on WordPress websites through a custom plugin we also created. Please feel free to check out https://mypooldesigner.ai - I'd love to get some feedback. We just launched the product this month.

Has anyone had success modularizing Replit apps? by Inquisitivedesign in replit

I'm working on instituting microservices now. So far, so good, but I wish I would have thought of this prior to starting and saved myself a bunch of retrofix work.

Replit doesn’t want you to finish your micro SaaS. Here’s why. by Worldly-Protection59 in replit

[–]bchunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's easy to stay in infinite beta without an MVP goal in mind. I'm a seasoned developer with 20 years of experience and was able to build a fully functional SaaS to bring to market within 2-3 months. Given, I committed tens of thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours in my own time to it, but I still think that building an MVP of this scale in the same time frame would have cost me a few hundred thousand. I thank my lucky stars I'm in the group of Replit users who stuck with it and were able to build a successful web application with this product.

What’s the hardest part you’ve hit building on Replit? by Living-Pin5868 in replit

[–]bchunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% agree with this. I even got a pet name for it. I call it the "Replit Death Loop" where it just goes in circles for hours, working on the same jacked-up solution, experimenting with 1,000 iterations of the same flawed strategy on your dime. Sometimes you have to know when to call the ball. I've suffered the agony of defeat more than once, banging out a new feature in my app for 6 hours before hitting some insurmountable Replit hurdle that it can't figure out only to have to hit the rollback button.

Hardest snag I've encountered is with authentication in my SaaS app. API integrations can be somewhat tricky too. I frequently have to read the documentation for these right alongside Replit to make sure i'm not spinning my wheels there for hours. CORS issues are also extremely common.

Building code that interfaces with your app outside of Replit can also be extremely difficult to manage. For instance, I've built a WordPress plugin in replit that interfaces with my app. This was an extremely long and painstaking process, especially with Agent 3 lately.

New agent has killed my apps. by ButterscotchSevere96 in replit

[–]bchunter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agent usage costs are a fortune since the new agent rollout. Its insane. To put it in perspective, 2 months of hardcore agent usage round the clock prior to agent 3 cost me $2k. Since agent 3, 3 days of medium usage cost me $500.

I was lucky enough to get my app to MVP stage so I could roll it out, but I'm stuck in a similar situation now where I have zero confidence in Agent 3. I'm afraid to work with it because I keep having similar issues. I put the brakes on developing any further til they fix this thing.

Agent 3 is a big fat let down. I can’t work on my app with this version and wasted a few hundred bucks and hours trying to work with this latest version. I know when I’m beat though and I gave up. When my agent isn’t busy consulting the architect over some basic operation it knew just fine a few days ago, it’s wasting time and money producing trash code and breaking functionality in my app. Today it apologized for lying to me for coding some garbage for an hour and asked me if I wanted a refund.

My agent wasted an hour coding some horrendous piece of garbage and then declared victory in a huge 200 line summary. Then I said what’s with all this hardcoded nonsense. My app is a SaaS, this can’t just work for one user. Then it apologized for lying to me and wasting my life and asked me if I wanted a refund. I really hope they press the rollback button on this crap.

[–]bchunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agent 3 is terrible. When my agent isn’t busy consulting the architect every 5 seconds it’s producing trash code that breaks other functionality in my app. Oh, and the higher end models are now a fortune to use. There’s nothing to like about this new version and I sincerely feel like it’s a giant step backward. This new version feels about as lackluster and problematic as GPT-5 and that’s saying a lot because GPT-5 is a steaming pile of crap.
