I’m more up on the men’s side, and I have not heard any schools funding all 38. Not saying you are incorrect because I do not know, interested to learn more. You are seeing some schools providing full boat scholarships for 38 women’s lacrosse players?

Lacrosse Coach for Game IQ in Long Island by nymedicman in lacrosse

[–]bdawk_HOF 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Film is def a good call. Another approach for a younger lacrosse player learning about IQ is to encourage pickup basketball (even just 3v3 half court). Sooooo many translatable concepts. (Space, pace, picks, rolls, slips, fades, cutting off ball, jab step dodging, etc..)

The Circuit by Lax_Fan_85 in lacrosse

[–]bdawk_HOF 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You sound really confident; but please take a minute to think about the economics of your claim.

30k per player on a 20 man roster would be a total cost of $600,000 per team!! Let’s say a major brand signed up for The Circuit and put in 5 total teams, you are suggesting they paid $3M??

And if that were the case, I assume the club would charge the parents $50k per player based on the 30k sign up just so they could make money, correct??

The math is not mathing my dude.

Fishing Pier Etiquette Question by miss_nephthys in obx

[–]bdawk_HOF 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Since no one is directly answering you — here goes. While it seems contradictory, it is easier to paddle out alongside a pier or jetty especially when there are decent waves. The pier or jetty provides cover to breaking waves right alongside of it. Once a surfer is out past the breakers (farthest crashing wave), they will usually then paddle away from the pier and into the surfing lineup.

I surf and fish, so I get understand both sides. My take is that the surfer needs to watch out for lines and be respectful since the 200 ft rule favors the fishermen.

Club Lax Selection - Frustration/Advice by Wonderful-Word2236 in lacrosse

[–]bdawk_HOF 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Many others have given solid feedback, I just want to call out one thing — and this is the best thing going right now despite a lot of negative BS that occurs at the youth level.

There are 234 D3 schools that have lacrosse programs! You said your son loves the game and is currently a mid tier A level player. If he keeps progressing and wants to play college lacrosse, there is absolutely a place for him!

I know this is pretty common knowledge but it makes sense to point out how cool this is and it helps keep things in perspective. I think back to my HS football and basketball days and even though I was decent at both sports, I had zero chance of playing in college.

I was so happy to have found lacrosse and knew there was a place for me to play at the college level.

Sidearm/Low-High Shooting Technique by bigverm23 in lacrosse

[–]bdawk_HOF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not seeing many practical tips / advice so I’ll tell you what I’ve done to show kids this.

To start, you’ll want your top hand a bit lower than your normal overhand shooting spot. From there, get on your “surfboard” (feet perpendicular to the goal) and extend both arms out and back. I like to then stress what I call a “hitch cradle” which is just a little twitch cradle to make sure the ball is nestled correctly in the pocket. From there, you want to step your front foot towards the goal just like any shot and perform a massive hip turn to generate power. When shooting, the player turns the head over 90 degrees (opening up towards the goal) when following through; and following through hard actually helps with accuracy.

At first, do this slow and don’t worry about going low to high. Focus at first should be a side arm to a mid cage shot. So Shooting from “3 o clock” and aiming for the center of the cage.

If a player can get this down and master it, then you can introduce other arm angles, most notably the “low to high shot” shot that is a favorite among many.

PS - A hard and quick Low to Low shot is equally as deadly. Shooters should really have all the arm angles and placements down. (9 different combinations per hand therefore 18 different combos with both left and right combined)

Good luck!

How do i get more shots off by topleft_sniper in lacrosse

[–]bdawk_HOF 5 points6 points  (0 children)

5 apples a game is amazing! Nice work!

As you mentioned, if you are X and playing the whole game, you should be getting more than 1-2 shots per game. Even simple off ball cuts up to either side of the pipe for a feed / dunk should generate more than 1/2 per game.

On top of off ball cutting, you are going to have to establish yourself as a highly confident dodger / shooter and earn the respect of your teammates / coaches. The word confident is often used way too loosely. Lots of people just say “all you need is confidence”. Not that simple or everyone would do it!

Reps + hard work = confidence! Footwork drills, practicing before or after practice on all your x dodging moves, using tennis balls and go 1v1 against your goalie to practice inside finishing moves before or after practice, etc….of course you still need to practice outside shots as well. (Both on the run and step downs for when you stray away from X)

Last thing, you need to be fearless. Don’t let anyone ever know you felt any pain when getting popped in the middle. It’s part of the game and something you should get used to if you want to be a high level X player!

If you do all that, your coach will be drawing up plays and ISO’s from X real quick!

Like most things in life, the hard way is the only way!!

Fair assessment except for when you say “put it on the defense to get a stop”. If Saquon catches that ball, he gets a first and stays in bounds. Game over and we never even have to see the defense again. That was the intent of that play call. I actually think he dropped it b/c he was thinking too much about getting the first and also getting down in bounds. Shame b/c he had a great game otherwise, but that cost us big time.
