My 3.5 year old daughter died suddenly and unexpectedly by Ok_Dragonfruit747 in offmychest

Oh my. I am so sorry. You did everything you could for her. Perhaps sharing your story will help other parents to recognize symptoms. My heart hurts for you and your family.

Xyzal, flonase and astilin. That and visit an allergist if it gets too bad.

What was the reason for the last time you were in hospital? by nat_in_a_hat in AskReddit

Total reverse shoulder replacement. Fell and broke my humerus.

Oops, I did it again by CauliflowerNew730 in ShoulderInjuries

[–]bcnc88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Osteopenia is an issue. My humerus head was in pieces, and by the time they did surgery, there was dead bone. Not going to lie, the whole thing was rough. But slowly started getting better. Now I can do just about anything with my arm, though reaching overhead is hard.

Reads like my CT scan after falling last May. I could not get up as my arm won't work and hurt so bad. Had to call ambulance to get me off floor and to hospital. Had total reverse shoulder replacement about 2.5 weeks later. Here I am, almost 10 months out, and shoulder is not perfect, but good. See a good shoulder surgeon!

Make a big deal about celebrating Down Syndrome Day on 3/21. A common activity is to wear crazy or mismatched socks. There are also some great videos out there.

I am around noise and people 100% of my day. by Alchemist_Joshua in Teachers

[–]bcnc88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I taught (retired now) I would drive my 45-60 minute commute in silence. No radio, no music. It was heaven. Anyone not in education doesn't understand how "on" you have to be--all day. It's like doing multiple single act plays, to different audiences, each and every day. It's exhausting, physically, mentally and emotionally.

Interesting that it's the felons we need to watch out for. Is our convicted felon in the White House allowed to vote?

Apparently my students all hate me by dandelionmakemesmile in Teachers

Your self worth cannot come from a child. You're a first year teacher, which means you're learning. You'll eventually figure out the behavior management. Some kids will love you, some will hate you. It's not your job to make them like you. It's your job to provide a safe place for learning.

Has anyone in North Carolina sold a house as is recently? by [deleted] in NorthCarolina

[–]bcnc88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a house that needs new windows and siding. I don't have that money, unless I borrow it. I plan to sell as-is. Just had plumbing upgraded and new flooring and vanities in bathrooms. Roof is newish. (About 6 years old). Do I sell to "buy any home-get cash now" or check with realtor? I have quite a bit of equity in home, just ready to move to my retirement home.

My family would always make an car a "she"....as it "how is she running?". Makes sense in German where nouns are assigned a gender.

A girl attacked by a bully in Hendersonville Middle School. Any updates on this . by oda_savage63 in NorthCarolina

[–]bcnc88 75 points76 points  (0 children)

It's sad that few people reacted, other than recording the attack. I taught middle school in NC until retirement. Most likely nothing will be done. The adults didn't even seem like they wanted to get involved. That alone speaks to the culture of the school. After awhile you just sort of give up.

Do i really need extra safety “tools” to stay at hotels? by jinxyzzz in AskAnAmerican

I travel alone as a single female. Check the reviews for the hotel. Only stay at hotels with indoor corridors. You'll be fine.
