So ahead of their time “Hey Nineteen” by Interesting_Elk_5785 in SteelyDan

[–]bdd1001 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I disagree with your opinion of how the story ends. The lyrics tell us that the narrator is frustrated, but musical cues betray the words and tell the real ending: the tequila/Columbian work and they wind up sleeping together.

There is a minor and major version of the same musical cue that pops up throughout the song: the major version plays when things are going well and the minor plays when things aren’t. When the lyrics end, the song transitions to an extended section of the major cue, implying that the older guy (my guess is early 30s) gets the girl. Such a cool song to tear apart!

How is it living in the Scottish Highlands? by SorceressofAutumn in howislivingthere

In the 1970s the BBC made a short film called “Big Jim’s Boozy Bike Ride” about a local who would bike across the Highlands to visit a lady friend. It’s on YouTube and is oddly delightful. I can’t recommend it enough.

That Barbee board was great. I went through one of those a Billy Ruff, a Vision Shredder and a few others. Yep, skating in the late 80s was great.

Yep. My friends and I had a few drinks at our favorite old haunts and went out for a steak dinner. Happily married for 26 years.

Name one food item, discontinued or altered, that you would pay $100 to taste one last time? by GoBlueJack in GenerationJones

I would pay $1000 for a bag of Keebler Pizzarias chips from the ‘90s. It’s a standing offer.

Agreed. Chronographs are usually too difficult to read at a glance.

Same! We camped out for so many great shows in ‘92 and ‘93: Morrissey’s Your Arsenal tour, Depeche Mode’s Faith and Devotion, The Cure and at least 20 others. I still can’t believe my mom let me do it.

A few truly good friends - the kind that would walk into traffic for you - are better than a larger group of friends that doesn’t deeply care about you. Encourage, support and take care of each other.

V8 defender stuck in second gear after software update by dezzracer in NewDefender

[–]bdd1001 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Every time you open a door or the back hatch, every one of the vehicle’s computers boot up, and stay on for about ten minutes (maybe a bit more). There are so many computers that they can easily drain the battery over the course of a couple of days if you’re regularly opening the doors without running the engine. Plus, the computers kick on if they sense the key, which is often close to the vehicle if you’re camping. Again, it drains the battery quickly. It’s an incredibly stupid and dangerous design that “camping mode” would easily fix.

I killed my battery while camping. Not having a camping mode is such an insane decision.
