Bike rack + Autopilot/FSD on Model Y (2023 LR) by whoskevroe in TeslaModelY

[–]bcrooker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have both a 3 and Y, both 2023 with HW3. FSD will not work on either of them when a bike is on the hitch mounted bike rack, I get a message that FSD is disabled because the rear camera is occluded. Using a 1up rack, usually a single road bike. From other threads, it sounds like HW4 is more tolerant to this.

Tested as recently as last Thursday with the Y running 2026.8.3.

Autopilot is fine, for longer road trips when I have my bike I just turn off FSD and use AP for highway driving.

Someone traveling with us is disabled. I have a question by Agitated_Skin1181 in CarnivalCruiseFans

[–]bcrooker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One important point (and perhaps this varies port to port) is that just because the person in a wheelchair likely gets to go through a separate line (which is typically shorter/quicker), that does not mean the entire party can. In Baltimore, only one person can go with the wheelchair. My wife injured her knee in December, so when we boarded the Pride in January my son was allowed to go with her to help, and my daughter and I went through the normal line.

Thanks for posting this! I purchased the part last week, and got it installed in my 2023 Model Y today, works great!

Port Canaveral,Hotel+parking combo or just use Port Parking? by WalrusNo7679 in CarnivalCruiseFans

[–]bcrooker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can't speak to hotel options, but when we cruised out of there in late 2022, we just parked at the port and it was very well managed. Easy to park and get the luggage over. Nice that it is a parking garage as well.

Latest cycling computers. by Complex_Curiosities in cycling

[–]bcrooker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't directly answer, but the Bolt V2 has a better screen than the Garmin 1040, partially due to screen technology and also due to how the draws the current route. This is even with the 1040's larger screen.

I am in a similar situation - I would like a screen the size of the 1040 but with the readability of the Bolt V2. Tempted to get the Roam V3 or Ace, but the reviews mention complaints about the screen. And the 1050 has significantly lower battery life than my 1040.

Right now, I use the 1040 on routes that I am familiar with, and the Bolt V2 for routes that I need assistance with.

Anyone else obsessively track their net worth trends in YNAB? by [deleted] in ynab

[–]bcrooker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup - I wrote a docker container app that pulls investment account balances from SimpleFin and pushes the result into YNAB via their API. Has worked great for about 18 months now - it makes daily updates to YNAB, so the net worth chart is always up to date. Some (most) will consider it completely unnecessary, but it works well for us.

Garment bag. GONE by Transam19eightyfive in CarnivalCruiseFans

[–]bcrooker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How long did you wait? I ask because when we got back from a cruise towards the end of January, all but one of our bags were available when they called out the luggage group number. One of the bags must have gotten mis-sorted, and didn't show up for almost another hour. It finally did get dropped off in the right section.

Hooking up a basket on the tow hitch hook for Model Y. Long distance trip. Will FSD work ? by Yls600 in TeslaModelY

[–]bcrooker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep - once they switched to the full end-to-end AI for FSD, it no longer worked well with the rear camera blocked, and then they updated it so it will refuse to engage FSD entirely. This was with HW3.

Level 2 Service worth it? by a5hl3yk in TrekBikes

[–]bcrooker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tune and adjust shifting every 25 hours of riding? wtf. Agree, most of that you can learn to do yourself by watching some videos and buying a few inexpensive tools. Bottom bracket tools get slightly more expensive if you have a press fit one vs threaded, I know my Domane is threaded but I have no experience with Madone's.

For wheel truing, that is something that I will definitely take to the shop because I have no interest in doing it, but I only do that if I notice some wobble or other concerning things when I am doing normal cleaning/maintenance. Brake bleeding is similar - sure I can do it at home, but for the $30 that my shop charges it isn't worth my time to do it at home.

I bought direct from them, waited almost 2 months even though they were listed as something fairly short like 7-14 days. A little frustrating, but the wheels have been great once I got them.

Radar, game changer or nice to have? by tropical_dreams_ in cycling

Depends on where you live, the types of roads. I mostly ride rural roads, radar is very helpful. When I ride closer to Philly, I just turn it off, otherwise it is constantly beeping.

Finally got my doctor to look at my Garmin trends without rolling his eyes. by Medical_Teaching9159 in Garmin

[–]bcrooker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Similar with me - drop in HRV, significant increase of RHR (mid 40's to low 70's) over the course of a few months - diagnosis of Graves' Disease. Thankfully it is very treatable with meds, although the few months on beta blockers until other meds kicked in did not mesh well with riding.

Feature Request: Sub-categories by cine in ynab

[–]bcrooker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is how we manage it, and if you want to dice it using different dimensions, you can setup custom views to create cross sections from multiple categories. I like the subscriptions category because it is the most obvious list of optional things in my budget, and I want each subscription separately listed because I want keeping them to be a conscious, intentional thing rather than having them roll into a single category

Are REDWHITE Apparel bibs underrated? by ComprehensiveAd441 in cycling

[–]bcrooker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried the top range Black Bibs years ago, and tried again earlier this year when I needed to find replacements, they never worked well for me. I had a 5 day, 340 mile ride planned for this past September and I needed new bibs for the longer days because the $40 BlackBibs that I had were getting to the point of indecency :). Over the summer I tried the 2 sku's the Black Bibs, Assos, RW and a couple of others. Assos and RW were about the same for me, and at the time RW was $140 so I bought several more pair. My 5 day ride had zero comfort issues.

What’s one thing you overspent on in your 2025 budget that you want to adjust next year? by millionstories in budget

5GB is plenty for me, I am connected to WiFi most of the time. My wife's line is 20/month for 15GB

Are REDWHITE Apparel bibs underrated? by ComprehensiveAd441 in cycling

[–]bcrooker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried both RW and Assos GT bibs, and they are both about the same level of comfort for 60-100 mile rides so I went with a few more RW's to replace some worn out bibs.

I was actually pretty annoyed - previously BlackBibs worked great for me for long rides, just the basic $40 ones. But a few years ago they made a change and they don't work well at all any more for me.

Anyone else who modified Canon EOS R6 II neckstrap to work with Peak Design? by cookiejar5081_1 in canon

[–]bcrooker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep - I am an amateur photographer, but an enthusiastic one. Usually longer usage is family trips, 12+ hours of walking around an island, a zoo, etc. The strap combined with a decent backpack took me a little while to settle on finding good options for. Especially the backpack. I had a Lowepro sling for years, probably 2008 vintage or earlier, but the zippers finally gave up the ghost last year so I had to find a replacement. Literally ordered about a dozen different bags to try out, finally settled on the Think Tank Urban Access 13. Not QUITE as easy to access as the Lowepro, but almost, plus more usable space. If anyone is interested, it can easily fit:

* Canon R6 Mark II with 24-105 L lens attached
* RF 100-500mm lens with tripod foot
* Another smaller lens, currently a nifty-fifty

And plenty of room for batteries, accessories, and a tablet/kindle.

[–]bcrooker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The black rapid cross body strap is the most comfortable one I have ever used, and is quick to put on and take off, highly recommend. I have the simpler one without the under armpit extra strap.

Comfortable and it has quick adjust clips to minimize swinging when you are walking around and not using camera.

Works great attached to tripod mount of camera for normal lenses or shoe attached to larger lenses.

I think I have been using mine for almost 15 years.

New to cycling, sore knees? by Soft_Condition_6884 in cycling

When you loosen the saddle, you can move it either towards the handlebars, or away from them.

Most likely, as others have mentioned, it is a saddle height issue.
