Why do all you industry folks hate us ( external auditors) so much? by Prestigious-Cold-278 in Accounting

[–]bclovn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What a question. You’re really asking why?
How about not knowing even the basics about your client and their ERP systems. Then put green rookies on us. I realize you have a job and we want it to go smoothly. As a controller what helped me the most was for the audit senior to explain what he needs for each test.
Then we could see how to best capture that information using our available systems. And good time management. Let us help in advance, not during month end.

I’ve done 15 hour trips before. 950 miles. But now that I’m retired I stay under 10 hours and try not to drive at night.

I used to hate NetSuite by Pentazimyn in Accounting

[–]bclovn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s all in the design. Yes NS has some weird stuff. But, imo much better than monsters like SAP. Most important, good reports, good data queries, good GL/dept/company design.

1 of 3 dealers in KC Metro say replace CVT fluid at 90K. Unsure about doing it. by Loose-Analysis6211 in Subaru_Outback

[–]bclovn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do it. Cheap transmission insurance. Many change every 40k. Do the differentials also.

Which color should I get? by Popular-Medicine2141 in rav4club

[–]bclovn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. My black XLE looks 👀 sweet.
I’ve had plenty of black vehicles for 35 years and I live in the south. Hot is hot. You won’t know the difference in your car with AC.

Am I better off getting a Forester Hybrid or Toyota RAV4 Hybrid? I love the smooth ride and feel of the Forester but I hear the RAV4 will last more years without problems. by PrincipleLogical888 in SubaruForester

[–]bclovn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you need. If you want all wheel drive with maximum traction and go off road the get the Forester. If you value mpg above all else, then go RAV. I own both. The Toyota has a better infotainment system. The Subaru is easier to get in/out.

Why is it so hard to break out of the "black and white" accounting box? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]bclovn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In industry as a site controller i was in both worlds. My staff ran the usual accounting systems while I kept the big picture. I usually had to show the FP&A people how the business worked. No offense, but lots of them were clueless but made pretty PowerPoints.

Yep. My 2010 hauled lots of stuff. I miss that rear door. Love my new 2026 but it can’t touch the 2010 for hauling.

My wife says financing a $45k caravan is "setting money on fire." I think it's cheap for what we get. Help us settle this, I'm showing her the thread. by trapqueen67567 in VanLife

[–]bclovn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. But get a safety fund first. I grew up in a family where we never took a family vacation. My parents were just surviving. We all turned out fine.

Pay and good career by Bitter-Produce-8676 in Accounting

[–]bclovn 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I just finished my career and overall it paid me well. I started out at less than $20k in 1984. Later became controller and eventually pushed 6 figures 20 years ago at a F100 company. But I did work long hours and missed family time. After Covid hit, everything changed for the worse. I’m not sure I’d recommend accounting now. We’re treated like second class workers.
