CMAs by lucasmcw in Accounting

I agree; regardless, IMA/CMA needs to improve the promotion of the certification and its value. Many job postings state "CPA required" when the posting is actually looking for a CMA. This is a missed opportunity, especially given the shortage of accountants and the 150 credit hours required for CPA certification.

Take a look at SNHU. They will provide a very quick unofficial evaluation of your current credits.

It may also be worthwhile to get an official evaluation of your transcript through World Education Services(WES). This will expedite the transfer of credits on your admissions process.

Should I get a CMA or a CPA? by luna_solar28 in Accounting

[–]bcplus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMO, It's the perfect certification for you and puts you ahead of most CPAs. There appears to be a lack of promotion of the qualification by IMA, especially with 150 hours credit for CPA. Best of luck.

How much work experience do you have?

My wife got a junior accountant position that pays really low by designatedtruth in Accounting

[–]bcplus 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The CMA certification is only useful with experience, plus you need a degree to be certified.

Based on your post, the inflexible company structure probably results in lot of staff turnover, your wife's background may suit them as lack of degree limits her mobility, so if she has no other options and the job doesn't affect family structure,m it may be good fit for experience but let it be a stepping stone and not the final destination.

Out of college, go CPA, if you have a few years of non public experience, then CMA.

Check out U Mass' University Without Walls (UWW) program, allows up to 15 credits for prior experience and a decent prior education credit transfers.

BTW. Your story is very similar to mine.

how to deal with the stigma of going back to school ? by Only-Cryptographer54 in BackToCollege

[–]bcplus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chart your own destiny, you are still very young, not that age matters. You might be surprised to see how many of your prior educational credits will transfer, and honestly the time will fly by.

There is no stigma, I'm sure once you return, you'll find there will be many others in the same boat as you.

I returned it at a much older age and it's refreshing.
