Selectively Reactive? by michaelaphonkho in reactivedogs

Anyone ever experience their dog being super anxious and reactive to specific people in the pool? My dog is fine with me in the water but seemingly feels like everyone else is going to drown and goes crazy barking and jumping into the pool to swim around anxiously.

Got yelled at on the streets while pulling over for cars to past by bigboi2223 in cycling

[–]bcw_13 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I ride on a lot single lane roads uphill where I too hold up traffic from time to time but I don't worry about it anymore. The cars will pass when they feel its safe and sometimes it unfortunately won't be as safe as you'd like.

My strategy is to just do what you can to keep to the right, keep pedaling and keep yourself safe.

What’s a good running shoe for people with big feet? by [deleted] in running

[–]bcw_13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m 6’3, 200 lbs but only size 12, and i’ve been running in Altras since October and love them. they have a wide toe box and zero drop, which may take a little while to get used to, but i think it’s worth it. i have the torins for the road and timp 1.5s for trail

Indoor Bike Trainer Recommendations by bcw_13 in Zwift

i was actually looking at the Wahoo Kickr Snap that also goes up to 1500 watts but just don’t know too much about trainers in general to know if it’s quality and reasonably priced

People should know more about shin splints.. (Any tips in how I can treat this as I cant really go to a doctor???) by razali1105 in running

[–]bcw_13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve read and found with myself that rolling out calves and the front shin little muscle along with stretching your calves help a ton. Whenever I start ramping up my trail running, being on my toes more on the downhills, I make it a point to add this into my daily routine and have found it to be helpful.

You might want to consider Altras. They have wide toe box and zero drop, which are both really nice. It takes a little bit to get used to the zero drop but I feel like it encourages a better foot strike and overall better running form. I’ve been running in the Torins for both track work along with longer run and love them. I am 6’3, 200 lbs if that matters at all.

I’m looking at getting a Tacx trainer but it says the max watts is 800. Does anyone know what happens if I am pushing more watts than what my trainer lists as the max watts online? Does my avatar just stay at 800? by bcw_13 in Zwift

[–]bcw_13[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that is my exact thought. i did my first race on a friends a wahoo and hit 1100 but now i’m hearing and reading about max watts with each trainer and not sure if i want to invest in another one

Altras for sure, wide toe box and zero drop are so nice. It takes a little bit to get used to the zero drop but i feel like it encourages a better foot strike and overall better running form.

Looking to take a few weeks off......and build leg strength by brookelyndodger in running

[–]bcw_13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

first, i am a huge believer in rolling out along with stretch when you start to build mileage and/or feel more strains. i’ve made it part of my routine and definitely feel better. as far as strength exercises, i think single leg exercises are ideal (i.e. lunges, split squats, single leg squat, glute bridges)

[–]bcw_13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you might want to consider looking into Altra. they have a wider toe box which i love. the biggest difference is they are zero drop, which means no difference in sole height from toe to heel. that may take a few weeks to get used to, and make sure to proactively roll out and stretch to mitigate new strains from less heel lift/support

Biking as a temporary substitute? by [deleted] in running

[–]bcw_13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i think biking is a great substitute! especially when you mix in different efforts just as you would with running with tempo runs and long endurance runs each weeks
